XLibre: The New Xorg Fork

https://github.com/X11Libre/xserver

Looks like Xorg enjoyers like myself can breathe a sigh -- the legacy display server has been hard forked as XLibre now by the 2024 top commit contributor to the project.

Artix GNU/Linux will be packaging this on their official repositories soon, although I know Devuan's maintainers will say this is of no interest to them, because it doesn't have anything to do with Systemd (regardless of their manpower).

So, who wants to bet Debian will show any interest in this (not all of their developers like Wayland)? In the near future, giving the user the choice between Wayland and Xorg XLibre doesn't sound all that bad to me...

Also, for those who were wondering, yes, they do have a Code of Conduct.

Re: XLibre: The New Xorg Fork

Lets hope some talented programmers in debian take this up. I foresee breakage but that is good, what can be broken can usually be fixed, stupid usually cant be fixed though.

I have my doubts on that Debian seems to have gone full on in on the corporate control of GNU/Linux. All their actions over the last decade or so prove this including the reason this project exists. I would be happy to be wrong in this but all signs point to it being true.

Together we'll make X great again!

So long as this gets fixed, OK.

Re: XLibre: The New Xorg Fork

The only way I could see Debian using this is for support of legacy hardware etc.

I have been ditching systemd to get the RH out of my life and now I am currently working on debuntuing my life thanks to their uutils direction I just found out about.

Eventually after IBM/RH, Canonical, and Suse complete the entire corporate takeover of Linux its just going to be all of us sitting around here with Stallman beards having a good time.

Good find! Sounds like they want to stop the bleeding from (yet another) bone-headed decision! They sure are slow learners in that camp . . .
