should I wait until Genuen is updating to "excalibur"
or should I already
point the repositories to the forthcoming stable release based on Devuan 6.0 Excalibur, the sources.list file should look as follows:
deb http://packages.genuen.org/merged excalibur main
deb-src http://packages.genuen.org/merged excalibur main
deb http://packages.genuen.org/merged excalibur-updates main
deb-src http://packages.genuen.org/merged excalibur-updates main
deb http://packages.genuen.org/merged excalibur-security main
deb-src http://packages.genuen.org/merged excalibur-security main
in order to get an update?
AFAIK until now is is work in progress and not all packages are already updated,
in order not to get a mixed distribution.
I also installed
hplip-gui
and now I can see the package
HPLIP Toolbox
in my package starter
So everything is ok.
I checked again and in firefox
http://localhost:631/
there are my printers installed. I tried twice to install, so there are 2 printers.
but in librewolf, which I installed
in http://localhost:631/
there is nothing visible because of the security settings of librewolf.
thanks aitor,
I did what you suggested
apt-get install eudev libeudev1
and after rebooting, which seems always necessary after installing something to show up,
hplip was deleted.
I installed hplip new
after rebooting I checked in
http://localhost:631/
but there were no printers installed.
I could not find the HP package which I used before to install a printer.
but only the "printer" app in my package starter (I don´t know if that is the right word)
but printing is now working. that´s the most important.
thanks very much
I tried to download the package libusb from the Trisquel Aramo repository
and installed it.
There appear new problems.
I need to install also "eudev" and "eudev-dbgsym"
But trying to install them I got those messages:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
eudev-dbgsym: depends on eudev (= 3.2.12-4+deb12u1) but 3.2.12-4+deb12u1gnuinos5u1 should be installed
E: Problems cannot be corrected, you have held back broken packages.
One problem after the other.
To get from there is according to my opinion only if some develover from Gnuinos deals with this problem.
or to wait for the next release in hoping that this problem will be solved.
when starting my laptop there appear several messages in uploading Gnuinos.
One message is about "udev"
but I can´t read the whole sentence because it dissapears quickly.
I checked on the web and found that "udev" ist part of "libusb"
This means we found the culprit.
libusb is the cause.
There is also another message about "ahavi"...
I don´t know if that is connected with libusb.
that´s for your info.
This means I need a new file: "libusb" as I wrote in the last mail
thanks for help
yes, I tried again
@gfp, have you tried uninstall "ipp-usb" and then initialize the procedure as shared by fsmithred?
even though I installed new printers no printing.
How can I download or get the "libusb" file, because it seems there is a bug in this file in Gnuinos.
May be I would be able to get it from the repository of Trisquel or Devuan.
How can I do that?
thanks for help
I tried as fsmithred said to let hplip detect a USB printer.
after entering all the data it did not take it, but the programme shut down and I couldn´t open it anymore.
I had to restart the system.
In localhost I tried to do the same and it was possible to add a new printer.
I entered in hplip my printer and saved everything.
then I tried to print and there came up a message:
Unable to initialize USB access via libusb, libusb error -99 (Other error)
That seems the be the problem.
I checked In Synaptic that libusb is installed. But there are many other libusb packages.
username:
Domain: WORKGROUP
password
How can I set up a new WORKGROUP and delete this one because I can´t log in?
system-config-printer was already installed.
cups-browsed was already installed
after printing
I am getting this message:
Execution in progress - waiting for the printer to become available.
What does that mean after printer is installed?
How can I make the printer available?
I found my printer usb address in

So at the moment yet unsolved. No printing.
Hi aitor,
I downloaded
icecat-l10n-de_128.14.0-1+6genuen1_all.deb
and during installing it asked me which version of 101 versions.
I pointed to
icecat-l10n-de
after installation it says:
icecat-l10n-de (102.11.0-1)
but that is the old version, isn`t it?
where is my mistake?
Why are you using a version of Icecat that is so old? That version of Icecat is over two years old.
how did you find out that is so old?
In my Gnuinos /free software there exists only that icecat version, librewolf does not exist.
there is also chromium.
once there was also a hint that I have to use bluetooth for some managers, I forgot which manager it was.
I don´t use bluetooth.
there appears also a question of my firewall settings.
open port for networkservices like mdns and slp
but I didn´t set up a firewall.
I have no proxy enabled.
thanks for your help
I had already hplip installed. I installed also hplip-gui
but running hplip-gui says: not installed ?????
If opening the network
it asks me for authentification
username:
Domain: WORKGROUP
password
I don´t remember to set that up.
Entering my personal password is not accepted.
It says: password wrong.
????
Now I have more options available but until now nothing helps.
If I add a new printer I have got several options:
I don´t know which one to choose
1. Generic CUPS-BRF
2. provide address
3. network printer:
a. find one it asks me for Host: I don´t know what to enter. My username or my laptop name...
b. Windows-printer via SAMBA
c. Internet -Printing-Protokoll (https)
d. AppSocket/HP JetDirect
e. LPD/LPR-Host or printer
f. Internet-Printing-Protokoll (ipp)
g. Internet Printing Protocol (ipps)
my printer is connected via usb to a usb-hub with 4 usb connections and through this to the laptop
running HPLIP Toolbox does not help. Running hp-setup : error: no devices found on bus:usb
I have no clue at the moment
thanks
gfp
Now I copied it here
Hi,
Search on printer name and model cups PPD debian get the .PPD file
I can not find my printer on the HP website. It is too old. Also on other websites I can´t find the PPD file.
This is my printer:
HP Officejet J4580 All-in-One
In an earlier Gnuinos installation 2 years ago my printer and scanner was immeadeatly found.
But now a big problem.
my printer can´t be detected with looking for a printer or looking for a scanner.
but with lsusb it is found:

Sorry I posted my answer on the wrong question
it is on the
:mirrors for gnuinos
Go to about:addons in your firefox browser URL entry bar search on uBlock Origin then use the Add to Firefox button to add it, no clue on the icecat I have never used it.
this does not work because there is no possibility to add some add-ons.
but going to : plugins
there is an option to get extensions via: gnuzilla.gnu.org
oping that there is ublockorigin
but the installation failes, its corrupt.
Also from the firefox website it is corrupt and there is a possibility to download firefox with ublockorigin which I don´t want.
I am using icecat extended support release 102.11.0esr (64-bit) GNU IceCat gnu-1.0
sorry I posted it on the wrong topic, but I deleted my message.
Hi,
still it is strange that in my settings /network connections
the wired connection folder says: never connected
but the bridge virbr0 says connected.
What that means I don´t know.
but it works, that´s the most important
Hi,
thanks very much.
Now it is working. I can connect to the internet.
After installing Gnuinos the second part your interfaces file
# The first card in the system added for devuan method of networking
auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
was completely missing.
I added that and now its working.
thanks for your help

Hi,
I would like to add to Gnuinos
ublockorigin to my icecat/firefox browser.
There is one available but the file is corrupt and can´t be installed.
Is there a way to install ublockorigin?
thanks
