@brocashelm
I can't send a private message to you... You might want to know the controversial app that i can't name is on the DUR. The dear admin will not let me link to it. I didn't know this was a christian forum. use the search here https://gitea.com/DUR

I don't know why a link to a git repo got nuked. I looked at it, but I couldn't figure out what to do with it. Are there instructions somewhere?

Instead of the continual comments about the board and admin - indicating some ongoing dissatisfaction, I suggest that a member of the Devuan team request a forum at LQ and once established, let the users that prefer either venue make their choices. Debian has had this for years and, overwhelmingly most users go to FDN, but a handful go there - so there's nothing harmful about it.

What or who is LQ and FDN? Even my favourite search engine doesn't turn up anything useful, only clearly unrelated meanings...

because it's a naughty package.
first install easydeb https://gitea.com/easydeb/easydeb/relea … 4d_all.deb
git clone the DUR repo you want, go inside, then run "easydeb -s" (-s installs build dependencies). It will build the package, install it the normal way.

Oh cynwulf . . . Same tactics trying to foment rebellion that you used @debian years ago. Please take it elsewhere. I would not want to do it but maybe it's time to lock this chaotic thread as it has gone completely off the rails. Apologies to exponentialmatrix for behavior of external agitators . . .

Cool, it worked! (on excalibur) I had to look inside the DEBBUILD file to see what the dependencies were so I could install them first as root. My user is not in the sudo group. I couldn't find an option for easydeb to print the deps list. Did I miss that, or it doesn't exist?
Also, I found an old version of hot-babe from medibuntu on my hard drive. I installed that on chimaera and there are a couple of differences. The buntu version has a nudity warning in a debconf dialog so you can cancel the install if you think you might be offended; that's missing in the DUR build. And buntu puts it in the Accessories menu instead of the Games menu. Other than that, they seem to be the same. I might need to compile a kernel to get a more thorough test.

That was the same experience I had with regards to the Medibuntu version, except using Daedalus (only had to chase down one obscure dependency). It's also using GTK2, whereas I can see that this reupload (which I did catch earlier, Exponentialmatrix, thank you) is now using GTK3.

LinuxQuestions.org, Forums.Debian.Net.
LQ is fine, though I haven't been there in a while. For some distros (most notably Slackware), it's their primary forum.

Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action. Four times is Official GNOME Policy.

If you are unregistered, FDN locks you out of reading an entire thread after the third post. They are also Anubised and require JavaScript enabled to access the forums. Their search system has a really long wait time between searches, and everything is completely unorganized.

Most of that is a recent development too, FDN went downhill pretty steeply after the "official" admin takeover.
To be fair much of the aggravation is due to anti-ai defences, but if the result is that obnoxious for humans you're doing something very wrong.

You mean build dependencies? just running easydeb (no -s flag) will throw an error with the exact command you need to launch as root. If you are using doas, the root helper can be configured in /etc/easydeb.conf at the end of the file (it uses internally a whitelist of allowed helpers).
I can add warnings. I don't think that's a very good system monitor, it's better in the games category.
The point was, Debian removed it and it is censored left and right. with easydeb, you can go around all that crap. And it's a lot more convenient then building it all your self (now i'll add the warnings and the entire planet can benefit). Also, it's ultra light and decentralized, that's important for distributing.

I used to use Arch and AUR, but now I've been using Devuan on all my machines for some years. So I find Easydeb and DUR really great! So far in my testing it works nicely.
