Are there any new Devuan derivatives announced since last year?
Also, and more importantly - is there a one-liner description of what's the focus or speciality of each of these distros? Would be nice to see more than just a bunch of names.

@golinux: Ok, fair enough in principle, but some of those descriptions are vague to the point of near-uselessness. For example:
Refracta is a GNU/Linux distribution built with home users in mind. It provides a simple layout that will be comfortable for the majority of users.
home users also run home servers, so... not sure how they differ from non-home users. Plus, what does it mean, to build a distro with X people in mind? Do you write odes to these people in script comments? And "providing a simple layout" - what's a "layout" anyway? And does that mean it doesn't provide complex layouts? And doesn't Devuan itself "provide simple layouts"? ... None of this tells me what Refracta has or drops relative to Devuan. Maybe just different artwork, Desktop environment settings and icon arrangement?
Gnuinos is a libre spin of Devuan GNU/Linux using the Openbox window manager.
But Devuan has OpenBox, so what's the spin? That OpenBox is on the installation media rather than other DEs?
Star is a minimal distro, with a small selection of apps
Then how can it be based on Devuan, which has Debian's huge selection of apps? Or again, maybe it's a bootable image with some preinstalled apps?
etc.

Refracta was around long before Devuan and based on Debian. The live install media is for desktop as are many of the derivatives. Again . . . if you would like to update the descriptions of those derivatives (which were mostly written by the creators), knock yourself out and submit them on our git or to forum staff.

@ einpoklum
These are ready made versions of Devuan - live/installable - saves people having to decide what to install for themselves from the vast collection of programs available - & very quick to install from the live media, usually.
I used to install from Debian CDs/DVD, until I found suitable live/installable media - now I nearly always use live distros to install from.
(To see what they look like, just go to their home pages.)

And why haven't they included DevuanDog in that list of derivative systems? DevuanDog was a nice project, unfortunately it was discontinued.

Has anyone taken a look at Expirion Linux - there is a Devuan based Linux there under the "Files" tab

Is it related to that free credit scam known as expirion?
If so, wait for someone trustworthy here to say its legit if you have sense.

No it is spelt differently the one you mention is spelt Experion - The Expirion Linux is legitimate and listed on the Waiting List on DistroWatch - https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=links#new

Linuxman, you do know I was trollfacing you right?
I am very well aware that you didn't mean that credit card company. This is a linux forum.

linwirepa . . . thank you for creating a new Devuan spin and posting it here. That being said . . . I find the Debian logo in the banner of your website inappropriate in this context. It could be confusing for some and who knows what Debian would do if they saw that association with Devuan using their logo!!

simple golinux, as to what debian would do, probably they would do some sort of cease and desist action.
If I had to guess...
But yeah, it is inappropriate.
Although, I have seen that wallpaper in devuan before... so idk. Unless I am wrong in which case correct me.

I am pleased to announce that my respin LinWiRepa with devuan 5 and xfce is available on the web:
You can download it and try it whenever you want. It is available to everyone.
I ask for your help to spread it and to make grow the devuan community in spanish, thanks to all of you for your collaboration.
Hello. Please, fix your web site, because when I try to enter your website, the firefox browser says that secure access is not possible. The browser prompts you to go to a website that uses the http protocol. Which is not good from a security point of view

Peppermint OS
Devuan based option.
https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distr … peppermint
As I was unable to get system suspend to work with Daedalus (either with kde or xfce) despite several re-installations and it having worked under Chimaera I looked around and found that Peppermint is a distro which is based on either Debian or Devuan - your choice at installation. This seems a relatively recent development of Peppermint which was originally based on Ubuntu. This is called the 2023-07-01 version, which is obvioulsy its date.
It was a fairly smooth installation with a minimal set of packages, not even a browser, which suits me so I can choose things myself, but not beginner friendly. On the first try it stuffed everything except swap into a single partition despite my defining separate root and home, but I wiped and re-installed and realised I'd missed a step the first time, one that was easy to miss.
It was also a bit annoying that it does not allow you to set up a root account during installation, expecting you to do the "sudo says" nonsense. I set it up post installation. I have never understood the point of the sudo method as it has little security and is a real nuisance if you need a long admin session, like I have been setting up my 15 disk partitions and other stuff. I suppose it is to remind you that you are doing something at admin level, but my root has a red bash prompt for that.

@Camtaf . . . If you tell me which ones need attention, I can have a look and move them to an appropriate place. That will need to be done anyway for the WWW update when Excalibur is released. Thanks for your help!

The ones I know of are MIYO & Star, I believe.

Perhaps just a note after their entries that they are no longer maintained?
MIYO and Star were a couple of the first to adopt Devuan, so they have some historical significance as they were there at the beginning of this amazing experience.
MIYO especially has meaning for a lot of folks, his thread in this section has over 380,000 views.
On a personal note, all of my projects from 2017-2025 have their start as re-spins of Miyolinux, I still have a copy of the original iso that really blew me away and set me to thinking even more outside the (Open) box. The philosophy of Make It Your Own still guides me to this day and I strive to make it easy for folks to do just that every time I sit down in front of the keyboard.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vuu-do/ New Vuu-do isos uploaded April 2025!
Vuu-do GNU/Linux, minimal Devuan-based Openbox and Mate systems to build on. Also a max version for OB.
Devuan 5 mate-mini iso, pure Devuan, 100% no-vuu-do. Devuan 6 version also available for testing.
