I have tried (or should I say "I had tried"; I work so slowly that it's Past Perfect Tense, really) a few Devuan images, but only one Devuan derivative I managed to install in a Virtual Machine.
Here:
http://www.croatiafidelis.hr/foss/cap/c … evuan/#No5
(I know it's not much, but I'm fresh --and slow-- also at Virtual Machines)
I have very high security standards though. I deploy grsecurity-hardened in my Gentoo (which is actually cloned from my Air-Gapped master system).
I look forward to making a similar scenario with Devuan... It's the only acceptable way for me for a day-to-day used system...
And surely, Air-Gap installing and hardening could make it in the order of magnitude of manifold increase of time and work, maybe even for a programmer.... And yet, my top contributions in FOSS GNU/Linux (mostly in Gentoo) have so far been, (at times) good testing...
I can expand on the Air-Gapping and also on cloning (what a great security feature: you install from PGP-signed local repository in Air-Gap, and clone that system into same MBO --that is the condition, also compatible HDDs, similar peripherals-- another system for only online! ...
((
"I can expand on the Air-Gapping"... I meant in another topic, I forgot that I was replying to a topic on Devuan-based distros... Moderators, feel free to split this topic away from:
Devuan Derivatives
https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=9
))
I've been following Devuan since soon after its inception, and am very glad it's growing and getting appreciation around the world!

To get expert install in gnuinos, select Install, hit TAB and add priority=low to the boot command. Then ENTER. (Looks like it works ok, I aborted early.)

where to submit derivative-derivatives? there are at least a couple derivatives based on refracta already-- they may not be wholly unique (mine isnt) but they do have features out-of-the-box, some of which are worthy of note.
the best measure of success for devuan as a fork is if it has enough derivatives based on it, like debian had. i dont know how many ubuntu derivatives there are out there, but ubuntu was certainly a huge step forward (for a while) in terms of promoting debian. i may have never used debian if not for ubuntu (circa 2008 i mean.)

I think figos is worth listing. It's the only distro I know that comes in a multi-boot iso. Maybe I've been spending too much time inside the box, but that just blows my mind.
Offline
[MIYO] Nice basic distro that is basically just internet access out of the box, uses Openbox, you get to add the programs that you want.
[Refracta] Good lightweight desktop experience, uses xfce, has tools to create your own personal version. Some might have a problem with wifi as some (supplied) firmware may be needed to be installed before you can connect to the internet.
Edit: Installed Miyo to a pendrive, & Refracta to a laptop.

That does sound useful, do you have a link to the homepage of figos?
Cheers
I don't think there's a home page at this point. I pinged figosdev to see if we can get a definitive answer to this question, but meanwhile, here's a short discussion about it with a link to the script that is used to make the iso:

Here's the link to figos. It hasn't been posted in the list because there is not one mention of Devuan on that page and Puppy/Refracta seems a little too far afield.

Quote from the author of figos:
you can always get the latest script (because fig os was originally meant to be something you put together yourself-- and customized if you wanted-- after all, its an automated process but you can tweak it if you like) at http://unofficialdistros.freeforums.org … tc-f4.html

I just updated the derivatives list. Apologies for neglecting it for so long.. The list on the website should now be in sync with the one here. Thanks for your patience.

Didn't notice until now, good-life-Linux is sharing the Sourceforge link with Crowz in the List of Devuan Derivatives.

This just literally made what was a darned frustrating day (chasing a bug I made myself somehow), into me being a happy camper, thanks Golinux!!
Okay, guess I better get back to the drawing board since I made the list and all.

Any news for GNuinos? Seems to be dormant.

Hi pekman,
First of all, thanks for your interest taken in Gnuinos. I'm the author of this distribution, and now i'm working on some applications in gtk. One of them is a new GUI for the backend of simple-netaid. Here you are the code:
https://git.devuan.org/aitor_czr/simple … ree/master
and here you are a video, comparing the behaviour of the status icon with the status icon of the original GUI (written in freepascall):
http://gnuinos.org/simple-netaid-gtk_2.mpg
The active wifis will be shown at real time in the future, as you can see in the following video:
http://gnuinos.org/simple-netaid-gtk.mpg
But, at the time being, there will be a "refresh" button for that, because i have to fix a Segmentation fault.
Another project is a new menu for openbox (also in Gtk), dynamic and multilingual. Here you are a video:
http://gnuinos.org/openbox-menu1.mpg
This menu will have also a static header (still not included), containing items like "gmrun", "terminal", "web-browser", etc... and a static footer, containig as a final item the "Exit" option (at the same developed in gtk, i.e. a new openbox-logout).
I'll also work on a device-manager-gui, for umout/eject, mount/open... external devices.
Shortly i'll start learning "amprolla", developed by Nextime. Gnuinos will use amprolla, vdev, simple-netaid and linux-libre (and OpenRC, maybe). So, the release of Gnuinos will take some time
Cheers,
Aitor.

Sounds exactly like obmenu-generator, check out Miyolinux, it already uses it and it's what i'm using in Vuu-do openbox.

Hi @aitor... Thanks for explanation. Best news.
I recommend Runit (another Openrc), is very best... See Runit in action in Void Linux. Is very impressive.

Use what suits you, that's what choice is about.
Personally, I don't want anything other than to get straight online with my wifi, a GUI, mp3 player, & a browser, even if it is only Dillo.
Quite a few experienced Linux users are of the same opinion, they want to start with a minimal usable system, & just add the programs that they want.
Having that option as a live distro just makes life so much easier.
If you want a full desktop environment with everything in it, just go for it & fill up your disk.

I think you're missing the end-purpose of these spins/derivatives/distros. I can only speak for myself (yes, I saw your review on SourceForge, and I'm sorry that Miyo didn't perform as you wished), so let me briefly explain the reasoning behind MiyoLinux. As the description on SourceForge says, "MiyoLinux is a minimal and base system"; therefore, one should know that it doesn't "provide" much out of the box...and that's its sole purpose. The goal was to feature Devuan...not MiyoLinux...to give users a base system to build upon.
While many experienced users can certainly create their own Openbox DE from a Devuan netinstall, there are many users who are still learning. Spins like MiyoLinux (and others) allow these users to learn, explore, and grow in their knowledge...and as FOSSuser said, there are also experienced users who want to be able to quickly install a base system. Spins like these can be installed in just a matter of a few minutes...thanks to fsmithred's work on the Refracta tools.
I had a few "tools" that I could have included in MiyoLinux, but I chose not to for two reasons...
1. The goal was to bring more attention to Devuan...not MiyoLinux.
2. This is my own philosophy, so please take it as such. While "tools" are neat to use and see, they aren't really used that often. Plus, they negate a person learning and delving into figuring out how to do things.
In my attempt to shine the spotlight on Devuan, I also chose to use only the Devuan repositories...again...the spotlight was Devuan...not MiyoLinux.
While these spins/derivatives/distros may not provide everything for everybody, they serve a purpose...it just may be that they don't serve the purpose that a user needs...and that's okay. There are other users who are served by their purpose(s). If a distro doesn't suit a user's purpose, there are others that will.
Plus, I think it says a lot that Devuan lists them on their website.
It was all about Devuan in my case friend...not MiyoLinux.
I have been Devuanated, and my practice in the art of Devuanism shall continue until my Devuanization is complete. Until then, I will strive to continue in my understanding of Devuanchology, Devuanprocity, and Devuanivity.
Veni, vidi, vici vdevuaned. I came, I saw, I Devuaned.

i think so then that miyolinux must work directly in devuan and not divert the work.. its more productive as Debian does with derivatives projects
