It's more likely to be 'country' related - we (in the UK) have to change from American, quite often, as all the symbols are in the wrong place ( wink ).

setxkbmap <yourcountrycode>

(As in setxkbmap uk)

#202 Re: Devuan Derivatives » New Refracta ISOs » 2023-09-07 08:38:49

Ah, don't get me wrong, in no way am I criticizing your distro....... I was just putting forward alternatives for your little netbook..... smile

It would be nice to see a distro using LXQT though.... wink

(P.S. Have downloaded EEE-lxqt & no-dbus to take a look.)

#203 Re: Devuan Derivatives » New Refracta ISOs » 2023-09-06 16:08:00

Maybe try using JWM or IceWM instead of a 'desktop', both are quite lightweight in use, but look like a desktop.... wink

#204 Re: Devuan » Question for devs... Debian 12 can be installed without systemd » 2023-09-06 09:30:58

Devuan is the original 'Debian', the developers were part of the Debian community, until the debacle of systemd - I used to run AntiX, but decided to change over to Devuan, as they were certain to not add systemd, & so here I am today..... smile

#205 Re: Devuan » Question for devs... Debian 12 can be installed without systemd » 2023-09-05 16:48:35

AntiX & MX Linux developers have been supplying Debian systemd free distros since the original debacle. smile

I did hint that they might like to use Devuan instead, but they stuck with Debian, so, yes, it can be done. wink

#206 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] Install from foreign sources » 2023-09-05 08:53:28

I'd wait - if your distro includes it, fine, otherwise...... wink

#207 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] No boot device. Press any key to reboot machine » 2023-08-25 13:06:36

Can't remember for sure, but one of the installations I did needed to be connected to the internet for the grub files to download & be installed - it may have been this one, but wouldn't harm trying.

#208 Re: Devuan » Can anyone fill me in on why and how exactly systemd took over Linux? » 2023-08-22 18:47:55

Commercial companies want to own Linux, so far we have been able to keep going, & reject them, but for how long we can, I don't know, so I keep my hand in with the BSDs just in case... big_smile

#209 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release » 2023-08-22 09:00:34

Excellent news!

However, Sourceforge is showing 2x fb downloads, & one ob, but no jwm.....

...found it under the Download Button.... wink

#210 Re: ARM Builds » Videos don't play; seat, alsactl, ppdev, parport_pc, crda, hdmi issues » 2023-08-22 08:51:55

If everything works in FF, then it is down to Librewolf developers to catch up - this sort of thing often happens with video down loader software.

#211 Re: Devuan » Can anyone fill me in on why and how exactly systemd took over Linux? » 2023-08-22 08:39:50

RedHat wanted to make money out of support contracts.

Systemd was to be the Linux equivalent of MS Windows Registry - a complex all in one place for configuration - which most people wouldn't understand - so therefore enabling them to sell support contracts to businesses.

#212 Re: News & Announcements » The Register's OS desk writes about Devuan Daedalus » 2023-08-22 08:31:58

He missed the point that Debian forced its followers into using systemd, the reason Devuan came about, because they didn't give a choice - & it wasn't until later that they capitulated, by which time they had lost a considerable amount of users & developers to Devuan - & we have no reason to return to Debian.

#213 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » [SOLVED] How to hide Firefox titlebar » 2023-08-18 16:37:17

It should disappear if you press the F11 key - press again to get it back.

#214 Re: Off-topic » make desktop looks like windows 11 » 2023-08-17 17:00:28

I see, but you do know that there are lots of different looking desktop environments available, just a quick apt-get install away..... wink

Then you can configure most to your own idea of perfection..... big_smile

So, welcome to freedom for you & your computer... smile

#215 Re: Off-topic » make desktop looks like windows 11 » 2023-08-17 08:36:42

I have to ask - why do you want it to look like MS Windows?

Lots of people seem to think that if they make it look the same, it will act the same.......wrong! big_smile

#216 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] Deleted top window bar » 2023-08-16 08:21:25

Was this on XFCE, the default desktop environment?

(If not, you should have said which environment you were using!) wink

#218 Re: Installation » Devuan 5.0 netinstall failed [loading boot loader] » 2023-08-16 08:11:12

Connected to the internet, or not, if not it may not install grub, I found this on one Devuan based distro that I was using - (might be worth trying).

(Probably not related but, if using GPT partitioning, I found out that you need a small (4MB) partition for the bios/boot.)

Just a couple of my thoughts. smile

#219 Re: News & Announcements » Daedalus is stable » 2023-08-15 17:18:11

Downloaded this afternoon - many thanks to the team for all your hard work.....

#220 Re: Installation » Newer hardware, don't install Chimaera, install Daedalus. » 2023-08-10 09:11:07

Always best to use slightly older tech than the latest with Linux/BSD as drivers have to be reverse engineered, & this can take some months. smile

#221 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Browser for netbook running Devuan » 2023-07-30 09:41:04

I sometimes run Dillo, but it doesn't work on all websites.

When I had a netbook, I'd give it a 2GB swap partition in addition to its 2GB ram, because it let me use FF at a reasonable speed, not so slow as to drive me nuts waiting. wink

#222 Re: Off-topic » Is systemd still bad in 2023? » 2023-07-30 09:35:53

Waste of time asking that here!!! big_smile

We are here because we want nothing to do with systemd - Debian's biggest mistake was to try & force it onto its users, that's why Devuan exists. wink

#223 Re: Installation » Strange netinstall.iso behaviour » 2023-07-29 09:43:56

As I said earlier, if he selects manual partitioning he should be able to do that; or change the whole layout completely. wink

#224 Re: Installation » Strange netinstall.iso behaviour » 2023-07-28 14:00:34

Partition your disk manually, seems to be an option, so I'd take a look at that.

#225 Re: Installation » Strange netinstall.iso behaviour » 2023-07-28 08:32:05

I've not used a net install, so can't say, but, I usually use one pendrive for the install media, & a separate pendrive to install it to, just like I do when installing to internal disks. wink

Could it be the fact that you are trying to install it to the same pendrive as you are booting from(?), I've never tried to do that.
