#1376 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Wicd in Chimaera (It's not, but...) » 2021-08-23 04:46:29

PLEASE keep this thread focused on the possibility of running wicd in Chimaera.  Does it  work for you?  What issues if any?  Is it secure? Report your experiences here.

#1377 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Wicd in Chimaera (It's not, but...) » 2021-08-22 23:16:45

That answer is non -responsive. This thread is about wicd in Chimaera not about using Debian repositories directly which btw is not a good idea but then you get to keep all the pieces.  big_smile  Please keep on-topic going forward as being able to use wicd safely will be important to many upgrading to Chimaera.

#1378 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] Security question about Devuan 4 in its current state » 2021-08-22 15:17:00

Debian testing is now "Bookworm" which will be the base for Devuan 5 "Daedalus".

Devuan 4 "Chimaera" is based on Debian "Bullseye" which is now stable.

Note that if you use "testing" in your sources.list, you will find yourself upgraded to "Bookworm"/"Daedalus" which is basically Ceres at this point.

And one more question. Why are "non-free" repositories initially connected? Are there only "free" branch repositories?

That is so users can actually install Devuan. You can avoid non-free firmware by following this advice in the Install Guide:

If you would like to select an alternate bootloader (lilo) or exclude non-free firmware, you must choose "Expert install" under Advanced options.

Dear developers! How can you explain the fact that your distribution has a Systemd folder (/etc/systemd)? What is it for if by default Devuan comes without Systemd?

Welcome to the forum.
Your question is answered in this sticky post:
Why are systemd files present in Devuan?

Begs the question - let's say Bercot finishes the work in the next year, and s6 really does turn into the "ideal service manager". What then for Devuan? Start offering it as an alternative init? Making it the default init would seem the appropriate response if it does all that he claims it will.

Seems you know exactly what the problem is so feel free to write a patch(s) that season the soup exactly as you like and submit it upstream.  I think this thread has run its course.  Continuing to argue your points here is a fruitless endeavor.

#1383 Re: Installation » My chimaera install issues #2: Can't abort LXQt WM choice » 2021-08-01 21:45:05

If you go to a smorgasbord and eat everything offered, indigestion and an "interesting" night are likely to follow.  A distro shouldn't be required to nanny users lacking reasonable self-control and the foreseeable consequences of over-indulging.

#1384 Re: Installation » My chimaera install issues #2: Can't abort LXQt WM choice » 2021-08-01 19:43:08

That would depend on the definition of "reasonable person".  Installing multiple desktops with a distribution that strives for simplicity and doing one thing and doing it well seems like a user/distro mismatch to me.

#1385 Re: Off-topic » [SOLVED] New kernel adoption policy in Debian » 2021-07-26 18:25:20

Isn't that a question for Debian not for Devuan?  Other than a few systemd related packages, Devuan follows Debian repos.

#1386 Re: Installation » My Chimaera install issues #1: Forced manual choice of LXQt WM » 2021-07-25 05:56:12

IIUC, Devuan is requesting feedback about issues with the packages that Devuan has forked and maintains not packages that are maintained by Debian or upstream of Debian.  Bugs on those packages should be reported upstream.  But there are times when it can be difficult to sort where the issue lies.

#1387 Re: Installation » My Chimaera install issues #1: Forced manual choice of LXQt WM » 2021-07-24 17:25:27

You are welcome to provide a patch upstream to offer the option(s) you suggest.  smile

No.

Hmmmm . . . I moved that thread from Desktop and Multimedia because it is not a support issue but this really isn't the right place either.  I think I'll try to append it to https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=2120 a little later.  But then when I went there I noticed that the image in the first post  has a similar issue.  Will check a bit later with the backend crew to see if something has changed there.

A browser should be able to "View Page Source" which would answer your question.

I am currently on Palemoon and this option is available.

#1391 Re: Other Issues » Amprolla behavior when bullseye released » 2021-07-19 12:38:26

Bullseye = Chimaera

Bookworm = Daedalus

That's why it is a bad idea to use "testing" in your sources.list.

You might start here.  The path to some of the Xfce icons has been changed and some redesigned and some are now eye-shattering blue.  It's being worked on.  Hopefully it can be sorted.

I know who that is and also have been acutely aware of the ethical implications of genetic manipulation since we started going down that rabbit-hole in the mid-90s.  So let's just leave it at that or move the discussion off-forum to a more suitable location.

Worse Than the Disease? Reviewing Some Possible Unintended Consequences of the mRNA Vaccines Against COVID-19

Stephanie Seneff Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, MIT, Cambridge MA, 02139, USA
Greg Nigh Naturopathic Oncology, Immersion Health, Portland, OR 97214, USA

Abstract

Operation Warp Speed brought to market in the United States two mRNA vaccines, produced by Pfizer and Moderna. Interim data suggested high efficacy for both of these vaccines, which helped legitimize Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the FDA. However, the exceptionally rapid movement of these vaccines through controlled trials and into mass deployment raises multiple safety concerns. In this review we first describe the technology underlying these vaccines in detail. We then review both components of and the intended biological response to these vaccines, including production of the spike protein itself, and their potential relationship to a wide range of both acute and long-term induced pathologies, such as blood disorders, neurodegenerative diseases and autoimmune diseases. Among these potential induced pathologies, we discuss the relevance of prion-protein-related amino acid sequences within the spike protein. We also present a brief review of studies supporting the potential for spike protein “shedding”, transmission of the protein from a vaccinated to an unvaccinated person, resulting in symptoms induced in the latter. We finish by addressing a common point of debate, namely, whether or not these vaccines could modify the DNA of those receiving the vaccination. While there are no studies demonstrating definitively that this is happening, we provide a plausible scenario, supported by previously established pathways for transformation and transport of genetic material, whereby injected mRNA could ultimately be incorporated into germ cell DNA for transgenerational transmission. We conclude with our recommendations regarding surveillance that will help to clarify the long-term effects of these experimental drugs and allow us to better assess the true risk/benefit ratio of these novel technologies.
