And remember to use "daedalus" the release name for Devuan's current testing not "testing" in your sources.list. ![]()
FWIW, the Firefox snap is provided by Mozilla. The Thunderbird and Chromium snaps are provided by Canonical.
Repeating for truth . . . snapd is a banned package in Devuan.
epp wrote:Why not add the
snapdpackage to the Devuan repository and let the users decide?
Because it's already available to Devuan users via amprolla.
No it is not. It is a banned package.
desktop-base is a package where the desktop theme is configured. Maybe you have an old configuration somewhere that is conflicting.
I think it is configured in desktop-base as part of the default theme but you should be able to override it.
Reading round it seems that systemd.udev wasn't just appropriated by the systemd team, they also re-worked it and improved it so it performs better and isn't as tightly coupled with systemd as expected so can be used without systemd.
I would never trust that generosity of co-existence coming from LP et al/Red Hat.
It may be that LP, KS & GKH are there to help :-)
Themselves and their "product" for sure. They have never once offered an option of compromise or collaboration.
FYI there is a collaborative project working on eudev including bb|hcb from Devuan and skarnet as well as Alpine devs.
OMG! Lennart and Kay Seivers and GKH are hanging out there too!!
From: https://www.devuan.org/os/packages
Devuan package repositories are exclusive. Other repositories, including Debian, Ubuntu, Mint etc, should NOT be used directly.
Personally, I would never touch anything from the 'buntus.
But your choice and you get to keep all the pieces. ![]()
@ndavilam . . . Devuan does not provide an official way to contribute a "PPA". However sometimes users will share their builds on the "Off-topic" section of this forum. For example, in this thread https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=3331 tdrnetworks is providing up-to-date php builds without systemd.
But also check the daedalus and ceres repositories. The latest shiny FF might be there.
A quick note . . . it is advised not to use pkgmaster in sources.list because it is the source that all mirrors sync with. Please use one of the many mirrors offered on https://www.devuan.org/get-devuan instead.
Those are packages with systemd dependency that are prevented from installing. Those systemd-dependent packages that are essential for Devuan are forked by Devuan devs. Devuan-specific as well as forked packages are found here.
If there is a package on that list that you want, you are welcome to contribute to Devuan by forking it.
@HoaS . . . exactly my point. ![]()
And do so at your own risk . . .
pkgmaster.devuan.org is the source from which all other mirrors are synced. Individual users pulling from it can disrupt the syncing and cause delays elsewhere in the pool.
(You might have to replace stable- with chimaera-.)
Yes, in Devuan always use the release name in sources.list to avoid unintended consequences.
I don't know the details. I am only the messenger. Thanks for the thought though. ![]()
Bookkeeping
Ubuntu and Devuan repos are not compatible.
The bitcoin option was removed some time ago.
Note that slim (the default Display Manager for xfce) is not
accessible.Q: why is this so?
I believe that relates to accessibility features for the visually impaired. If I weren't so lazy, I would actually read the Release Notes to confirm.
Wicd is no longer available in Devuan 4 Chimaera having been removed
from Debian Bullseye because of it's dependency on python2 which is now
obsolete.
Someone on the team is attempting to port it to python3. Keep your fingers crossed.
Sorry for the noise.
I think you might be able to do it here: /etc/grub.d/
Or you could switch it out here /usr/share/desktop-base . . . that's where I put them to test the default desktop theme when I'm working on it.
@Ogis1975 . . . Thanks for the kind words.
The version of Devuan I installed is Devuan beowulf 3.0 323mb.
Just curious why not beowulf 3.1.1. Of course with a full upgrade you would eventually get there.
