#101 Re: Devuan Derivatives » List of Devuan derivatives » 2025-05-08 08:49:10

The ones I know of are MIYO & Star, I believe.

#102 Re: Devuan Derivatives » List of Devuan derivatives » 2025-05-07 17:38:09

I notice that there are several distros listed in the first post that no longer are available, maybe we need a new listing(?).

#103 Re: Off-topic » Lightweight system without (too) bloated software » 2025-04-20 13:52:48

As you have installed Abiword, I'd install gnumeric as well, much easier than sc-im, (which I quite liked myself as a CLI program).

Also, might want to check out feh for images - https://feh.finalrewind.org/

#104 Re: DIY » An idea for 32-bit system for old machines, input requested » 2025-04-09 18:16:31

I think you want to check out some Puppy Linux distros they use compressed software.... wink

#105 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Today's upgrade update-alternatives warning » 2025-04-07 07:55:07

I think you will find it is because you upgraded the xz-utils package, which is obviously part of xz.... wink

#106 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Today's upgrade update-alternatives warning » 2025-04-06 15:13:46

The following packages will be upgraded:
  liblzma-dev liblzma5 liblzma5:i386 xz-utils

The link has been renewed....

#107 Re: Other Issues » Preliminary excalibur desktop-live isos need testing » 2025-04-05 07:38:18

I used to always add mc - screen - sc/scim as I liked to use them at the command line; they don't take up much room, but along with vi/vim, they make a nice set of tools. smile

#108 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Fluxuan-Daedalus » 2025-03-13 09:46:02

Website appears to be dead.....

#109 Re: Forum Feedback » I can't believe you closed the Joke thread. » 2025-02-28 09:20:07

No loss to the forum, which is actually for info & questions relating to Devuan. smile

I only once looked in to see what it was about when it first appeared, never been back to it.....but was just curious about this thread.... wink

#110 Re: ARM Builds » [SOLVED] menu-config utility reference » 2025-02-25 14:06:42

Can't find docs, but when you run it, it allows you to set up your keyboard & country, etc.

#111 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » ddr3 sdram upgrade » 2025-02-23 13:45:21

I was suggesting replacing the internal HDD with an SSD, as it would give quicker booting & access to programs & files.

#112 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » ddr3 sdram upgrade » 2025-02-23 10:26:49

From what I find online, that isn't the right kind of ram.....

MEMORY Lenovo ThinkPad W530
RAM     4 GB (1 x 4 GB)
Max RAM Supported     16 GB
RAM Type     DDR3 SDRAM
Speed     1600 MHz / PC3-12800
Rated Speed     1600 MHz
Form Factor     SO-DIMM 204-pin

However, having said that the speed between 4GB & 8GB of ram won't be that great, (I use 2, 4, & 8GB machines) - I think a better upgrade would be changing to an SSD disk from that old spinner...

#113 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Desktop app menu between different windows managers. » 2025-02-21 17:14:31

With most window managers, additional programs need to be added manually, it's not hard, just one more step....

#114 Re: News & Announcements » A special Valentine's Day for Devuan! » 2025-02-14 09:33:17

Congratulations on Devuan's 10th year anniversary. smile

(As always, my thanks to all those who made it possible.)

#115 Re: Other Issues » Is it possible to install a package permanently on Live ? » 2025-01-17 15:04:04

Add your program whilst running 'live', take a snapshot, put that snapshot onto your disk - that's how I've done it.

#116 Re: Other Issues » Why doesn't systemd work with sysvinit? » 2025-01-10 14:44:54

Sysvinit starts lots of script, whilst systemd controls lots of (built in) processes, it's more like MSWindows Registry.

#117 Re: Off-topic » Textmode/Terminal Browser » 2025-01-04 14:10:39

Looks interesting, most text browsers are difficult to navigate with, I have found, but this is looking like we could do away with a GUI altogether.

#118 Re: Off-topic » [SOLVED] "A future for the i386 architecture" and other good(???) news » 2025-01-01 10:36:08

Looks like 32bit will have to rely on the smaller distros, such as TinyCore, SliTaz, Puppy, etc.

#120 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] Help needed to install Devuan Beowulf on Asus Mini-PC » 2024-12-22 10:28:35

If you still find you are having problems, I'd suggest using the 'live' XFCE image, & install from that, it's what I usually do. wink

#121 Re: Off-topic » The Crappiness of Modern Laptops » 2024-12-17 17:37:45

The only laptop that I have now is an old HP G62 from 2011, dead battery removed & runs on mains, plus an old converted to Linux Toshiba Chromebook from 2014, whose battery still works, (so far wink ), otherwise I use pre used SFF, USFF & thin client computers.....lots of old cheap computers, just for fun. smile

(My main computer is a HP Elitedesk i5 SFF with 8GB DDR3 & 250GB SSD.)

#122 Re: ARM Builds » Booting on USB on Raspberry pi 4 » 2024-12-06 09:32:59

Remove the sd card & it should boot from USB, (pendrive or HDD/SSD), otherwise you need to change the boot order....

#123 Re: News & Announcements » November 27 is a day to celebrate! » 2024-11-27 17:32:37

Hadn't realised it had been that long!

Systemd was the cause, & I'm so glad that the devs forked it to Devuan, long may it outlive Debian!

Heartfelt thanks to all who make it possible for us mere users to continue using Linux without systemd.... big_smile

#124 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Vuu-do Linux! *New Openbox-64 iso's (1.0.7) up 2-02-18*!! » 2024-11-27 10:16:08

Maybe, if you really want to add 'persistence', have a discussion with  antiX/MX Linux developers, they're a friendly lot.

#125 Re: Installation » live iso not booting into graphical environment » 2024-11-27 10:10:15

Apt-get purge is what you need to run, adding the program name that you wish to remove.
