Seems you've forgotten this is a GNUinOS - Libre thread not a Trisquel thread.

I just investigated the options HERE and it seems that credit card donations are going through PayPal (yuck) and the the form does indeed ask for a phone number. Is that the option you tried?  I don't know if it's always been that way but I can ask the folks at dyne if they are aware it is set up that way.  That web page hasn't been changed in a long time. PayPal might have changed their procedure or someone would have probably mentioned it before.

This wouldn't work for you?

server (~670 MB): CD1 of a 4 CD set that allows for a complete off-line server/minimal installation. The remaining CDs offer several desktop choices and a limited selection of additional software.

CD2: Xfce (installable from tasksel) and LXDE.
CD3: MATE (installable from tasksel) and Openbox window manager.
CD4: Cinnamon (installable from tasksel) but requires CD2 and CD3 to install.

Thank you Andy for those offerings. I'm sure they will bring comfort to many.

Here's a slightly different perspective and focus.  Monastics from the Abhayagiri Monastery chanting funeral texts that focus on the grinding realities of impermanence and cause and effect:

This guide recommends you the use of balenaEtcher or Rufus to write the ISO on a storage media (CD/DVD/USB).

Debian do not recommend those tools and I have seen quite a few problem threads over at forums.debian.net caused by Rufus not burning images correctly.

The recommended technique is

cp devuan.iso /dev/sdX ; sync

Reference: https://www.debian.org/CD/faq/index.en.html#write-usb

I have never seen that command recommended at Devuan and have always used the dd command. These are the methods recommended on the Devuan website:

Writing an image to a CD/DVD or USB drive

Images can be written to a CD or DVD using wodim.

user@hostname:~$ wodim dev=/dev/sr0 -eject filename.iso

All Devuan ISO images are hybrid ISOs and may be written to a USB drive using dd.

root@hostname:~# dd if=filename.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=1M && sync

With all due respect golinux, i am old enough to learn from my mistakes but i dont believe i have made any here in my opinion.

Being unaware is not making a mistake.

I agree and thought my response made that clear.  The point was as you stated above to learn from those experiences and move on . . .

Pali was the language of the Vinaya, if I'm not mistaken

The entire Pali Canon (Tipitka) was recorded in Pali but not until about 500 years after the the Buddha's paranibbana. Before then it was passed down via oral tradition.

Indeed.  The task is daunting and monks are equally flawed as all humans are.

Thankfully, the monks who dropped into my life . . . I did not seek them . . . they found me . . . were of impeccable character. But that is a whole other story. This path wasn't exactly on my bucket list . . .

#1220 Re: Off-topic » What are you reading/want to read ? » 2022-03-01 19:01:23

Here's another view of the mind.  One that is over 2500 years old. This is not a "reading" book. It is more of a reference/guide book to understanding experience:
Abhidhammattha Sangaha

Even as skillfully and well documented as these revisions are, it is inevitable that the content will be misunderstood by readers with no knowledge of Pali language or significant internal exploration of the  processes described, so tread lightly and don't embarrass yourself.  smile

FWIW . . . those involved in the revisions of the translation, which were made 30 years ago, were known to me as teachers, mentors and colleagues.  I was asked to review the changes and was surprised and honored to receive a mention of my efforts in the preface.

Yes, better.  Could you please edit the other one also? I don't like to mess with content of users' posts.

As to the psychobabble . . . sooooo many words to state the obvious.  Not impressed . . .

As long a greed hatred and delusion exist in the mind, bias whether conscious or not, is inevitable. Duh . . .

#1222 Re: Off-topic » The Dream » 2022-02-28 20:06:03

Yes, incoming data is just a springboard to dreams and that is where the real challenge lies. Some experiences are pleasant, greed/attachment arise and the mind seeks more. Some are painful, aversion arises and the mind recoils. Other incoming objects are so uninteresting we fall asleep or frantically seek pleasure to keep the dream alive. Better to just observe the whole contaminated process with detachment.

And an observation . . . the formatting of the text in the original Ruiz quote is producing line breaks.  Would be easier to read if the text could just flow.  However, it does give me an opportunity to note annoyance, so thank you for that . . .  big_smile

#1223 Re: Off-topic » The Dream » 2022-02-28 04:17:31

@amaro . . . What exactly does "state of consciousness" mean to you?

In just a few crude words . . . I understand consciousness to be the receptor of all incoming data whether physical through the 5 physical sense doors or mental.  What we do with that information after contact is where humans get into trouble and start dreaming.  Noting what floats by without following it down a rabbit hole lessens the hold that dreaming has on the mind and brings it closer to NOW which is gone in a nano second (poetic not an actual measurement).

Did a 5 minute jump through from beginning to end. Stunning visuals wasted on such silliness, self-indulgence, and fantasy.  Nothing of liberative value there.  Just a celebration of excesses and stereotypes that perpetuate the dream.
