#3301 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] Where are the refracta scripts? » 2017-05-17 17:04:25

@GNUser . . . Even though many of us have been using refracta tools for a long time, software new to Devuan starts in experimental works up to -proposed and then when thoroughly tested moves up to the current release.

Oops.  Fixed.  Thanks for catching that.

A place for Dev1Galaxy users to communicate in their native language(s).  I'm hoping some Romulans or Klingons will show up!!

#3304 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] Redshift fails to start - .service files missing? » 2017-05-16 18:14:23

You probably don't want to upgrade to ascii - it is a bit broken atm.  Just enable the ascii repo to get that one package then disable it immediately.  Along the way, there may be unresolved dependencies and installing from different releases always has a risk of 'unintended consequences'.  Depends how adventurous you are and on your tolerance for breaking things.  Of course it may be perfectly fine.  Your choice.

Look at the bottom of this page for source information.

Note that I am very conservative while others think nothing of leaping into the unknown.

#3306 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] Redshift fails to start - .service files missing? » 2017-05-16 17:00:33

Would be better to get the pkg from Devuan Ascii than Debian Stretch to avoid conflicts down the line.  No guarantee that either one won't break jessie though . . .

#3307 Re: Other Issues » Why excellent, non for business, Motif softwares will die? (Ex.TeD) » 2017-05-14 20:25:03

If someone (perhaps you?) adopts abandoned software and packages it properly for Devuan, it will eventually work its way into the Devuan repos.

#3308 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] can't get splash screen UEFI install (only scrolling text) » 2017-05-14 18:50:55

@hughparker1 . . . I'm pretty sure you won't have to reinstall.  Just an update/upgrade should get you to the stable release.  That looks like Russian to me also.  Locales must be confused . . .

#3309 Re: Other Issues » MySQL » 2017-05-14 15:04:27

Hi and welcome.  This forum is running on Devuan with postgresql just fine.  And I don't remember ever seeing a post on the dng mailing list about sql.  So I assume it works just fine with Devuan.

#3310 Re: Devuan Derivatives » List of Devuan derivatives » 2017-05-14 04:49:32

I just updated the derivatives list.  Apologies for neglecting it for so long..  The list on the website should now be in sync with the one here.   Thanks for your patience.

The love that's been coming Devuan's way has been great but it would be even better if that love transformed into more volunteers helping to improve every aspect of Devuan. Now that we're turning our attention to Ascii, there is certainly plenty to do!  Feedback is essential for Devuan to grow and prosper. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Report a bug - If you think you have found a bug in a Devuan package, please report it to http://bugs.devuan.org, either by using the reportbug tool or directly via email

  • Fix a bug - If you think you know how to fix an existing bug, please report the solution in the corresponding page on http://bugs.devuan.org, or, better, roll-up your sleeves, implement the fix, and get in touch with the development team on IRC (#devuan-dev on libera) to have your patch included in the official repos

  • Share the love - If you would like a package to be included in Devuan, please consider joining the development team by taking charge of packaging and maintaining it. https://git.devuan.org/devuan/documenta … aintainers

  • How can we improve? - If you have comments about the website and/or other public aspects of Devuan, please get in touch with jaromil or golinux

Devuan has a wishlist! As we grow, the need for community participation and hardware and financial support increases. Here are some suggestions that will help move us along:

  • Test new Devuan packages - When packages are built specifically for Devuan, we need feedback about how they work.  This is something that any Devuan user can contribute!

  • Host a mirror - Have extra bandwidth?  Please consider hosting a mirror of Devuan images/repos. Get in touch with Devuan developers on IRC at #devuan-dev` on libera to discuss details

  • Build a local community - Devuan encourages multi-lingual support and localized groups. Consider setting up additional support options on the dev1galaxy forum or an email list or IRC channel etc., in your native language. Here are some  suggestions to get you started: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1498#p1498

  • Translate language packs for FluxBB - This contribution would allow local communities to use the dev1galaxy.org forum in their native language.  So far Polish, Italian, Swedish and Croation are in process. See: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1528

  • Contribute RTFM stuff - Documentation and/or translations in any language are needed. Contributions could go into https://wiki.devuan.org or https://dev1galaxy.org/viewforum.php?id=7

  • Donate an ARM development board (50$-100$) (contact parazyd parazyd@dyne.org / #devuan-arm)

  • Donate an ARM or ARM64 build host (50$-200$) (contact parazyd parazyd@dyne.org / #devuan-arm)

  • Donate a MIPS board (50$-200$) (contact parazyd parazyd@dyne.org)

  • Donate PowerPC/Sparc hardware for build/development (contact devs on #devuan-dev)

  • Or you can always make a one-time or recurring donation of any amount. Please visit: https://devuan.org/os/donate where we just updated the financial reports.

We're on a roll!  The RC2 was released on Friday and the reviews have been great!  Here's an excerpt from one on Distrowatch:

It seems to me that these guys didn't really fork Debian, Devuan is the path that would have been taken if Debian had stayed true to its raison d'etre. Debian chose to fork itself and it did royally.

May Devuan live long and prosper, the true ascendant to the throne.

You can read the official announcement here.

#3313 Re: Devuan » Ports Beyond x86/amd64/ARM » 2017-05-08 05:14:46

@Sudos . . . Sounds like you didn't see the announcement  for the RC2 that was released on Friday.  There is a wishlist under the "Anyone can help Devuan!" section that includes hardware.  Note that 29 different ARM boards are now supported.

#3314 Re: Other Issues » Update problem » 2017-05-07 20:00:32

Any non-jessie repos in the mix?  Even backports can be troublesome.

#3315 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Slim - no user, password field titles » 2017-05-05 19:16:41

FTR, the 'official' color that will be used for the username/password text in the revised devuan-curve-purpy theme is #DAD9DC.  The file is here /usr/share/slim/themes/devuan-curve-purpy/slim.theme.  Change username_color to #DAD9DC

There are two methods to report a bug.  One is by email.  Do you have email?  You do not need an account and need to send in plain text not html.

#3318 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Slim - no user, password field titles » 2017-05-05 01:58:38

Welcome to the forum!  Happy to hear you like the purpy theme. I just had a look at the slim.theme.  The problem was that the username_color was identical to the curve background color so the text was there but 'invisible'. Can't remember why we did it that way . . . maybe for a less cluttered look.  Anyway, the revised slim devuan-curve-purpy theme with a visible username and password prompt should be in the repos shortly.

#3319 Re: Other Issues » network-manager are working with slim » 2017-05-04 16:16:17

There is a systemd-free version of network-manager in the Devuan repos and I know that it is being used with no bugs filed against it.

BBCode is now available at the click of a mouse on both the quick reply and regular input areas.  So no excuse not to format your posts!

Presentation is important.  A wall of text with no visual clues to organize content is difficult to follow and may even reduce the chances of a post being read or an answer given.  We hope to build solid documentation for the Devuan community here so please be thoughtful when posting.  smile

Best policy IMO.

It's not offered as an option in this BB template? Small toolbar for the bottom that offers to tag img, url, code, quote etc.?

No. Only third party mods.  I couldn't find one compatible with our version.  rrq is looking into it.  Heck, he could probably write it himself!  Some of the recent posts are unreadable so we need to do something . . .

#3323 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » OpenVPN » 2017-04-29 15:04:03

FYI, I have put a link to a list of the BBCode tags available in FluxBB in an announcement at the top of the forum.

#3324 Re: Devuan » Ports Beyond x86/amd64/ARM » 2017-04-27 14:30:23

The limiting factor is hardware availability.  If you can supply hardware for testing, we'll be happy to try.  smile

If learning to use BBCode is a prerequisite to using this forum I am in the wrong place. This is not a criticism but a simple fact.

The only tags you are likely to need are code, b and maybe a quote here and there. Is that such a stretch?  That being said, we'll look into adding a simple formatting mod.
