#101 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release » 2023-12-24 10:36:01

These days, when adding drives to a system, (in /etc/fstab), it is best to use their UUID, as drives get their /dev/sd(?) as they are found on the system, not by what disk they actually are.

Before manually mounting a disk, plug it in, then run

sudo dmesg | tail

to find out what the system has designated it as, then you mount it to a directory, often just use /mnt. smile

I see no reason for a wink:-(

Because there are 32bit systems still available.....so those old computers are still usable/useful, even if a bit slow....not everyone expects instant website access. smile

#103 Re: News & Announcements » Debian and 32-bit x86 » 2023-12-20 14:56:19

32bit systems are still supported by the BSDs & Haiku, so they don't need to be thrown out just yet...... wink

Whilst I had been a long time Debian user, (since 1999), I went over to Devuan, to get away from systemd & the like, & will, (if I need to), go over to BSD full time, if it (systemd) becomes the 'Linux way'. big_smile

#104 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release » 2023-12-17 17:20:17

I found it easy to use, though I did run it as the root user from the command line, it then opens up into a graphical installer, which I think is pretty straight forward to use.

Welcome aboard. smile

Devuan is what Debian was - giving back freedom to the user. wink

#106 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Copy and Paste the traditional way » 2023-12-14 14:39:07

Alternative to middle wheel pasting is both left & right buttons together....

#107 Re: News & Announcements » And here we are ... » 2023-12-13 09:47:49

It's OK....I've been practicing with the BSDs for this very scenario...... big_smile

If 'Linux' does disappear down this route, at least I'm ready.... wink

#108 Re: Devuan Derivatives » New Refracta ISOs » 2023-12-11 09:39:04

Try....

free -m;df -h;ls

That should give you some info output....

#109 Re: Off-topic » Say hello! » 2023-12-08 09:51:05

Welcome aboard.......Devuan is Debian without systemd. smile

#110 Re: Devuan Derivatives » [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded » 2023-12-06 10:30:28

@ zephyr

My apologies, I thought that I remembered you & Miyo discussing how to do some things on here... smile

#111 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Upcoming browser changes » 2023-12-06 10:25:44

I could never get on with Chrome/Chromium, so have always used Firefox, occasionally Dillo, & have tried to use text browsers too, the internet has become an advertising space for corporations, far removed from its original purpose...

I stopped using Youtube when forced to watch adverts, & only returned to it when we could block them - so if everyone did so, they'd soon lose all their revenues..

#112 Re: Devuan Derivatives » [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded » 2023-12-05 10:25:57

@ Ron

Check out Crowz, (partially created with help from MIYO), it's a neat little system. smile

#113 Re: News & Announcements » Shape of things to come? 8^° » 2023-11-30 10:59:01

I just wish someone/distros would revive TinyX....... big_smile

#114 Re: Installation » First experiences and contact with Daedalus » 2023-11-28 13:31:28

Grub, by default, no longer looks for other operating systems....

#116 Re: Off-topic » Weak processor + minimal DE = no miracle! » 2023-11-23 18:25:09

Weak processor + minimal DE

Wyse Dx0Q     1.5GHz Quad Core AMD GX-415GA     Radeon HD8330E graphics

Slow, but I still use XFCE & FF on it.... smile

#117 Re: Devuan » Making Devuan widely use » 2023-11-23 10:36:25

If you want it to look like Mint, just use Mint.....

Devuan has its own look & feel.... big_smile

But, you can modify it if you want, that's what Linux is all about. smile

#118 Re: Installation » Minimum disk space for newinstall ? » 2023-11-20 14:31:27

3.2GB installed Daedalus/XFCE. smile

It's not a disk hog like MSWindows..... wink

#119 Re: Freedom Hacks » Anyone know how to make a usb mouse work? » 2023-11-19 09:34:11

I have to click a button to get mine working/switched on.

#120 Re: Documentation » HOWTO: JWM Basic Configuration » 2023-11-17 10:29:48

Apart from adding to the menu, I find JWM to be an ideal WM, just move the panel to the top of the screen. smile

#121 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » are you happy with all the old and new wm's for simple small distros? » 2023-11-15 09:34:52

are you happy with all the old and new wm's for simple small distros?

Yes, I am. smile

#122 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] Devuan Daedalus apt install problem » 2023-11-12 12:47:58

I use apt-get & it's working on my Daedelus installs from the live XFCE & from Crowz....

Did you use sudo? Did you update first?

#123 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » How to start desktop on Raspberry Pi3? » 2023-11-11 18:04:04

If 'startx' doesn't work, you need to install xorg & a WM/DE.

(It's been a while since I last installed it to a RPi....) wink

#124 Re: DIY » So I guess there's no getting around having to use GTK3 and Wayland? » 2023-11-08 10:36:43

Well......we still have an unadulterated command line available - perhaps we will have to just go back to using that! big_smile

#125 Re: Devuan » Debian Farm? » 2023-11-08 10:29:00

They tried that before, & lost a lot of their programmers, & users, & created a lot of bad blood!

Haven't they learned their lesson yet! - Linux is about freedom of choice!

Thankfully, it caused Devuan to be born in the first instance, if they do it again, many users will (possibly) ditch Devuan as well, if it isn't an easy job to continue using Debian as a base!
