Re: Matlib's GTK2 corner

Hi! Just stumbled across this on Devuan's git, I like what i see, been looking for something to replace lxrandr in my projects and this looks like it might be just the ticket. wink

I downloaded the .deb but looks like you've made some more changes since then, will there be a new release upcoming?

Re: Matlib's GTK2 corner

I see this got moved to "other issues", wouldn't it be better to move to the "DIY" section?

Re: Matlib's GTK2 corner

The .deb didn't work for Debian, so it needed a fix. That's irrelevant anyway as my account on git.devuan.org has been silently removed.

Well that's a shame, I wonder why they would do that?  I have your gitlab bookmarked and will keep an eye out on it, happy to help with testing/feedback, feel free to e-mail me with any updates, I have a vested interest now in all things gtk2. wink

IMO, Devuan should be an "AI-free Zone".

Why supposedly intelligent life forms participate in activities that tighten the noose of servitude is beyond my comprehension. It's a bit like lemmings jumping off the cliff . . .

Time for some house cleaning . . . ?

Re: Matlib's GTK2 corner

I would say that being completely against using a tool out of "fear" that it will takeover is kind of the same thing people did with Socialism and the brown shirts way back when. When extremism becomes stupidity we have a problem. What do I mean by extremism ? That is basically using the ideology that we do not want AI automatically doing everything for us so that means even using it as a tool for research or as a way to code more efficiently or even using AI to cut the time of programming and find more efficient ways of syntax or formatting is bad ( even if you design the software yourself and even if you use a syllabus and you keep records so that you can work on your own code ). This isn't an intelligent mode of thought. This is elitism masked as "AI is bad" but in reality it is just an excuse to be an elitist and it gets into the exact clique mentality that drove me away from Debian and all of the other woke distros. It is the exact idea that makes these wokie socialists take something and turn it to its extreme and invent a problem so that they can conveniently come up with a solution that nobody needs or wants. THAT is the problem. The problem isn't people using AI as a tool. It is AI automatically making every decision for us and being the designer and architect as well. If you have a brain and can create things yourself and are acting as an architect by creating your syllabus and scehmatic first that isn't vibe coding. Vibe coding is just letting the AI do everything and just saying "yeah that feels right so I will go with that" and not double checking nor being able to double check the code it is giving you. There is a huge difference. One option cannot understand or read the code and the AI is in control, the other option is directing the AI but stopping the AI at each pass to analyze the code being given and creating records and a schematic in case it is to be worked on in the future or improved upon. People can come up with all of the excuses in the world to be an elitist but they are still just excuses and people see right through it.

@IamThatIam . . . Paragraphs exist for a reason. Your unintelligible "glob" is something I can imagine an AI would regurgitate. I just don't have the skills to decipher that "dump". But then I could never get a handle on James Joyce either . . . LOL!

Re: Matlib's GTK2 corner

IamThatIAm, this has zero to do with politics or "woke"...

The only people involved in software dev, who call "AI" a tool are either those who may use it for auditing purposes or the low skilled frauds and plaigarists trying to pass themselves off as "developers".

If I use an "AI" art website to create some artwork am I now an "artist"? If I create music am I now a musician? Only the deluded or those with an agenda would answer yes to either.

It's actually the professionally offended. often anti meritocracy "woke" types as you might call them, who are big proponents of LLMs, as it allows the unskilled to get involved in what they would previously have been excluded from. These same people often denounce their detractors as "elitist".

It's no different from a person who is barely literate, instructing an LLM to write their resume/CV for them.
