On KDE wayland it works on devuan 5. But not gnome. Will that change in next release?

so there are rumors that now that gnome os is using systemd-homed by default there are plans for gnome to become the first desktop environment to make the usage of systemd-homed mandatory.

The gnome project have made it clear that they only care about Linux based OS with systemd installed, so don't get your hopes up.

Devuan 5 is daedalus (oldstable), Devuan 6 is excalibur (stable). Gnome works in excalibur. If you want to try it in freia (currently in testing) there's a netinstall iso, so you could install it to a spare partition or into a virtual machine. And if you do that, please let us know what you find. Thanks.

gnome is a lost cause. I recently installed it in a Debian 13 system and it's truly a GUI designed by people who view their users as total idiots. It's developed from a proprietary mindset and is systemd focused, only a masochist would waste time trying to get it working on a systemd-less Linux distribution - bearing in mind that the upstream are constantly working against you.

gnome is the one desktop environment where the desired behaviour happens because of a bug, at this point anyone who like the gnome ecosystem but don't want mandatory systemd should look into forking gnome for the long term.

I am surprised Gnome has been a viable option for so long. Even more surprised that people actually use it.
This classic from 2012 nails it!!
