Re: Is AI going to become a Frankenstein monster?

AI is BS:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ro130m-f_yk

Artificial Imitation of human thought... nothing but hype and scam to make humans feel somehow redundant.

What's the novelty factor of AI? I just fail to see anything special about it. Programming, simulation and automation done in a particularly irresponsible and dumb manner, perhaps? Compare it with the invention of computers, radio or aeroplane... It's obvious there's no great breakthrough of any kind associated with the 'AI'. It's only yet another shoddy marketing and general deception tool in the hands of the small minds who think themselves to be the 'enlightened' ones. No reason to worship it, neither out of fear nor admiration.

As I've said all along - it's just a big database - nothing special about it.

"ai" will be one of the future "bubbles" along with "crypto"

follow the money down the rabbithole/blackhole/wormhole

just one company:

https://tenstorrent.com/

check out their $12K blackhole unit or the $15K wormhole:

also had this open in a tab as well but not sure at what point i stumbled over that cliff:

Not exactly a Frankenstein... something pervasively worse.

Yet the not-so-publicized development is alive and well:

And stargate-scm's 'Intergalactic Assimilation' posted text gives a plausible picture of how it would happen: in the end we will all be assimilated

Consider how systemd became a reality, followed by blacklisting Master/Slave and Whitelist/Blacklist labels, followed by user/dev forums and lists rewriting rules of conduct so we would learn the approved of and proper way to communicate with one another... these inanities became the new normal, as have many other new normals. Is there any reason to believe this gov't funded and big-tech developed biotechnology wouldn't follow the same path?

I have been meaning to watch this, thanks for the reminder.
I watched a short review on this on youtube and apparently it was a flop during its release due to other box office films at the time.
But im betting it would be a popular classic these days.

Hello:

An article about AI refusing commands ...

Along the same lines:
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/ … ogy-rights

What is really scary is how much crap some people are capable of spewing:
“People demanding that AIs have rights ... " WTHF?

While millions of human beings all over the world are denied basic human rights?

Best,

Appreciate the tip.* Like the Terminator series which later followed a similar concept, corporate devs who are in it for the science and rarely consider (or understand) real world consequences are blamed. I tend to look at who mandates the devs'/scientists' efforts and arrogantly/foolishly perceive those efforts as a means to more power and control. Something like the 1967 Bond movies spoof, The President's Analyst.

We're very close to this:

Re: Is AI going to become a Frankenstein monster?

Sorry to be the voice of moderation here, lol, but pretty much every science fiction story ever written has all kinds of calamity in it by design, people wouldn't read it or go to the movies if it was just mundane everyday life described.

People who design AI say it will be the best thing ever, and then on the other end of the scale there are people who say it will be the worst thing ever.

And here I am in the middle as always, having lived through dozens of these disruptive technology moments and listened to all this before, still saying the same thing which is nearly always correct:

It can be a good thing, or a bad thing, just depends on how people use it. But it won't be the end of the world.

Try optimism people, glass half-full.

Lol I know older folks that have still never used a computer a day in their life because they think it's the devil.

Re: Is AI going to become a Frankenstein monster?

a frankenstein monster? you mean a sentience forced into life to satiate the ego of it's creator, also a missunderstood existance victim of the monstrosity of it's creator whom explicitly refused to care for or to nurture his creation beyond what served to ego jerk himself?

cuz if that is the case then AI is already a frankenstein creature, it and us being just victims to the many victor frankenstein aspirers out there that have an ongoing ego cock measuring contest...

Re: Is AI going to become a Frankenstein monster?

I hear rumors that the latest claude is getting very good. Ir's too pricy for me to check.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwmK46hhfwg

A lot of people say too much nonsense on AI.

Here's a short explanation on AI.

AI, is a gigantic function approximator. It wasn't invented by a human, it was reverse engineered from the animal brain. Both work on the same principle.

Ever heard of the line of best fit? That's a very simple function approximator. You give to an algorithm a bunch of points and it spits out a line. An AI/brain is billions of times larger and more sophisticated then just a strait line.

More specifically. during training, the training algorithm causes the examples to "decompose" in abstract ideas and get sorted by layers of increasing abstraction. For example, the lowest layer recognizes segments of curves, the next layer recognizes loops, the next recognizes eyes, the next heads.... the last one recognizes cat or dog. This is actually thinking, it doesn't just "regurgitate". It's more obvious that it is thinking when you deal with stuff that simply can't be rote learned. For example, AI solved go game and protein folding. These two things have more possible solutions then they are atoms in the universe. These two examples clearly prove that it's not just a fancy lookup table. These things truly think. It's not just hype, it's not just marketing, it's not just a fancy DB. If you still insist it's just a DB, you are an idiot. It's flat earth/ young earth creationist level of stupid.

An other example, an AI was trained to recognize a disease in the back of the eye. They realized, that it could also recognize gender just by looking at the back of the eye... No one knows how it's doing that.

Current AI is demented because the quality of the training is a bit iffy. All the weird stuff like with OP, it's just AIs being a bit mad. The training is riddled with errors.Did you really think that the first AIs will not be half insane? And because this fits with the subject. Sentience doesn't exist, it's just an illusion. Humans are not sentient, they are just biological robots that think they are sentient. With that in mind, AI is not sentient, just demented.

How the sentience illusion work? The brain(and AI) have tokens that represent something about the world, like colors, sensations, ideas ect. The brain creates a simulation of the real word, with these tokens being presented as being real. In a simulation you can do what ever you want, you can have dragons, elves fairies etc. For practical reasons, the real encoding of the tokens is hidden from inside the simulation. Probably colors simply follow an RGB encoding, they are other weird ones like sensation of burned is encoded with cold and warm. You can only experience what's in that simulation and the tokens are irreducible by design. This is what it causes the illusion. It's just a simulation of the brain that doesn't really exist. From your perspective it's simultaneously reality and fantasy, fake and real. This is how the paradox of sentience get's solved. It's not real magic, it's just a disappointing trick. Most people can't accept this.

Re: Is AI going to become a Frankenstein monster?

but we definitely will become what we think

Unlikely, considering no one knows what they really are to begin with; and since humans can only define themselves as situations of thinking within a limited observably ordered universe, they have no proveable basis to think themselves into something from something. Neither would terribly misnomered AI. Reconstruction is not possible from unknown constructs.

Anger is always more useful than despair

They are the same: frustration at facing futility; and neither can face reality without creation. Exhaustion and then sleep and dreaming may be the precursor to creation. AI will never be able to display such mental behavior and thus never be truly creative. Furthermore AI can never actively forget, thus its labeling as "intelligence" is a misnomer.

Will AI destroy our way of life? Maybe...but then what's so great about digitalizing human identity to the point of the destruction of the futile hope for freedom that most humans embrace. If the digital age were to be utterly destroyed by AI it might well be an act of liberation.
