So i'm working on new versions of stuff, and what I want to do is some work on sources.list, currently i'm using gnlug for mine as that's the fastest in the continental US that i've used.
This next version what I want to do is have the default Devuan round-robin entries at the top, with entries below them (commented out by default of course) for the best/fastest repo for each continent. I'll be using gnlug for the North American entry unless there's something better that someone knows about.
But for the other continents I have no way to test, so if any of y'all who live in those places could take a second and let me know what works best for you it would be extremely helpful. ![]()
Just trying to make it easier for folks, in my projects I have some documentation explaining repo stuff and of course links to Devuan's online mirror list and such. But I though it would be helpful to give some choices for a starting point if deb.devuan.org isn't working out for them. People could switch right in Synaptic or with a quick edit to sources.list.
Thanks!

Hello:
... if deb.devuan.org isn't working out for them.
I do not recall ever having had any issues with deb.devuan.org*, save for those generated by my FO service provider. 8^°

I've always used us.deb.devuan.org.

Well, if Devuan shipped netselect-apt with a usable mirror list, we could just use that as it's supposed to be used... But of course they don't, so instead it works brilliantly for finding the best Debian mirror. ![]()

I only have a faint idea of this mechanism, so:
Could the current situation cause some erratic behaviour, like amirror "not fount" and one minute later it does?
Or: not all suits included in the sources to be found?
(the detailed problem is fund here: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=59135#p59135)

Seriously, it would be VERY helpful if folks could point out the best direct repo in general for each of the geographic areas, I think sources.list should be shipped that way with deb.devuan.org as the default, but with alternatives already listed that they can easily switch to.
Don't know how that would work for deb822 as currently Synaptic can't even display deb822 entries for the user to change in the gui the last time I checked, but myself i'm sticking to the old format as long as possible.

It doesn't work like that, it's not geography but rather peering agreements between network providers and available bandwidth between networks that determine which repo is best.
I.e. in the same exact physical location the "best" repo will likely differ depending on which network provider you use.

@greenjeans ...dont know how up-to-date this is but it will give you a rough idea of the number of mirrors avaiable (or not)

Tux in this case geography absolutely matters, in the midwest US gnlug is blazing fast, in Europe and Asia not so much as i've seen people from those areas post that they had to switch because the effective rate on their end was way too slow.
So gnlug is the best alternative for my area and possibly most of the US. Yes there are others but as you mentioned not everyone is set up the same, so gnlug it is. I'm basically just looking for an equivalent in the other geographic areas. It might be different from eastern Europe to western Europe but surely there's a happy medium in there somewhere that most folks can agree works well for them.

The problem for me is that the fastest mirrors from my location seem to change pretty often. I usually just keep it at us.deb.devuan.org. If I use the global URL (deb.devuan.org) I always seem to hit an extremely slow mirror eventually. However, there was a while last summer where the only mirror that gave me a decent connection was in Taiwan.
Don't know how that would work for deb822
All I have to do to switch mirrors is change which line is commented out:

I'm located in Europe (NL) and switched to gnlug over a year ago. Sofar it's been the fastest mirror, no lagging - and never failed on my system

Wow, srsly? I had a guy in Germany tell me gnlug ran at about 40kbps for him, said he switched to sledjhamr as it was the fastest repo for him.
