Re: deb.sury.org now requires systemd

Hi All,

We have now pushed a number of updated packages.

PHP 8.0, 8.1, and 8.2 are now available for ascii, beowulf, and chimaera.

All php modules on our build-list, for example php-imagick have been refreshed to include 8.2 support.

Out of support versions, such as Devuan Jessie and versions before PHP8, are no longer getting updates - but will remain available in the repo.

apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 1CC02413BFF88108

### PHP Rebuilds for Devuan Ascii

deb-src https://pkgs.tdrnetworks.com/apt/devuan ascii main

### PHP Rebuilds for Devuan Beowulf

just bypass with [trusted=yes] after "deb" and before "http" in the repository line.. its nto a big issue, just another paranoic security layer

I didn't know you guys still supported Ascii.

To the best of my knowledge, is it on LTS now?

Re: deb.sury.org now requires systemd

I apologize even before I ask this as I hope that I do not appear to be impatient, but will php packages for daedalus be built by tdrnetworks.com any time soon?  Just trying to plan an upgrade eventually.  I have used these packages without issue for over 3 years now, so I trust them.

I did run a test by upgrading to deb.sury.org's packages for daedalus and they appear to work fine, so this is a possibility.  If using sury.org's repo one will need to install "systemd-standalone-tmpfiles" beforehand.

But I did get an awful feeling when I willfully installed something with "systemd" in its name.

The fact that I can't use php-sury on Devuan is a big issue for me too...
I will probably need to dig on how to manage that by myself if I want to use it in production...

Debian is slowy getting really annoying with is systemd crap...

Re: deb.sury.org now requires systemd

Hello,

I have found this thread to be very helpful and have used this solution on quite a few servers.  Are there any plans to extend this to PHP 8.3?

Thanks

Re: deb.sury.org now requires systemd

I never really use php or apache, but then again, I don't use server like applications... so yeah.

I can't say if anything better exists or not. Or even similar or alternative.

All I can say is, yes... debian is muking with things sounds about right.  All mainstream distros do this tho...

Except maybe Void.

Re: deb.sury.org now requires systemd

Is there any documentation on how to build those packages ?
I look to switch on Devuan, but this is a critical point for me...

Re: deb.sury.org now requires systemd

Resurrecting this old topic, because I'm trying to understand the current situation with the sury.org packages which I've used in the past:

Am I to understand that I could install PHP 8.3 PHP from sury.org on Daedalus as long as I first install systemd-standalone-tmpfiles?

Thanks in advance!
Tom

Re: deb.sury.org now requires systemd

Greetings tlathm,

I tested this a couple years ago and it did work.  I have a virtual machine that is an exact duplicate of my production server that I use to test stuff on.  I updated this virtual machine and ran this command with the following output:

root@FC-vm:/etc/fail2ban# apt install php8.3-fpm -s
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
The following additional packages will be installed:
  systemd-standalone-tmpfiles
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  php8.3-fpm systemd-standalone-tmpfiles

Also, to quote from a google AI search result:

For a Debian system that isn't using systemd as its init system, you can use the
systemd-standalone-tmpfiles package as a standalone alternative to systemd-tmpfiles. This package provides a version of systemd-tmpfiles that can be used on non-systemd systems.

Important Notes:
Conflict with systemd: systemd-standalone-tmpfiles conflicts with the main systemd package and is intended for use where systemd is not the primary init system.

So, this package "systemd-standalone-tmpfiles" is only to be used on systems that do not use systemd as its init system.

Note:  At some point you may be prompted by apt to install "systemd-standalone-sysusers".  There is a substitute program for this called opensysusers.  I have found that it is interchangeable and does not have systemd in its name.

Re: deb.sury.org now requires systemd

Awesome nixer! Thanks for the detailed reply! I'll have to test that out at some point.

Thanks again
