Funny, when I was busking the police had a hard time making me move on, they liked the colours (team colours) as well. :-)

What kind of guitar do you play?
I used to rock ... back when I was younger and had hair ...
I have a Takamine acoustic/electric.

@golinux (?)
"Picking" up on things...
Hahaha!
Good title!
Sorry for the trouble I caused for taking things off-topic in the other thread.

Yeah . . . guilty as charged! Title made sense to me. Happy to hear you approve!

I learned all kinds of styles, but I'm a Rocker, but anything with guitar in it. Alice Cooper, Areosmith... plenty of Aussie bands too.
70's mostly the stuff I heard as a pre-teen... I eventually made my way back there.
I love Joe Satriani, when his tune "Always with you, Always with me" came on the radio I bought my first electric guitar (later upgraded to a new 1991 Fender American Standard Stratocaster), and I had a Laney L50R (?) amp in 1993. Now I can make stuff up to please myself, console myself, amaze listeners and try to setup my pc as a DAW. I hope you are all having a great weekend.
Thank you Golinux for your indulgences during these posts. I felt guilty cross-talking.

@GlennW . . . Please, no guilt! Social interactions are part of what makes a community special. If they end up in the wrong place, they are easy enough to move. Please let us know if you see something that is out of place and we'll take care of it.

Play guitar too and Devuan is great platform for a DAW! I recommend Reaper - lot of native plugins for Linux and easy to use GUI.
(Wish I had a Strat )

@GlennW If you haven't heard it, Terra Firma by Tommy and Phil Emmanuel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzHUF3o5ML8

Hi, Thanks for the video link. I have been lucky enough to be at one of Phil's shows (as a punter, I used to work in the industry for a few years) and had a drink with him after the show... It was my birthday gift from my Wife at the time, dinner and drinks and live one man show. It was fantastic! I was also fortunate enough to have one of Tommy's coaching videos, but a work mate borrowed it and couldn't find it to return it to me, the little rotter. I play more like Phil, but I love how Tommy plays.

My family and I just got back from a 10-day vacation.
I love Joe Satriani, when his tune "Always with you, Always with me" came on the radio I bought my first electric guitar
I have that song on my daily play-list. When I used to work in a large US city, the traffic was awful. If you didn't drive like a maniac, you'd get run over. So, I would often play Satriani's "Surfing with the Alien" to get my adrenaline pumped up just to keep up with everyone else. Haha!
I still like to rock. Boston, Cheap Trick, 38-Special, Kansas, Triumph, Rush, ZZ-Top...the whole gamut.
However, I'm slowly teaching myself classical guitar. I took one guitar lesson when I was 14. The guy mostly played country music. I asked him if he would to teach me to play "Wipe Out". After that one lesson, I taught myself from then on.

Our preferences are to some extent determined by playback devices.
It is impossible to listen to classical music on a boombox; you simply cannot hear most of it.
I have almost all the CDs of our pop group, so the later the recording, the higher the average recording level and the smaller the dynamic range.
Adapted to reality, everything thumps at the same volume.
Offline
The list of bands and types of music I appreciate is too long to list,
I'd forget some of the best and that would not be fair to all those wonderful musicians who shaped my life.
I haven't heard of Triumph... thanks, I look into that.
There's a special kind of bliss I experience when engaged in playing music, and singing (and whistling too).
In a world of Tech I have that escape.
Currently I'm teaching myself some finger picking, Dust in the Wind, by Kansas... and Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. It excites my brain. ;-)
When it comes to playback quallity, I rip my cd's to flac and really don't have change any eq settings. But I do have mp3's for in the car... it's so noisy it dosen't really matter, it seems my memory of the tunes fills in the gaps. Getting a constant volume level across all tracks and albums is the hardest part I feel.
I hope you had a good vacation, a break from work is a necessity these days more and more for our mental health.
Thank you for your replies, you put a smile on my face and lighten my moods this time of a morning (here in Australia).
(Off-topic, Off-topic)
My biggest concern now-a-days is securing my system from being hacked, facebook I think...(and maybe forums like this one LQ) I'm saving that for another post here... to help others and maybe get some advice as well, but it seems that when I ask, something is knocking on the doors... testing me. Like all my fans shut off yesterday just after I refused a so called friend of a friend a senseless conversation, that I think was meant to enable them/it to distract me while they mined my account and system. My cpu overheated and auto shutdown was initiated, thankfully that was immediate, but when I rebooted the bios reported overheating... and all the fansettings were OFF!. I'm not sure how to ask or how to compose the statement/question appropriately. anyhow, I'll get to that soon.
aluma, what was/is the name of your pop group? I have some demos I put up on Jamendo.
These recording were mostly done to test equipment, and are not even demo quality, but just hard and fast recordings some of the songs I have written.
I can only find one song up there now, but here it is...
https://www.jamendo.com/track/570749/reita
ps, here's the rest... some were done with friends. https://www.jamendo.com/album/65893/no-edits
all the best, Regards Glenn

Braaaahhhhh!!! You've got to check out Triumph at the US festival (1983)!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=032W5-qn5wk
WATCH THE WHOLE THING when you have time!!! Then look up specific songs on YouTube.
I wrote a song (finger picking), and I was approached to make a record. The dude wanted just me...not the whole band. It felt sleazy. That was the closest I ever got to a recording contract, and I turned it down. I don't regret it.
Now, I play for myself, my wife, and friends.
My favorite thing is to be asked to play the guitar in a crowd. So, I pick up the guitar and "attempt" to play "Pop Goes the Weasel"...but I mess it up on purpose.
So, I "try" again...and mess it up on purpose again...to see the frowns on people's faces.
Hahaha!
Then, I play some classical guitar piece, and I watch their faces turn from frowns to smiles.
I just like having fun now...life is too short.

I don't use Farce-Book...

That's fantastic. I once played Sister Golden Hair for my little sister at her wedding reception, I was sweating bullets and quaking inside, and messed it up a few times... when I finished I asked, "want me to do it again?" they all shook their heads and laughed. It was a great experience, first public performance with a PA, but thankfully all friends and family. lol.
Yeah, bragbook is a farce!

That's fantastic...!!!
I've never attempted learning "Sister Golden Hair". That band is amazing!!!
You have my utmost respect for playing it!

America has some really cool love songs. That's where I started playing, on a gut string classical.
That vid of Triumph was amazing, 1984 was a great year for Rock music, imo.
One of the songs, and vocalist reminded me of Chickenfoot. :-) (the way they sound...)
thanks. :-)
