Re: Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release

Downloading now. I see the iso has grown a bit this time. Is that just due to devuan/debian getting bulkier in the base?

After each release, I do unfortunately have some bulk-size issues, and normally resolve to find the hiding culprits! Some call it "cruft", certainly not needed that I see ATM, sometimes brought in by new software perhaps.

Still looking sad

Thanks for your input!

Still under 1GB which is pretty damn good imo. I couldnt download the iso yesterday, sourceforge was acting up, would download 50 or so mb's and fail. Tried a few mirrors and had the same issue. Will try again tonight.

Re: Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release

Hello, I have seen the video of your distro/re-spin and I think it is a very good job. Also appreciate that calamares installer dipsone. Could you tell me if it is very complicated to implement, any trick or indication to do it as well as possible and with quality in my Re-spin, which currently uses refract but I wanted to give the option of being able to install the system also with squids. Thank you very much for your help.

Re: Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release

Hi, As my new project «Just:Ceres» did only a little interest (actually only 229 visits, partially also from me myself), I did go back today to my precedent goal: use Crowz 5.0 amd 64 as some kind of rolling distribution under Ceres. In the last times, it was not possible: after the upgrade to Ceres it did not start any more (probably caused by superior problems as kernel! But no message on the screen, no possibility to search and find some solution...).

But, today, I have a Crowz amd64 seeing to be working well in Ceres. The only problem:

My installation is a really big installation : size 27.58 GB / used 10,27 GB (including some packages like «Anbox»

I will try in the next days to use this Linux more to test  his "tolerance" with my vision of Linux and perhaps (try parallel the same with Star Linux 32 bit. For me are i686 enormous important: they continue to be the most present Personal Computers in the world! Our "civilization" can not continue to produce such quantity of material only to produce more profit for the producers!!! Such civilization is not a civilization but horror pure!!!!

Re: Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release

Hi, This project also continue to present difficulties as I will use it always in 2 different usages:

- snapshot starting without some precedent data
- normal starting from full installation (with precedent data)

Why?

The great advantage of the Refracta-Tools is that! For the everyday use, snapshot starting is enough and give no possibility to other to follow your activities: they can place cookies but after shutting down, no cookie resist any more!

Where is the problem now?

My installation from Crowz is really old. She were upgraded 3 time to Chimerae, to Daedalus and now to Ceres. I did not change the initial script. But now, I have to see that the installation from sudoers is not any more in Ceres as she was and this has consequences!

Without the help of Refracta specialists, I am afraid that more people will have difficulties with the (for me) new sudo!

We need a clear recommendation (with examples, not with an immersion in the hard man pages in English from the new packages from Debian) what is to do in case that ugly new comportment of Linux appears and blocks the Refracta tools.

Oui,

Please start a new thread for your sudo problem, and please provide any error messages that you got and a description of what did not work.

Loving this version of Crowz, & so easy to install. smile

50% of my stack of computers are now running Crowz, the others are using Devuan Live (installed).

Excellent work!

Camtaf: Loving this version of Crowz, & so easy to install

Thank you for your kind remarks regarding Crowz. I have been polishing it up since the last release and have some corrections to Calamares.

Looking for an opportunity to upload an updated version.

Thank you!

Thank you, I thought so too. There had been new releases prior to the review on 10/7 and also some tidying up on SourceForge to remove archived releases that are no longer supported. Crowz Beowulf 32-bit i686 isos are still current and can be upgraded.

Re: Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release

I'm guessing the new versions are for the upgraded libc, which I have already done on my installs yesterday. smile

Had no idea that DistroWatch was planning to review first Crowz 5.0 release. There were a few areas I wanted to fix and I did. I was on a fix mission, but aware of the libc upgrade.

I'm hoping for Devuan to do a point release and then have a newer and much more polished Crowz.

Ron, ...my deepest and most sincere apologies. Sometimes I'm not where I should be! Have complied with your request and should had been done already. Cross referenced and identical sha256's for my last 3 uploads of 2023.10. My build archive matches the 3 downloads.

Re: Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release

How easy to use is the installer that comes with Crowz? I'm used to the refracta installer, and am a little concerned about goofing something up, as I have 2 hard drives in my rig.

Re: Crowz 5.0 Daedalus amd64 release

I found it easy to use, though I did run it as the root user from the command line, it then opens up into a graphical installer, which I think is pretty straight forward to use.

Your concern is understandable, have written over a drive I had not intended before with an installation. There is a page in the installation which is "formatting" and the intended drive can be selected. If it is all possible, isolate the other drive by disconnecting it physically for a good measure.
