How can I download and install firefox esr 52.9?
I had to purge it due to config problem, but I cannot get the version from the repository. It only shows version 60, and I need 52 due to the old-style extensions I need.
I am on amd64 ascii (stretch)
EDIT:
I am also unable to download the newer (60) version. From aptitidue, I get the error message
"http://dev.devua.org//merged ascii-security/main amd64 firefox-esr amd64 60.2.2esr-1-deb9u1 [ERROR]
404 NOT FOUND [IP: 151.101.24.204 80]"
Has there been some changes to the repos? Do I need to update sources.list?
EDIT 2:
I tried to download the package using apt-get and this is what I get:
root@black:/tmp2# apt-get download firefox-esr
Err:1 http://deb.devuan.org//merged ascii-security/main amd64 firefox-esr amd64 60.2.2esr-1~deb9u1

If you are using an older firefox - extensions available here: http://legacycollector.org/firefox-addons/

You can't find 60.2 because it's not there, and it's been gone for some time.
Run:
apt update
and try again. You should see 60.9.0esr-1~deb9u1

Thanks for the replies.
After resyncing package index, I was able to download firefox-esr 60.9, but I ended up getting the older version (esr 52.9) from mozzila archive.
I suppose there is no way to get the devuan deb package for the older version (esr 52.9) from devuan repos?.

It really isn't safe to use older browser versions. Have you considered using browsers that support legacy extensions and are still maintained with security and bug fixes? There's Pale Moon, Basilisk, and Iceweasel-UXP to choose from (and the upcoming Borealis Navigator). There are still choices out there. While it can't be said that all legacy extensions will work on them, the vast majority will.

Problem with Pale Moon, Basilisk, and Iceweasel-UXP is that they do not (or will not) support DRM - so if you already have paid services like Netflix... you are out of luck and cannot watch!! There are extensions to prevent things like Bitcoin mining for the Firefox 52.9 as well as extensions like HTTPS Everywhere that add security with very little extra workload. For more legacy extensions - skip FireFox main website and use this website instead - https://legacycollector.org/firefox-addons/index.html

As for downloading FireFox ESR - https://debian.pkgs.org/8/debian-main-a … 4.deb.html

Well, DRM used to work in Basilisk, but it currently does not. Not sure if it will again.
I would advise anyone using an old browser version to use Firejail, a sandboxing app:

Who needs DRM when there's Afdah and Popcorn Time?
LOL!
Not that I would know from experience or anything like that.

There's also SeaMonkey, and there's a deb package available for it from MX Linux.
For info on using the MX Linux repo with Devuan, see:

SeaMonkey does not support Encrypted Media Extensions and therefore cannot load the Widevine Content Decryption Module. Firefox Quantum does support Encrypted Media Extensions so I think that is your most feasible option. If you already have a paid service like Netflix - you will be unable to watch it using SeaMonkey either.

Maybe the solution is to not patronize Netflix.

That's a good example how netflix and similar services take hostages. By the way, such services runs miners on end user computers. If someone don't want third party miners the one can run virtual machine with proprietary components in guest system for netflix watching. It won't guarantee security and privacy but it's a step forward on the way of understanding the problem.
Most of people probably imagined cryptominers when i used the word "miners". However, cryptomining is datamining. Any datamining without permission of end user is wrong thing.

It doesn't matter because the OP didn't mention that as a requirement; he or she requires support for the old type of Firefox extensions. If someone also wants support for Widevine, then I recommend using Chromium, or a web browser based on Chromium such as Google Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi, etc. After all, there's nothing stopping anyone from having more than one web browser.

Let me steer this into a more general devuan topic.
When you need to roll back an update or install an older version of a package, how would you go about it?

Find the older package in /var/cache/apt/archives and install it wtih
dpkg --force-downgrade -i <package>

to install firefox 52.9 i download it from ftp and then just change the shortlinks in "favored applications" to the firefox directory i chose to install it accordingly.

for netflix it seems only google chrome is working atm on linux devuan ascii ... streaming right now thru it. chromium and firefox don't seem to function; pipelight is no more, that used to function for firefox.

This particular old package was not in the cache archive. I am guessing that's because I purged it (instead of uninstalling it) and that also removed the package from the cache as well?
Thanks for the info. Good to know how to roll back to an older package no longer available at repo.

I basically did the same - downloaded the older version tar package from mozilla archive. Are "favored apps" links the same as "preferred apps" links?

yes, i think so, it helps with making firefox 52.9 the preferred browser. sometimes it has to be adjusted manually, inside programs, but most of the times it seems to work, withouth the need of deinstalling firefox 60 esr.

" withouth the need of deinstalling firefox 60 esr"
Hm... that's a good to know. Now I can have both versions installed without conflict because the older version is outside the apt system.

You might run into conflicts with extensions. Maybe there's a way to set the second firefox to use something other than ~/.mozilla to store its files.

You must be the life of party, huh. Good that you pointed that out, though. Also, plugins at /usr/lib/mozilla would be shared, and maybe there are more shared resources..
