Nice work alphalfa, i like jwm wm, so light and configurable. Ill have to give Michael a try. Any reason behind the name or is that your given name?

@alphalpha: Took Michael's Devuan Edition for a test drive "Live" JWM, very impressed with what you have done! I got caught up in it and played around and explored, learned a few things too!
I'm guessing or assuming because haven't used polybar before is what you have in Jwm?
Thanks, will try out the other Wm's soon, great job and look forward to anything new you might be working on!
cheers

@alphalpha I also took Michael's Devuan Edition for a test drive using VirtualBox 6.0.14
On shutdown from the Jwm menu, then it just hangs.
xauth: file/home/michael/.Xauthority does not exist
Ozi
EDIT: After checking the home folder I can see that the .Xauthority is there.
I also checked the shutdown menu item in the Jwm menu file. I didn't get a message to supply the password to shutdown.

@ zephyr
hey nice to hear that i thought nobody would even try it
jwm uses its own bar, i3 and bsp use polybar

as far as i know the .Xauthority file will be created automatically when you login
the shutdown didnt work for you? i will have a look at it later today

@ Ozi
I am not familiar with virtualbox and i dont see why it wont show
what happens if you enter the password (root) and enter?
The shutdown option in the rofi launcher should work tho

Hi...
Just for your information - I maintain a set of minimal patches to strip pulseaudio and libsystemd from a number of packages I use. You can find the packages (binaries and sources) under http://www.saar.de/~aw/debloatian/.

Plentyn . . . Why don't you make these packages available in git.devuan.org?

Hi Michaels,
Thanks for your continuous efforts to release the update every month.
I noticed the Oct. issue was very strange with very tiny size of 13.5MB.
Could you confirm if it is the right one? And kindly add how to install via your Michaels installer as well for me or for us. I have been downloading almost for all update but I have never been succeeding to finish the installation but failing after typing "/dev/sda".
Another thanks!

Hey Yohno !
nice to hear, since i get almost no feedback i was thinking that no one is trying it
I noticed the Oct. issue was very strange with very tiny size of 13.5MB
i just checked and it says 2.5GB on sourceforge
maybe you tried to download on the day i was uploading, i lost the connection and had to reupload
And kindly add how to install via your Michaels installer as well for me or for us.
use the arrow keys to navigate up and down in the menu, press enter (or right arrow) to select something and q (or left arrow) to go back
the blinking cursor indicates required input
under "system settings" you should edit the hostname and keyboard layout (i set the default to german)
under "user account settings" you should change the user name
when you are done configuring hit "start installation"
did you get any error message or explain in more detail how it failed?
maybe i will manage to make a tutorial video this weekend
greetings, michael

i am not sure why, but the forum tells me i dont have permission to edit my original post
just wanted to add some updates
i didn't post anything in the last months but that does not mean i did not make any changes on the distro
finally found a good chess program with a live evaluation graph (cutechess)
added sound effects that can be launched with shift + F-keys
added sound for login and if usb devices are plugged in
added new scripts and improved the old ones (the kernel compiler script can now download and compile the linux libre kernel)
added the olive video editor and some small packages
and more

michael,
Thanks for your reply. Actually no error message was generated. Repeating to get the same result without any message.
I think I did as you instructed but I might be wrong since your installer is different.
I just confirmed your update is only Oct. issue. When I had checked, I saw two versions with Sept issue there.
I prefer to have your video or the written procedure with picture if you have a time. Then you would have the more customers for your distro hopefully. Cheers!

just uploaded a video on how to use the installer
https://lbry.tv/@alphalpha:d/installer-tutorial:9
in case you still have problems, try it with the --debug option and tell me the last thing it displays before it fails

Thanks, Michaels or alphalpha,
I checked the video you provided and changed the way for the installation.
I specified the boot partition of 200MB under legacy/extlinux instead of legacy/grub then everything was smooth. I had been installing without boot partition under legacy/grub. No success without boot partition under legacy/exlinux. That's why I could not make it.
After re-boot, the default keyboard was german instead of what I selected in installation so I needed press z for "y".
After login, the keyboard setting was OK under the proper localization of the system. Lots of stuff are pre-installed.
Keep up your good work!

Thanks for the feedback
i will try to fix that in the next release

I am happy to announce that the problem that yohno had is now fixed.
Grub now installs correctly with or without seperate boot and in UEFI and Legacy.
I made massive changes to the installer and fixed a lot of things,
also added some more checks to make sure everything is set up correctly before the install function starts.
Also qutebrowser no longer uses the relative old version from the devuan repository,
but the latest release from github. A script is available to check and download the most recent release.
The iso file hase just been uploaded to sourceforge

Absolutely wonderful disro, I admire your individualistic tastes and customizations, they are great. I had a slight problem with the installer, it didn't quite complete, but I love your jwm very much.

Thank pymd !
There is an updated version of the installer available on sourceforge below the iso download,
which has to be added by hand into the ~/.local/Scripts directory
But i just noticed yesterday that there still is a problem, if you chose grub, it will maybe complain about a gpt partition table even if there is none
i will fix that with the next release, for now, the workaround is to press the left arrow key if this message appears and the installation will proceed

Hello alphalpha,
I have tried several times do download the iso image, unsuccessfully.
The download terminated after some 50-100mb downloaded..

Vesiosion 2020_12 is uploaded!
*turns out i forgot to 'chmod +x' the new shotcut appimage so if you want to try that you have to make it executable
chmod +x ~/.local/opt/shotcut/shotcut-linux-x86_64-201031.AppImage

I can only get a partial file if I try to download it with wget, even with '-c' on repeated attempts. It downloads a few hundred MB and then stalls saying "HTTP request sent, awaiting response..." That's the first time I've run into this problem on sourceforge.
I finally tried it from the browser and got the whole thing.
It boots in qemu. Nice work. I like that first menu with WM choices and settings. Good idea.

hello alphalpha,
I downloaded the iso, tested it, and its awesome!
I tested the 11 version..
the initial menu is very nice,
The way you created grouping and theming things up is fantastic man..
I which there was a live media installable and with some 600-700mb size..
Amazing work!
Now I am trying to download the 12 in browser, and I receive: "503 Service Unavailable"
EDIT: Wait.. a F5 tried again and its downloading

i still have not figured out why the download is not working sometimes,
maybe i should upload somewhere else, but at the moment i am not sure where
i wish i had fast internet so i could just seed a torrent all the time
hello alphalpha,
I which there was a live media installable and with some 600-700mb size..
i actually tried to get below 700mb when i made the first aplha version, but i could not get anywhere near that with the programs i wanted to be on the iso
however you can take the stuff you like, throw it on the minimal devuan iso, make your own snapshot and see how small or big it gets
