[Discussed] Documentation Section

Hi

I tried to google, but didnt quite get some things like:

1. Documentation
2. Wiki
3. Handbook

except for:
https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=1499

It shall be really kind of the admins of this forum to include these three sections under the Documentation, even as under construction or under edit (pointing to existing debian ones) or let the forum users contribute. I dont assume that it may be an overload for this website.

Just a suggestion...

Thankyou

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting or what you tried to google.  FluxBB does not have sub-forum capability.  There is already cross-seeding between this forum and the the Friends of Devuan wiki.  And as yet there is no Devuan Handbook.

Hi

I am suggesting to have these sub sections, in text format, in the Documents section, along with how tos:

1. Documentation
2. Wiki
3. Handbook
4. How tos

where members can contribute to devuan.

Thanks

Edit 1: Adding the name feature would be fun to use, if the forum admin allows. I hope server can manage some more space.

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

The wiki and handbook (manual) are being developed at friendsofdevuan.org.  There is no need to duplicate on this forum.

Apart from that . . . All those items are forms of documentation so the list is not logically constructed.

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

A link to the wiki should be added to the announcement post that was linked above.

I don't think the documentation section needs to be broken into categories. Maybe later.

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

A dedicated how-to section would be useful though IMO, there's already some scattered about on the forum, and I have a couple that i'd like to add but sometimes it's difficult to figure out where to put them.

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

Howtos are supposed to go in the Documentation section. It even says so.

How-tos and Tips & Tricks contributed by Devuan users

There isn't much official documentation yet, but I think the idea was that some of the howtos might develop into official docs.

Okay, will do that then, hey while you're here, will you take a look at the question i just posted on IRC? Any insights greatly appreciated!

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

Hi

I assume; more than 60% would be a mere copy paste of debian jessie for stable.

For ascii, I cannot say, as the kernel has not yet been finalized, perhaps it will be 4.14 LTS ...

Thankyou

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

The ascii kernel version was finalized when stretch went into freeze. I think that was around a year ago. But your point about the documentation is spot on. Most of the debian documentation applies to devuan. (Except the systemd stuff). And even wheezy docs are mostly accurate for devuan jessie.

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

I posted some documentation in this thread which should give you an idea of the number of devuan packages vs debian.  Please correct if there are errors.

Right now Debian documentation and wiki are going slow, and not updated, even with 9.2 release.

2. It means that each Devuan will be actually following the release of each Debian, with same kernel version and packages, as is?

Thankyou

Re: [Discussed] Documentation Section

Yes, devuan is following debian releases. Most of the packages in devuan are unchanged from debian. The plan is to change as little as possible to provide a debian-based system without systemd.
