not sure if this is the right repo,
but used something like this in the past to achieve the effect of disabling suspend during playback of video via mpv
https://git.sr.ht/~anteater/mpv-inhibit-suspend
it is not for disabling screensaver, but could have the same effect. now on kde there it can be effected easily in tray, just activate @presentation mode<
similarly, on mate, i use sometimes @caffeine to inhibit sleep bevaviour.
you could test this with
setxkbmap in -variant engthen pressing
Alt-GRand
4evokes
rupee
symbol, but this is on a
italian
keyboard, dont know if this makes any difference.
@clueless, if you using ZFS, might readily be more advanced in the computing then me here;
however, the GT 730 according to Techpowerup conly hdmii 1.3a, so you might not fare well with 4k;
even the GT 710 has hdmi 1.4; and might be luckier for higher resolution, but that might also be wrong info on the side of techpowerup (/which happens sometimes)
have checked again, and found that the devuan box mentioned has the proper driver installed; but don't asked how it is done; it is elaborated probably only thanks to this post from user in southern france, that shared the respective kernel patch or something.
happy landing on devuan.
Upgrade snetaid again
would not be able to achieve it ~ tried the expoert mode twice , once with 3 options clicked; second time with not additional options;
the install would seem to go through flawlessly, but apparently somehting went wrong, since could net effectuate basic operations like "sudo ifup" "sudo ifdown" "dhclient" etc. so second time i checked and there was maybe just 50 mb for the whole disc occupied;
~ tried to install packages then from with sources #usb-stick - but that would fail miserably;
since have again used the normal text-installer to install distro anew and with the psmouse trick it would now function;
have noticed that the laptop could also have trouble with wake from "lock screen" - maybe the system is as whole a bit too advanced for the older laptop and might have more stable system with plain devuan ~ but i'd be glad to test some more since i really like the system, it is very responsive, thanks.
used this software when i had problems installing scanner on linux; getting to function.
it is good for testing purpoese, but leaves a watermark.
(needs to be paid for full-version)
for the graphics driver nvidia,
think there is way to get it function on debian13/cdevuan6 for your card mentioned, atleast had so once if not mistaken, but it is a bit difficult , involves some workaround; think you could find info on net; at the moment i am using the gt 710 on another computer just with open-source driven, it function ok.
here is info on how to https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comment … rivers_on/
for amdgpu it is not officiially supported on debian (yet) but for some newer cards there is rocm support (debian), so it could function also on devuan. for older card, you will find better route just using the card as it is (like r5 430), if you strictly need opencl or such, you might find ways to enable it (there is also onoging effort for newer thing like rusticl or something, but there are other people here more knowledgeable on such matters that might advise you.
if you use a high-end monitor or 4k, then the gt 730 might be lacking with nouveau, but i just office 16:10 1680x1050, and it function well enough; but the driver part can be installed, if you strictly need to (as discussed in relevant forumposts, with instructions).

[aio]
would like to thank for this distro, it seems a very promising.
like on first contact.
if you dont mind please the following "bugreport" on tried and tested laptop T420.
1. used latest excalibur with xfce4 iso
2. text install (not-expert)
3. install and first-boot-fine - xfce4 asking for (desktop-icon-layout) upon entrie into GUI
4. installing updates - after updates reboot -
5. unfortunately after reboot the touchpad and pointing stick no longer respond.
(maybe you can see the error from screenshot)
tried also with expoert - install - it seems function, but then i get no wired-connection (disconnected) , maybe did something wrong.

edit> with LXDE the same happen, maybe it is only peculiar to the laptop, however, upon first boot *befor upgrade the touchpad-pointing stick function<
noticed there is error msg upon booting like @failed to create CE channel -22
edit2> seemto have found solution here https://computingforgeeks.com/fix-touch … ues-linux/
sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe psmousebrings touchpad&point stick back, to make permanent, edit
/etc/rc.localand add
modprobe -r psmouse
modprobe psmouse

(click X on right if no account)
you could find some info here if you want to use "ventoy"
https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=8124
also would suggest you cpiöd do yourselves a favour and use an ethernet cable (atleast) for a more stable first-installation ~
good luck.
edit: if you have a dvd-r(w) laying around, yoiuu could master the iso onto it; that works best in my experience, specially with excalbiure. (am repeating myself)
hello , please forgive te hijack,
took the liberty to look up the sources.list ,
could you please tell me if this is ok for the laptop or if i should remove some of those lines (there seem to be 3 different distro involved)

it would be nice if ther is option to readout the whole booting process onto .log file,
since am encountering also lots of messages during startup that are not easy to decipher.
using newer computer.
maybe got already advised so, but please show the proper handling.
@chris2be8 ,
if you are interested, created a post over in the apposite forum to hihglight the issue,
to some degree, running in background is "desired" behaviour for the "client" since this program , when installed via "deb" is running in background after startup even before login-user, so i might have created a whole lot of noise for little bit noghting.
https://forum.foldingathome.org/viewtop … 77#p374677
old adagios still holdeth true:
those loudesth shoutesth, seldom the brightesth.
thank you both,
used cinnamon in before, but droppoed to mate loosely; kinda like it (always like debian squeeze, my favorite probably).
nowe, the issue is also with cinnamon DE, so it is probably related to this "lightdm" think or similar; am not too knowledgeable in these things, there are quite some actors involved.
logging-off user does not stop the script, that is the issue.
to me, this seems unacceptable. (but again, since script was probably made with "systemctl" in mind, maybe , but just maybe, it is due to that).
had this problem today that i nedded/wanted to install packages from devuan repository via recovery-mode
but was surprised that the recovery-mode did not find any network connection;
since i knew of this trick here, wanted to remedy via
dhclient eth0only to find out that dhclient is not/no longer included by default (it seems even abandoned according to linked post above).
however, it would be very good if it could be included by default as paackage in devuan-netinstall and iso. to allow for exactly such situations to easily be mended.
my proposal hence to include the package that includes dhclient into devuan.iso for failsafe & debug network issues.
isc-dhcp-clientis the package in question.
thank you very much.
there seem to be one such mentiuon on github (however, not caja related)
https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-se … issues/165
(not sure if lightdm is involved in devuan 6.0 standard with mate-desktop, though)
actually , idont know what the program is doing in the background, aside from apparently computeing;
but if it "survives" a logout, that isn*t a good sign, somehow, sisuppose.
makes one think of running task in background where actually the computer should sit quite still;
such continiuty features, if not advertised, are absolutely unwanted, at least in my book.
but possibly, sinceh the compile has just been matched up (it is supposed to run on "systemd" systems), maybe it got botched to some degree since did only lwave awasy "libsystemd-dev" and the rest is as planned for those OS;
but apart this flaw, it seem to function fine;
or, the mate-desktop has more flaws, than one might expect (the big one seems to be the caja-filemanager).
Hello ,
please forgive another suspicious post ]
but maybe someone of you can relate and offer an explanation ~
now this eems a recent behaviour,
but maybe not
was running a program in terminal, (not via sudo or the like)
and effecting "log-out"
only to "log-in" but under the same user-name to find out that the program apparently was still running.
(was blocking the resource trying to access again)
effectively until reboot.
anomalie two:
noticed that firefox someimes dows downloads, but not finishes them, (they remain unfinished in download window, and the sand-time-clock is still running)
(even after closing and reopening firefox) (the download still hangs) (no way to "close" download =)Z> effectively unless reboot.
well, i am not used to such behaviour on computer, so it kept me puyyzzled.
well, must have gooten it all wrong, sorry for the previous post;
tried again today:
with ventoy-linux (./VentoyGUI.x86_64) the netinstall went through with both MBR and GPT
with ventoy-windows (Ventoy2Disk) the netinstall went through with MBR and NOT with GPT!
if i used GPT (via Ventoy2Disk), receive the same error you posted earliert
"Incorrect installation media detected"
"The detected media cannot be used for installation."
so i suggest you try again format with Ventoy and let use partition Style "MBR" which is standard setting for Ventoy.
that should work.
if you still have doubts, you can press "del" for enter bIOS , and then "F5" or similar for default settings, press "F10" for savings setting, that should settle it for you.
Good luck.
Edit: if you really want to use ventoy, then there is option "partition style" in VentoyMenu > it should be set to "GPT" for coexistance with Win11 i suppose; have checked this just yet, on linux there exist such option. otherwise, with standard-setting "MBR" you run into conflict, most probably. but windows-ventoy might handle it differently. just a warning.
Edit2: just tested this with excalibur.netinstall-iso. with ventoy:
when using standard settings (mbr) > it would fail exactly at the point you described;
when formatting with partition style (gpt) > the netinstall would process, you could proceed.
please disregard the upper portion with "default settings" then; you should set most probably BIOS as described earlier, with SecureBoot (ON or OFF) and if (ON) with "Custom" setting; or the like.
yeah, might check aout that.
in the meantime , have still strange tidings with upgrades.
now it says "upgrading" , but actually wants to remove it.
(nala removes it straight away; apt-upgrade upgrade first, but says it no longer needed?)
sudo apt upgrade

well, i remember my first "suite" °netscape navigator° since then been fond ot it, now it takes two for the tango, and even 1 application alone able to bring the computer to a crawl (thunderbird or firefox, you pick) - seamonkey or iceape would still be favorite, but they are not doing everything, always, sometimes are blocked either, but digress.
my office capabilities stalled long time ago; will see if can catch up to latest advancements. maybe not even needed, after all.
rubbish never comes for free.
have preferred the "openoffice" over the libreoffice, but have to admit that the libreoffice has progressed some more and is more advanced;
if you want better performance , you could always try install openoffice next to it and see if you like to differentiate.
there are guides no how to install them completely in parallel, that should still function , too, via the .debs (complete, with menu-integration).
as handy as rufus can be , it has issues with linux.iso sometimes, no doubt (if you have set to "MBR" > you need to make afterwards to boot from "UEFI" , someimes it nned to load to download from internet addtiional syslinux etc); ventoy should format for you the usb-stick, no questions asked, but if you have a strange usb-stick, you could always prepare it first via (diskpart > list disk > select disk > clean) just to make sure that ventoy has no trouble formatting;
but if you dont have a DVD drive ad your disposal (which would be a pity for a new computer, of course), you could also use "rpi-imager" or balena etcher, as suggested, and it should get you there. rpi-imager has helped me out where others (also baledna) have failed.
if you have the proper BIOS setting in place, a DVD is the best bet, period. it is slower, takes sometimes long to load, but is quite impeccable for desired usecase.
edit> since have similar similar mainboard (b450m, msi-click-bios) took the freedom to lookup the setting (have windows 11, devuan 6, [ubuntu+] installed) Z here under Windoes OS Configuration ~ {UEFI} ~ {SecureBoot}[Enabled] ~ {SecureBootMode}[Custom]
excalibur is picky, you could try a dvd (burn .netinstall or full-iso to dvd) + be amazed.
it should function.
