Thank you, Delgado
I downloaded the excalibur version of plank and tried to install it. It threw me some errors caused by dependency problems with incompatible libraries. (Gdebi)
Is there a chance of getting the plank package in Freia too?
It's possibly too early to ask, but someone might know.
Plank was present as a package in Excalibur.
Thanks
Good morning,
I have just tested the new desktop-live iso
https://files.devuan.org/devuan_freia/d … p-live.iso
and it works well, no hick-ups and no glitches so far.
Tested on a Dell Optiplex GX780 in full BIOS/MBR (legacy) mode.
BTW: The first time I got a well working system from the Devuan live installer. Though I'm rarely using the XFCE desktop.
Congratulations to you for your good work.
Looking forward to test the version with the net-installer.

Hello all,
I'm deeply sorry to have created such a stir. My fault: it was a bad USB stick which I thought to be trustworthy.
The system boots fine with a new stick.
I will test fsmithred's new live iso soon and report back.
As of the wrong release notes: I saw this in my tests this summer: it's a preview, a test-release though.
Thank you all for your good work.
Have a nice evening.
dd to a USB stick for both ISO-image files , both machines in BIOS/Legacy mode.
The Dell Optiplex worked with the May-netinstall iso of freia.
Hello fsmithred
sorry to say:
your new live image cycles through devuan live boot menu endlessly (after a few secs after every possible selection)
(Did check sha256sum of course)
Computer 1: HP EliteBook 8460p
Computer 2: Dell Optiplex 780
I also tested the netinstall-iso with the same date on both computers.
devuan_freia_7.0-202610311659_amd64_netinstall.iso
it greets me before any boot-menu with:
fails to load com32.....
endlessly
Both computers did work with an older freia net-install.iso from May..
Have you checked by swapping the connections from your kvm switch to the 2 computers? It may be a flimsy contact or cable.
Completely agree with blackhole.
I only had bad experiences with nvidia cards. The nouveau driver works reasonably well, if not get rid the nvidia card.
It's not only the complicated use of these cards, but in my cases they caused intermittent system crashes, mostly at boot times and were not re-producible, in otherwise perfectly working hardware. Trying to search in the log-files: Hahaha
I'm very happy with Cinnamon, but I like XFCE too.
You could post you screen-dumps or image files here:
https://postimages.org/
and insert the link to your contribution here in the forum.
Good luck
simple scan = Document Scanner
as it is called in the DE (Cinnamon)
(mentioned in post #2)
In "Document Scanner" you can change the resolution to your liking. Try that.
I use Document Scanner, version 46.0
Xsane should do the same, just explore it.
Linux Devuan Excalibur & Cinnamon Desktop.
Here comes another "inconsistency" of another package- and patch-mirror:
The repository ch.deb.devuan.org is no longer working, since a few days ago - at all.
Before that, a re-issuing the apt update / apt upgrade command solved the thing momentarily.
I did switch to de.deb.devuan.org and this works well.
andre@sapporo:~$ sudo apt update

Whom must I send this message to?
Have a good day,

Devuan gave us a choice back: to have decent init systems. I thank them for that.
Anyone who knows what UNIX was, from the beginning to the end, can only appreciate a decent, well developed and transparent init system.
Sysvinit is certainly one of them. There are multiple init programs around now, and some of them are good as well. I mostly work with OpenRC, but I'm happy to come back to sysvinit for some cases.
Long live these rock-solid solutions, and a great thank-you to Devuan to have freed us from systemd and given us choices back. Right, why should anyone want to eliminate foundation-stones like vi, emacs, sh / bash, sysvinit, C, C++ etc?
Cool, bravo, that looks great!
Chapeau, Monsieur Greenjeans!
Mostly yes.
If you do the status command as indicated by fsmithred, you will know.
Holds true usually for sysvinit and openrc.
Good news:
Devuan Freia just test-installed (Freia-Cinnamon-OpenRC) and checked: it's fixed.
The missing file in question is here, out-of-the box. Bravo Devuan, packagers, maintainers and contributors!
Installed iso: devuan_freia_7.0-202605091913_amd64_netinstall.iso
dpkg -l | grep -i network-manager
ii network-manager 1.56.1-1devuan1 amd64 network management framework (daemon and userspace tools)
ii network-manager-l10n 1.56.1-1devuan1 all network management framework (translation files)
ii network-manager-tui 1.56.1-1devuan1 amd64 NetworkManager curses-based UINFS mounts in /etc/fstab: works!!
For Devuan Excalibur, steve-v's workaround will solve the problem.
I will add my next donation, I would do so anyway.
That's correct, I tested the latest excalibur installer iso (6.1.1) and Networkmanager is still not patched. Your proposed workaround is still valid and fine.

Interesting.
I always had success by connecting a PC (or STB) directly to a "smart"-TV (HDMI or DVI-HDMI) and use that TV as a monitor (display) only. To avoid data harvesting, ad-floods etc just don't connect a network to the TV, and no antenna/cable connection.
I'm not sure about that CEC thing, I had to disable that feature because here my SamsungTV-MarantzAVR interaction didn't work well with CEC.
Your PC can handle all these TV- and Internet-tasks, can't it?
Hello,
can it be that you selected deb.devuan.org and not es.deb.devuan.org?
If so, there is a fair chance that the selection of deb.devuan.org did not work and the installer assumed "no network mirror available" and hence installed from CDROM instead.
The cause is often that some ISPs and their DNS infrastructure cannot deal with that kind of round-robin DNS name resolution.
It's an old topic here. Always select the mirror address that has your country's name prepended like es.deb.devuan.org.
I hope it helps.
md:

md supports RAID levels 1 (mirroring), 4 (striped array with parity de‐
vice), 5 (striped array with distributed parity information), 6

which is the base to create software-arrays (kernel)
LVM2: is very useful to make an abstraction of disk-space to rend volumes flexible.
Both work best together.
I use that on servers (Devuan 5 Daedalus) and it still exists the same way in Devuan 6 Excalibur.
As it exists in most Linux distros, btw.
The manual pages are very instructive.
@supusr:
Your printer Brother MFC-L2690DW is in the "driverless printer list" and can print using AirPrint.
When I have such a printer to connect:
- Connect it to your local network
- Make sure CUPS is fully installed
- Start everything
- And at log-in (Cinnamon) "Printer Connected" shows up.
Until now, this has worked with all Brother and most HP, Lexmark and other printer brands.
Maybe this helps: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=60751#p60751
And this: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=58428#p58428
And sure this: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=57101#p57101
That goes for Devuan Daedalus, Excalibur
I use OpenRC or sysvinit and Cinnamon or XFCE
I never have to worry about printers again. Good luck.
Totally agree ![]()
@greenjeans
you are a very valued member of that community and I (and surely many others) appreciate what you do. Bravo.
Please don't let you intimidate by ranters and those who like to play the judge to chide others.
You are a contributor, thank you.
Do the same as I do to get the nerves calm again: play music. You the guitar, I play the piano. Sweet melodies!
All what's said is correct.
One additional point:
If you want to manager printers as "user", this "user" has to be added to the lpadmin group.
If needed, you can extract the ppd file from a driver package, preferably from X86-64. But I've always found the driver CUPS proposes works well. Mostly I have to add no other software to make it work.
Good luck.
