#1 Re: Off-topic » word is that flatpak 2.0 WILL depend on systemd » 2026-05-27 00:19:51

@EDX-0

Sounds like the garbage mentality is going to work...

Redhat devs... corporate linux devs...

One word:

Starts with A

means butthole.

*sigh*

#2 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Please, reccommend me a display-manager that isn't garbage » 2026-05-20 20:51:01

@greenjeans also screw redhat above that x1000 for infecting linux with all sorts of bloated frameworks that no one should want or need. tongue

#3 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Please, reccommend me a display-manager that isn't garbage » 2026-05-20 18:49:12

@steve_v i have used console-tdm though and it worked for Hyperbola. The only reason I stopped using it was that I decided to use startx and then sx which is even more minimal

There are forks of console-tdm on github I think though and other such things similar.

I recommend looking in github for what you want.

And yes, screw wayland big_smile

#4 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Please, reccommend me a display-manager that isn't garbage » 2026-05-18 02:14:11

depends what you consider garbage.

I consider minimal yet easy to use to be non-garbage which if so would mean console-tdm which isn't in debian repos to my knowledge.

But if you mean easy and user friendly, something like lxdm or lightdm or slim might fit.

Depends on which works best right now.

I honestly have no clue. Stuff breaks sometimes with upgrades in annoying yet minor ways.

I have however had no problem with lxdm usually and sometimes slim is good.

#5 Re: DIY » How to swap out sound cards at will, » 2026-05-17 19:17:37

@greenjeans Well I wonder how much of it I am supposed to use then.

Btw, at present my .asoundrc says this:

pcm.!default {
        type sndio
}

I wonder if its possible to enable both cards at the same time.  It would be peculiar though.

#6 Re: DIY » How to swap out sound cards at will, » 2026-05-16 22:13:23

@fsmithred sadly then I can't use it then.

I already can do that with a reboot.

I just plug in the usb audio in first and then it naturally loads when I boot up.

Want to do it without rebooting aka the swap.

#7 Re: DIY » How to swap out sound cards at will, » 2026-05-16 22:11:44

What should I call this and where should I put it?

#8 Re: DIY » How to swap out sound cards at will, » 2026-05-16 17:50:57

@ralph.ronnquist

Not sure what you mean by that refer element.

just sayin

EDIT:

I tried what he suggested and something didn't work, I don't know why.

EDIT: again, I see what happened.

I should mention my previous setup here. It also uses sndio as well and alsa-sndio:

#
# ALSA
#

# ALSA settings by default
defaults.ctl.card 0
defaults.pcm.card 0
defaults.pcm.device 0
defaults.pcm.subdevice -1
defaults.rawmidi.card 0
defaults.rawmidi.device 0
defaults.rawmidi.subdevice -1
defaults.hwdep.card 0
defaults.hwdep.device 0
defaults.timer.card 0
defaults.timer.device 0
defaults.timer.subdevice 0

#
# sndio on ALSA (alsa-sndio)
#

# Uncomment it to use sndio sound server on PCM (this requires alsa-sndio)
pcm.default sndio

# sndio PCM settings by default
defaults.pcm.sndio.device snd/0
defaults.pcm.sndio.volume 127
#defaults.pcm.sndio.playback.device snd/0
#defaults.pcm.sndio.playback.volume 127
#defaults.pcm.sndio.capture.device snd/0

# Uncomment it to use sndio sound server on RawMIDI (this requires alsa-sndio)
#rawmidi.default sndio

# sndio RawMIDI settings by default
defaults.rawmidi.sndio.device midi/0

I need all of this to stay there probably.

and the 0s to switch to 1s probably.

In this setup I notice 0 is the one that plays and 1 is the one tat doesn't.

Whichever is set to sound card 0 in alsamixer is the one that plays. If this helps let me know.

#9 Re: DIY » How to swap out sound cards at will, » 2026-05-15 19:42:28

@fsmithred does this let you swap out a card whenever and also what should I call file? And where should I put it.

I want to know how to do this to use usb audio and without the following:

anything related to pulseaudio, pipewire, or other obnoxious linux frameworks.

alsa fine though.

#11 Re: Freedom Hacks » Chasing the Fox (Caccia alla volpe) » 2026-05-05 03:13:41

interesting, so what would you have to do to get it running with sndio?

I am very curious.

Also, what is required specifically to get it working on the above?

I am a bit confused

#12 Re: Devuan » Age Verification » 2026-05-04 04:13:08

@ron blackhole is right, there is no left in the US.

If you want socialist, go to European countries like Sweden or Denmark

#13 Re: Devuan » Age Verification » 2026-05-03 04:26:05

@golinux they won't be satisfied it seems till we have zero freedom of any kind.

I think this is why some people on mastodon, say "Eat the rich"

Or think violence is needed to deal with them.

It no doubt is the wrong way, but I wonder if there is even a right way at this point.

This disturbs me greatly.

#14 Re: Devuan Derivatives » GENUEN starting GUI » 2026-05-03 04:24:02

There's also something Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre devs found called sx

It does what startx does but is even more minimal and I have used it, no issues once its all set up. Then you just copy paste a backup in case when you reinstall your os, etc...

#15 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Viber Desktop asks for e new setup on every reboot. » 2026-04-26 04:17:31

@nx22 you beat me to it, but yeah, was going to say that appimages don't require systemd.

i don't think flatpaks do either but snaps who knows.

@blackhole @goat

I have to agree it probably is...

#17 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » GTK2 Revival thread » 2026-04-21 19:06:24

If I run into any when using it.

But I tend not to use gtk2 as much on my devuan install, except maybe for palemoon.

For whatever reason, I used to not have this problem, but now every time I suspend for a certain length, probably an hour or more...

I can no longer press power or function key to get it to come back online on my T480.

I end up having to shut down the computer by force. Really... really annoying.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I am 100% stumped.

I wonder if this is a libreboot issue or a T480 issue.

My guess is probably the first, but I don't know what specifically would cause this.

#19 Re: Off-topic » GTK2 Removed from Arch's Repositories » 2026-04-20 01:39:24

@golinux actually redhat also kills freedom. They are where the biggest bs comes from.

wayland, systemd, dbus, avahi, elogind, pulseaudio, pipewire, network-manager and probably others too.

I detest corporations especially redhat.

I am sure most people here, including myself use corporate hardware, but there is no reason to use corporate software when you don't need to.

big_smile

#20 Re: Devuan » Devuan completely without systemd? » 2026-04-20 01:36:01

@ralph.ronnquist it is kind of like preaching to the choir...

#21 Re: Devuan » Age Verification » 2026-04-16 03:35:01

@Elyon hopefully not... I refuse to eat shit.

#22 Re: Off-topic » Something X11ish for you all to look at. » 2026-03-30 04:44:36

@brocashelm

I made an issue on xlibre anyhow since I posted this for xlibre to add unveil & pledge functions to xlibre like xenocara has but with linux.

We will see how that goes I guess.

But yeah, point being, you might have a point.

EDIT accidentally clicked solved, but w/e it doesn't matter too much.

#23 Re: Devuan » Age Verification » 2026-03-28 01:44:55

@slonik good to know, I won't recommend CachyOS to anyone now.

This law will likely make kids more targetted not less.

Screw Zuckerberg for this and anyone who supports his bs.

#24 Re: Off-topic » What other distro are you using (besides devuan)? » 2026-03-18 02:39:07

Still using Hyperbola on some of my comps and Devuan on my gaming one

#25 Re: DIY » SHED init independient/agnostic user services » 2026-03-10 21:27:16

@EDX-0

My bad, I was unaware  that it didn't require elogind.

By xession manager what do you mean?

like lxsession? or xlibre/xorg/etc...

Curious
