@dimonic . . . all links in the first post of this thread and elsewhere on this forum are "live". If there is something that you think requires extensive "conversation", You can start a new thread in the appropriate section (probably not Announcements). If you just want to comment, drop it here. If it turns into a "thing" I can split off to a separate thread. Keep in mind that this is a forum not a wiki. Users may post documentation but it is ephemeral and will likely become outdated in time.
@inukaze . . . I'm curious how you got auto.mirror repos on an ascii install. deb.devuan.org is the default repo in ascii which mirrors pkgmaster.devuan.org
Please have a look at https://devuan.org/os/etc/apt/sources.list
I'm disturbed that GitLab is on that list.
FYI . . . the Devuan team is looking at alternative options to gitlab.
@dimonic . . . please make your suggestions by responding to the threads/posts you think need to be improved.
What to do in the meantime? How to keep it going while the systemd "virus" spreads?
Well, talking and wishing and philosophizing won't get the job done. That takes committed volunteers willing to do the work. Unfortunately, end users and outsiders have lots of ideas/demands but rarely lift a finger to make them a reality.
@cynwulf . . . You are and have always been welcome here but the drama is a bit of a buzzkill.
* edit: Just noticed my 1500th post which of course is dedicated to cynwulf

@Panopticon . . . you have undertaken a Sisyphean task. This thread could continue with 100 posts of repetitive arguments, nothing will change and I guarantee you will never get the last word. As tempting as the bait is, the only off button is silence.
I'm out of ideas. Maybe take your question to the Xfce forum. They are friendly and knowledgeable and have solved issues for me more than once.
Did you try reducing the saturation on your screen a bit?
Do you have grayscale or rgb antialiasing when none order selected?
All the options are rgb. But setting it to "none" avoids hints of color here.
I have never seen that on my screen but I do see some bleeding on screenshots with strong contrasting colors. In Settings > Appearance > Fonts, I have Enable anti-aliasing checked, Hinting: slight and Sub-pixel order none. Default font is set to Open Sans Semibold. But then I have a really nice Dell IPS monitor. Maybe reducing the saturation on your screen would help and reduce brightness a bit - I work at 70%.
You should get some more sleep and spend less time on forums like this one.
If you actually used Devuan or contributed anything substantial my ears might perk up because then you'd have a point of reference from which to critique. I think you just come here when you're bored or having a bad day .
Footnote: cynwulf and I have a long and mostly amicable history so I know who I am chiding. ![]()
(golinux yawns)
The bad news: still no Consolekit.
These packages may or may not be relevant but . . . I leave it to you to sort . . .
Have you tried adjusting the acceleration/sensitivity of your mouse in Mouse and Touchpad from the main Applications menu?
Have you seen this thread? There is a solution. Can't remember whether it's in that thread or elsewhere on this forum. Sorry . . . not willing to go treasure hunting atm. ![]()
No...it's simply a basic YAD script...that I'm going to have to change since consolekit apparently will no longer be available beginning in beowulf.

Isn't there consolekit2. There has been recent discussion. and also there are consolekit related packages in beowulf:
libpolkit-backend-1-0-consolekit
libpolkit-gobject-1-0-consolekit
etc.
You should probably be on the ML.
@Miyo . . . maybe you can put together a gimp team to keep the older version compatible with newer Devuan releases. I do not use gimp often - still do a lot of work on PS7 LOLOL!!!! But I do use it for specific tasks on occasion - like converting png to xpm - and would not be happy to see those functions disappear.
This is not good news. It might be easy enough to just keep an older version in the repos if the dependencies are compatible. If not, the task of sorting things out would fall to impacted users because the Devuan devs have their hands full and just don't have time to fix applications in user-space that take a wrong turn. Would you be willing to maintain and package Gimp 2.8.x for beowulf and future Devuan releases?
Did you not see this in KatolaZ post above yours?
Also, the only way to submit bug reports to bugs.devuan.org is via email, so you need a working email account.
Try this method.
Maybe the last unavoidable systemd packages can be renamed to fake-$originalname_*.deb to make clear that they are harmless? Via provides $originalname dependices could be satisfied.
Would that possibly reduce the iterating questions about systemd pieces still present in Devuan?
Sadly, there are just not enough hands on deck to do the repackaging and long term maintainence. Any volunteers out there?
(golinux hears the sound of silence)
Yes, I did first thing. That is why I deleted the (other) systemd folders and files; they should not have mattered to the os. However when the systemd folder in /run got recreated on reboot, I got kind of concerned. Moreso, when I could not chattr +i that empty folder to immutable. I know I can just reinstall and pay more attention, but there is little learning in that.
I wish we had a workshop of magic elves to remove those unnecessary systemd files but alas . . .
Thanks for all your trouble for me.
Best regards,
Bob
No problem. No trouble.
Really nice to see you back!
There are a lot of LOLOLs going on here. We're a happy bunch . . . ![]()
