What's with all the wife jokes . . . ? How about some husband jokes for balance?
I do not think libsystemd0 is harmful
Yes, it is just an annoyance but removing it would be wasted effort for no benefit. That's why it may still present in Devuan.
but I seem to be unable to have it, as holding it when installed would not allow installing these packages (well, dummy-elogind allowed some of them, but not all).
Unless something has changed, there is no need to have libsystemd0 present in Devuan.
There are extensive discussions on the DNG mail list. The takeaway (if I understand it correctly) is that unless we have a huge influx of devs to fork the necessary packages, usrmerge will be unavoidable. Read and draw your own conclusions.
This this forum post titled Why are systemd files present in Devuan? will help you understand that those files that are bothering you are harmless and necessary. Note that I posted that statement but did not write it. Take care . . .
@stopAi . . . tread carefully. That was uncalled for.
From https://www.devuan.org/get-devuan :
desktop-live: Explore the default Xfce desktop before installing. Then install easily and quickly from the live session using the refractainstaller. Firmware is installed but can easily be removed.
AI will destroy humanity and we are doomed, rest in piss
No! Don't blame AI!! It is stupid humans who always have and always will find creative ways to destroy even their own species.
It looks like xorg-server comes directly from Debian so you shouldn't have to do anything special if you sources.list is in order.
Welcome to Devuan. Please refer to the Install Guide which includes screenshots of the installer options. #17 lists the options available for DE or WM.
Perhaps they are wanting to see if anyone will notice on the way to deprecating these functions entirely? Maybe you could file a bug with the kernel folks . . .
Has anybody done this before? And I mean done it to the point that's actually usable for day-to-day use, not just a proof-of-concept "see I can do it" deal.
Yes . . . this Devuan derivative. It has been around for many years. May not work on you device though . . .
Note that to get to Daedalus from Beowulf you have to go through Chimaera first and that might be a good place to hang for a year or two . . .
@greenjeans . . . It's looking like there won't be any more Devuan custom themes for you to bitch about . . . so you can do a happy dance . . . ![]()
Sigh . . . that wasn't the point either . . .
@quickfur . . . That wasn't the point. The point was that some of the packages in that list are not connected to Devuan's "magic" to work around systemd.
If it is all possible, isolate the other drive by disconnecting it physically for a good measure.
I have done this more than once. It 'just works' to have only one drive available for the install.
You can also use uuid magic to sort it . . .
I have never installed pulseaudio. Always used apulse and alsa. There were some audio issues with jitsi early on. And folks still have intermittent issues. A lot depends on your hardware. KISS works best.
This is a welcome project. I did use Mate a long time ago but at some point wandered off to Xfce. If I were more adventurous, I'd give it a spin. But in time Xfce might just provide enough 'incentive' to push me back to Mate! Do keep us posted . . .
These packages in DelTomix's list above have been forked not for technical reasons relating to Debian's systemd 'lock-in' but to customize the iconic Devuan desktop themes. There may also be other packages not tied to systemd:
Package: clearlooks-phenix-cinnabar-theme
Package: clearlooks-phenix-darkpurpy-theme
Package: clearlooks-phenix-deepsea-theme
Package: clearlooks-phenix-lightpurpy-theme
Package: clearlooks-phenix-sapphire-theme
Amprolla is the package that works the magic of integrating Debian repos with Devuan. I posted this link in the other thread but guess you missed it:
https://git.devuan.org/devuan/amprolla3
Here is a summary of amprolla from the Devuan Conference.
Now THERE'S an answer. Thanks DelTomix! ![]()
Welcome to Devuan, quickfir . . .
You can start by having a look at these links:

https://git.devuan.org/explore/repos?ta … e&q=devuan
You might want to check if the other Devuan themes misbehave in a similar way. I only played with the colors in the theme(s) except for a few times that I needed help from the XFCE folks. Oh and yes . . . the background for all the themes has been a light version of the dominant color.
@Geoff 42 . . . Most of the Daedalus theming was done 2 years ago and only tested on xfce and my setup which is chimaera. I have no idea how it interacts with claws. Over the years, csd and gtk3 have raised havoc with the clearlooks-phenix theme. Since I am now out of the theming business after almost 10 years, someone will either have to step up to take on that task or users will have to live with what Debian provides and/or the old Devuan themes which will still be available in the repos and on Devuan's git store.
