Maybe Devuan should take up the mantle and publish more info on these things online.
Or maybe that is something that quickfur might want to explore and curate?
@andyp67 . . . you are ballooning the forum logs with personal ramblings that have no place in a technical forum. Please find a more appropriate venue to do that . . .
Good grief! A full quote post in response to clear instructions NOT TO FULL QUOTE POST. What am I missing here?
@steve_v . . . Thank you for trying to bring order and focus to the chaos . . .
You can install LibreOffice Writer without installing all of LibreOffice. Cuts down on the bloat . . .
/me notes how annoying it is to have to keep blocking gifs
one question. which init has the xfce iso live version?
Same as the installer isos sysvinit.
and is there also a kde iso live version?
No. But you can download and add KDE after installation.
Hahaha! Thanks for the stats!! Just shows how accurate our perceptions are . . . Carry on with making us smile!
What's with all the wife jokes . . . ? How about some husband jokes for balance?
I do not think libsystemd0 is harmful
Yes, it is just an annoyance but removing it would be wasted effort for no benefit. That's why it may still present in Devuan.
but I seem to be unable to have it, as holding it when installed would not allow installing these packages (well, dummy-elogind allowed some of them, but not all).
Unless something has changed, there is no need to have libsystemd0 present in Devuan.
There are extensive discussions on the DNG mail list. The takeaway (if I understand it correctly) is that unless we have a huge influx of devs to fork the necessary packages, usrmerge will be unavoidable. Read and draw your own conclusions.
This this forum post titled Why are systemd files present in Devuan? will help you understand that those files that are bothering you are harmless and necessary. Note that I posted that statement but did not write it. Take care . . .
@stopAi . . . tread carefully. That was uncalled for.
From https://www.devuan.org/get-devuan :
desktop-live: Explore the default Xfce desktop before installing. Then install easily and quickly from the live session using the refractainstaller. Firmware is installed but can easily be removed.
AI will destroy humanity and we are doomed, rest in piss
No! Don't blame AI!! It is stupid humans who always have and always will find creative ways to destroy even their own species.
It looks like xorg-server comes directly from Debian so you shouldn't have to do anything special if you sources.list is in order.
Welcome to Devuan. Please refer to the Install Guide which includes screenshots of the installer options. #17 lists the options available for DE or WM.
Perhaps they are wanting to see if anyone will notice on the way to deprecating these functions entirely? Maybe you could file a bug with the kernel folks . . .
Has anybody done this before? And I mean done it to the point that's actually usable for day-to-day use, not just a proof-of-concept "see I can do it" deal.
Yes . . . this Devuan derivative. It has been around for many years. May not work on you device though . . .
Note that to get to Daedalus from Beowulf you have to go through Chimaera first and that might be a good place to hang for a year or two . . .
@greenjeans . . . It's looking like there won't be any more Devuan custom themes for you to bitch about . . . so you can do a happy dance . . . ![]()
Sigh . . . that wasn't the point either . . .
@quickfur . . . That wasn't the point. The point was that some of the packages in that list are not connected to Devuan's "magic" to work around systemd.
If it is all possible, isolate the other drive by disconnecting it physically for a good measure.
I have done this more than once. It 'just works' to have only one drive available for the install.
You can also use uuid magic to sort it . . .
