So before the Spaced thread got locked...

Ralph posted this:

Yet I don't see any hands raised for taking on the moderator responsibility; just the odd whining by rando's.

I'll throw my hat in the ring. My dance card is pretty full these days, but being a Devuan-user and a member of this forum for almost ten years now I feel a responsibility to help out as I always have. I have some qualifications having been a moderator on many forums and currently a moderator on the other forum mentioned in this thread. I don't feel much need to moderate most things as linux people are for the most part good folks, the only ban I have made recently was a spammer who registered and then proceeded to shotgun-post multiple links to commercial interests, some of them VERY un-savory. As far as contributions and loyalty towards Devuan, I think my record speaks for itself.

The few caveats and concerns I have are as follows:

1. I would like to see the time extended for a user to edit a post, frequently there are helpful threads that need to be updated due to new info, and it just makes sense for the original poster to edit the original post as opposed to making a whole new post with the new info.

2. I would like to propose that the timeout for auto-logout be extended somewhat, as there are many times users have tried to post some longer posts. especially in various "how-to" sections, and tried to submit only to be hit with that timeout.

3. I would like to see the quote-post function restored, eliminating it did not stop folks from quoting posts, but it did stop attributions for most people other than our friend Altoid who graciously goes the extra mile. I agree that people should use discretion, and try to only quote relevant snippets of longer posts.

4. I would like to see the hostility that's been displayed recently for folks who are making spins of Devuan and working on other projects cease. If we are to attract new developers this forum is usually the first point of contact. You attract more folks by being kindly and inviting than you do by berating them for working on their own projects rather than helping Devuan directly. Let's make a clear path for folks to contribute whether their contributions are accepted or not in the end.

I am here to help, Devuan calls for aid and Rohan will answer. wink

I'm sure my opinion won't count in this matter but I would certainly vote for greenjeans as moderator. He has always given me the impression of being level-headed and non-judgmental, exactly the kind of qualities a good moderator should have.

Hopefully a new moderator would mean that an older one without these qualities will be exonerated from his duties to enjoy his well earned retirement.

Sorry. That's not going to happen.
