I only update once in every couple months, but seems like every time I do, I have to re-write sources.list, time before last I had to use some weird mirror, this last time (a couple weeks ago) I had to change again or it wouldn't work, so I went back to the recommended list from https://www.devuan.org/os/packages.html which was:
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-updates main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-security main
And that worked fine. But today it won't connect for some reason, so had to abort.
Having some intermittent issues with the repo? No biggie i'm patient but was just curious as this seems to happen somewhat frequently for me.

Got it to work today using different mirror:
deb http://gnlug.org/pub/devuan/merged daedalus main
deb http://gnlug.org/pub/devuan/merged daedalus-updates main
deb http://gnlug.org/pub/devuan/merged daedalus-security main
I would mark it solved, but still doesn't answer my original question.

It is waiting for someone to adopt and rewrite it for python3. Forum members please take note and take ACTION!

Well, big question here if anybody can answer, what does it take to become a mirror? Like how much storage do you need, bandwidth/speed, is it within the realm of somebody doing it from a home-based server? I have no data caps on my home service, it runs 300 mbps up and down (though i'm only using 100 as all my machines and router are old with 10/100 NICs). Probably over my pay grade and not enough speed, but i'd give it a go at least.
Alternately I was thinking, it might be a cool thing my ISP could do, they have been amazing and they already do a good bit of community service projects, i'd be happy to approach them and ask about it, seems like something they could do without much effort, and i'd be happy to volunteer to help them with it if I could.

Hello:
... no connman, network manager.
I see.
... miss wicd.
Yes, me too.
I found it to be the best of all the network applications back in the time and I still think it is, by a good measure.

I once contacted all (9) active members of the 'Wicd-devel' team to ask about what their plans were or to at least (instead of posting ambiguities) make it clear that the project was abandoned/dead in the water and ask for someone to take over but to no avail. My emails were not well received so I gave up.
Other people here have tried to get it up and running but something happened on the way there and they gave up/were not able to do much, don't know why.

Best,
A.

That's cool, that's something I can do easily enough.
But that's for being a mirror for distro releases yes? I was talking about being a mirror for the repo, which I imagine is a whole larger kettle of fish.

Sorry for the confusion . . . try this:

@golinux
The information is good, thank you.
Are you aware though, firefox would not want to download the text file over security risks? (http)
You can still see the content in a firefox-tab.
Have a good day, greetings.

How much bandwidth is required to be a distro release mirror? And what's the average mirror size in terms of disk space?
I have some spare bandwidth I could donate for this purpose. As long as it doesn't use up too much bandwidth and/or disk space. I'm expecting the disk space requirements are pretty reasonable, since most of the packages would be redirected to the Debian repos, right?

I set up a package mirror recently, and after a month++ it's sailing with these metrics
Network bandwith: 60GB/month (est)
Disk usage: 23 G
CPU load (avg/peak): 2% / 4% (at 4 traffic peak times per day)
Admin time (est): averaging to <10 min/day
As you say, it only holds Devuan packages and it redirect to deb.debian.org for all Debian packages (as per the standard mirroring instructions).
The mirror is a Single-CPU VPS (qemu) with 1G RAM allotment by a "Tier 3" company.

That sounds pretty reasonable! Let me confirm that the bandwidth requirements (+ my own usage) are within my limits, and I should be able to set up a mirror.

Nice, even this old machine i'm working on can handle that load, actually I have an old desktop I could re-purpose and leave online to both mirror releases and the repo.
May be a while as i'm still making house repairs while weather is nice, but when the snow hits i'll have plenty time.

I installed wicd from chimaera (or beowulf ?) on my laptop running Daedalus and plasma/kde5. It seems more reliable finding connection and doesen't drop out as much, giving the impression that my wireless chip is flaky. I only use it when travelling of emergency, but last time I used it, was flawless.

Well, not that wicd plays any role whatsoever in the transmission; it's all wpa_supplicant for link level encryption/decryption and the handling the connection logic via its wpa_action.

Just my 2cents worth, Ralph... I know it was off-topic...
I just wanted to assure users that we may install some favourite older software with little inconveniences.

Yes, wicd did/does provide a good and fairly distinct GUI for configuring the network devices and before it was abandoned due to the python2 -> python3 change it was still only in the beginning of its path to enshittification, so quite a good option if one feels a need for a GUI.
