[SOLVED] Falkon browser not up-to-date

Hello, I installed Devuan Daedalus and use falkon as internet browser.
Unfortunately, the current version of falkon in Daedalus is out of date.
I get a corresponding warning more and more when I visit websites.
The attempt to install a more recent version from Debian fails due to missing dependencies.
What can I do?

Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Falkon browser not up-to-date

Maybe I would have to switch to testing, but I thought that internet browsers are always kept up to date in the stable release.
What would you do?

Re: [SOLVED] Falkon browser not up-to-date

Falkon is a KDE browser. If it does not depend on systemd (and I don't think so it does, haven't checked*), the version in Daedalus is the same as in Debian Stable/Bookworm.
Firefox ESR which I use also is labelled outdated by various websites. I am ignoring these messages.

* Edith: You may check yourself if you look at the list of forbidden packages, have a look at the link on top of this page to Devuan.org.

Yes indeed, the version of Falkon in Daedalus is the same as in Debian Stable/Bookworm.
I also don't think Falkon depends on systemd.

But Daedalus came out a year ago.
It cannot be that an internet browser that can be installed via the normal repos is already outdated.
What should be in one or two years?
It's not just the messages, e.g. t-online email can no longer be used properly.

P.S.: I cannot find this list of forbidden packages.

Re: [SOLVED] Falkon browser not up-to-date

Thanks.
Falkon is not on the list.

How could I download the Falkon package from Excalipur?
At Debian you can access the repos in the internet browser.
Is there a similar package search here?

Re: [SOLVED] Falkon browser not up-to-date

We don't fork falkon, so to download it in a web browser, you would need to go to packages.debian.org and search for falkon in the testing suite (trixie?). I have no idea if that version will work on daedalus.

As I wrote in my first post:

Re: [SOLVED] Falkon browser not up-to-date

The easy way to tell if a package in devuan is forked or not is to see if "devuan" is in the version. With very few exceptions, anything without that is a pure debian package and isn't even stored on our servers. So the version in excalibur gets pulled from trixie on debian's servers when you ask for it. Sorry I missed it in your first post. Now I can tell you that I know it won't work.

Re: [SOLVED] Falkon browser not up-to-date

I've known for several years now that some of the web browsers packaged for Debian Stable are not kept up to date, and are therefore not safe to use. Firefox ESR and (to a lesser extent) Chromium are the only two that I know are definitely kept up to date.

I would install Falkon on Devuan using Flatpak. You can see here that there's a package for it on Flathub:

https://flathub.org/apps/org.kde.falkon

Another possible way to install Falkon is via the Nix package manager. I'm sure that there are other ways to install an up-to-date Falkon on Devuan, but those two are the ones I would focus on.

Freespoke is a new search engine that respects user privacy and does not engage in censorship.
Another one is called Luxxle.
