Is Pulseaudio showing "Dummy Output"? I'm having the same issue on a Core 2 Duo machine I have set up with Devuan.
EDIT: Re-read it, forget about the above

@tux . . . Thanks for the edit. Do you have apulse installed? Needed when pulseaudio is removed. Not sure of the details.
Offline

drivers not support, driver is on ALSA list of unsupported drivers.
Please provide a link to support this statement.
My research indicates both cards should have drivers:
https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id … -1043-1d8d
https://linux-hardware.org/?id=pci:1002-aae0-1002-aae0
And you do have an analogue output device listed in the aplay output so clearly something has a driver.
Please post the full output of
speaker-test # in the alsa-utils packageHas the sound ever worked on this machine? Are you sure it's not broken?
EDIT: try the firmware-misc-nonfree, firmware-sof-signed and firmware-intel-sound packages.
EDIT2: or use the isenkram package to determine any needed firmware.

My old Intel Haswell needed an .asoundrc file to sort the 2 chips on the board. Maybe that's an option? Or more likely this is just noise and apologies for that . . .

I asked for the full output from that command. I need to see the full error message, if there is one.

Nope:

Fix /etc/apt/sources.list and update then try those packages again. If your sources are incomplete then *many* other packages might be missing.

Thank you. That output indicates that the software side of things is working. A driver is assigned and the output is correct.
So are you sure the speakers actually work? When was the last time they produced sound? Do they work with any other live ISO?

Desktop default OS sound always worked and sound for virtualbox antix and other os hopping tryouts.
After installing Devuan no sound.
Backported ALSA to get latest. Might Daedalus upgrade fix? blacklist driver?

I had a problem with sound, I switched over from a VGA monitor to a HDMI without built in speakers, but when I went back to the VGA monitor, everything was working fine - I don't think pulseaudio takes that fact into consideration, because I had it set to analogue stereo, which should have worked via the audio out socket.

I resorted to .asoundrc to stop hdmi being loaded (on my desktop PC). Reliable...
My old Intel Haswell needed an .asoundrc file to sort the 2 chips on the board. Maybe that's an option? Or more likely this is just noise and apologies for that . . .

Yes I do. I'll put it here but be warned there are many modules that rely/depend on hdmi.
I stopped using the blacklist when I was trying to get BT sound reliably configured.
here is a copy...
/home/glenn/My_system/backup-sys-default/etc/blacklist.conf

# see also /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-compat
blacklist edac_mce_amd

# For some bridges both intel-agp and i82875p_edac are loaded. If i82875p_edac
# is loaded first it will grab the device. Then intel-agp doesn't work.
# Therefore we disable automatic loading of 82875p_edac. (Bug 213840)
blacklist i82875p_edac

I did this instead so the snd-hda* dependants satisfied
