devuan-ascii.list

Several times during some of the comments in installing/upgrading to ascii - there is a reference
to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/devuan-ascii.list.
I only find a 'devuan.list' there and its contents are: (after an upgrade)
# autogenerated by devuan-baseconf
# decomment following lines to  enable the developers devuan repository
#deb http://packages.devuan.org/devuan ascii main
#deb-src http://packages.devuan.org/devuan ascii main
'
'
this may explain how 'packages' got imported into Synaptic when I did an ASCII upgrade from
Jessie1.0.0 (installer iso 64bit)
'
I can make a long post - its about 3 pages of stenographers notepad sheets if someone wants it.
Tomorrow, as I am going to work now.

Re: devuan-ascii.list

You can add repositories to files that are in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/. The files can be named anything you want, as long as they end with ".list".  The ".d" directories in /etc are a standard place to put local configs, so they don't get clobbered by upgades to the corresponding packages.

The ascii lines that you copied won't pull in anything, because they are commented. If you managed to upgrade to ascii, then you must have added some ascii lines to sources.list or another file in sources.list.d.

Three pages of notes would probably be too much, but if you could highlight some of the problems you ran into, it might help others.

Thanks.

Re: devuan-ascii.list

Same thing like before, there is nothing at /etc/apt/sources.list.d/

everything is at sources.list:

#

# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 1.0 _Jessie_ - Official Release Candidate amd64 C$

deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 1.0 _Jessie_ - Official Release Candidate amd64 CD $

deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged/ jessie main non-free contrib
deb-src http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged/ jessie main non-free contrib

# jessie-security, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged/ jessie-security main contrib non-free
deb-src http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged/ jessie-security main contrib non-$

# jessie-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged/ jessie-updates main contrib non-f$

Re: devuan-ascii.list

created new post  "ASCII-install notes"
'
@fsmithred - my focus of this original post is that there is no 'devuan-ascii.list'
golinux refers to it in post "How to update to ascii?" comment #7 - caused @keos many posts
'
the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/devuan.list file does contain ascii information

The information I posted for keos can be found on the website at the bottom of this page.

Could you please format your  "ASCII-install notes"?  As presented it might as well be chicken droppings thrown at a wall to my eye.  In fact all of your posts could use some layout love.

Re: devuan-ascii.list

okay, I'll give it a shot.
I had been asked to make a short (condensed list)
Thanks for the 'go ahead'

Re: devuan-ascii.list

Thanks. Your notes are welcome.   Presentation just makes the information more accessible to the eye/brain.
