We're now 800 strong here!

Subject says it all.  This little experiment has become quite a resource for Devuan and its users.  A huge 'thank you' to everyone who contributes knowledge and friendliness to our community.  On to 900 and then . . .

800 whats?
Active users?

Maybe I'm too far away to understand this without delay...

...or just undercaffeinated...

@yeti . . . 800 registered users but about 250 (less than 1/3) have never posted.  Those who have participated have created a helpful, welcoming environment.

Re: We're now 800 strong here!

I'm sure there are a ton of other users of Devuan out there too. I've been following you guys and testing/releasing how-to's for years now! Finally getting around to the forums and hoping to help out more. I was ecstatic about the SysV and Debian/Devuan news as well so that helped fuel the getting off my rear and onto the forums...

Welcome!  Both Roger Leigh and Eric Raymond have been hanging around lately.  And Bruce Perens posts occasionally on the DNG mail list.  That's a vote of confidence for what we're doing.

Re: We're now 800 strong here!

So I am one of those who registered here a month ago, but haven't posted yet.  But there is a really good reason for that... I haven't needed any help!
Short history is I installed RedHat5.2 on my home computer in 1999 and have been running Linux since.  Have been through several different distros over the years, from Mandrake to Kubuntu to Mint.  XFCE has been my DE for 10 years now.  I thought Mint would be my last distro, but like many others, I think it has gotten lost.  Because it is a downstream of Ubuntu, systemd became the autocratic choice.  I put up with the ensuing problems for a few years, through upgrades and even getting a new computer.

I have been running Devuan for over a month now, and all is great.  I keep my machine running 24/7, but I don't fear rebooting it like I did with systemd at the helm.  And those persistent pesky problems are gone.  So in short - THANK YOU to the developers of Devuan for providing a very valuable and (unfortunately) very necessary Linux distribution.

Re: We're now 800 strong here!

Come one guys. Some of us Lurk here, but for professional or other business tactic reasons rarely post.  There are waaay more people aware of Devuan as systemd becomes a huge security flaw for all professional Linux Devops people.

I'm currently working with 17 different Devuan Desktop Openbox customized installs and one Devuan Ascii server  running my websites via nginx (still in development) as well as using Beowulf in three desktop custom webdesign distros.

If any one has any interest in Developer, security, Linux-Image (GNU kernel) and web design customized Devuan respins, please ping me and I'll share my package lists.

Re: We're now 800 strong here!

I tend to uninstall popcon and exim4 (as noted by Jaromil in a Devuan tech talk).  Why do I need an email server on my secure desktop distro? No I uninstall anything like that, so there are probably waaay more Devuan users than is noted in this chart, IMHO.

Welcome!  Nice that you finally decided to take a leap and say hi.  How about sharing some of your Devuan-related work here or here.  Or perhaps applying some of your talents towards improving Devuan at the source.

Re: We're now 800 strong here!

Checking in after many months.  I stopped posting here because I was made to feel that my contributions were wrong or not good enough. hmm I was just trying to help...

I hope the Devuan project survives and Beowulf is released soon.

You can always just share your experience or participate in other discussions. I'm glad to participate in the Devuan community, even if I don't have that much to say. I do come here with my problems, and I try to make myself available to help other people.

Re: We're now 800 strong here!

I was an early adopter, but preferred my lightweight system that I had been using beforehand, but come back & test the waters every now & again.

I now have ASCII 2.1 on 3 machines since yesterday, but had to re register on the forum, as it wouldn't let me in with my old credentials, (from Oct 15)..
