I didn't go to a posh school.
I am veteran International Press Corps (writer and photographer.)

After about 25 years of working very hard in Linux, Red Hat 6, Debian, Devuan, I consider myself to be an amateur expert in very many aspects.

I ran Devuan Live, and practically immediately, was quite, to use perhaps the harshest word in the english language; disappointed.

Where is the virtual console shift, alt f1 f6.
What if I want to run shutdown -h now, or killall, or process stop start, or tail -f /var/log/messages, or zcat a man file, or ifup in root and startx in user; etc etc etc etc etc etc.

Vi is colourised (sharp arguments, (not my Orwellian British English! but the computer matter,) and, subsequently again open the file, opens down the page where I was before. Surely somebody working on a whopping file in vi, knows some advanced usage skills.

If I gave another two minutes of my time, what else would I discover.

We come to Devuan, and Devuan is supposed to supremely represent, to be supreme ultimate, we come for the protocol, not for monkeying around wasting stealing our time.

Not a bad statement off the cuff in 2 minutes.

I believe the correct term is 'virtual console shifting.'
This is perhaps my main gripe.

But it's not good enough.
Devuan is supposed to be 'vanilla.'

Note that <alt>+F{whatever} only works from a console screen; <ctrl> is needed as well if used from a graphical desktop.

VT switching in Devuan has always worked as expected for me.

... and what this aspect is concerned Devuan = Debian, both behave the same.

But it's not good enough, this is Devuan, the live should mirror the regular storage device install, and it doesn't.
The vi editor has been 'optimised' 'enhanced;' and what else.
Try colourised when you're a partially sighted old man like me, because of chemical warfare damage in Bosnia.

Do you know the key sequence to reset your BIOS blindfolded, that's presumbing you're not using a monkey mouse driven BIOS.

If you had used the netinstall iso and chosen the "expert install" option you would have had more control of what was installed. The netinstall uses a slightly modified version of the Debian installer. The "live" iso uses the "refractainstaller" which only copies the files of a default Devuan desktop installation to your installation media.

You can read descriptions of the available Devuan installation media here.

Administrator golinux do you think I don't do expert install, the 'live' does not NOT copy a default and as I have clearly stated I'm not talking desktop.
The chimaera netinstall FAILS because libsemanage-common is corrupted.
Daedalus succeeds because libsemanage is version 2.
refractasnapshot-base FAILS in testing, may have something to do with the piece of crap zstd compression program, courtesy of Facebook.

I do clean install routinely, retrieve a fresh iso, don't use your personal archive from the past, try it, see what happens, even retrieve Beowulf.

Let me get one thing clear, I'm a civilian.
Previously I worked at the main IBM facility in the U.K. IPC certificated to mend computers, under a 40X microscope, class A hardware, zero down time, Five Eyes countries, military, medical, air-traffic control.
Also licensed to fabricate some Sony components when stores were out of stock, mending civil servants piece of crap laptops.
One of my grandfathers use to be an instrument maker with Tim Berners Lee's parents.
My grandad used to get infant Tim ice cream and push him on the swings in the park.
I was employed by Mitac Synnex to do silicon technology and nano technology R&D with the best two Chinese doctors (out of the top 400,) on the planet, exiles from the 'square' event, this job required ink on paper at the highest echelons of power in China. Band of brothers.
Was because of my innate mechanical engineering ancestry background, when you're down to atomic level you're back to boulders and levers, whereas the doc's folks were growing rice.
