setnet.sh script depreciated?

I've noticed the setnet.sh script has depreciated in beowulf. which came standard in ASCII
However is there a reason it was not carried over? (Is it a potential security issue keeping WPA keys in a wpa_supplicant conf file?)
It still seems to work if you put all the files in the right spot, slightly off topic but thought this thread was a good place to mention.

KatolaZ has moved from Linux to BSD so that script is now unmaintained.  Someone else is free to pick it up if they like.  It may also be perfectly fine to use it in Beowulf.  Hopefully someone can advise on that.

You can install 0.4 in beowulf using the deb package.

Re: setnet.sh script depreciated?

If I repackaged it and got permission from the author, Could it be re-added to the repos?
I could repackage it, If I manage to improve it I'll include an update. I haven't found any bugs in version 4 from my personal use.
I have been using it in Beowulf for quite some time now. No issues to be noted. It works in Chimaera as well.
Also I tried to audit the temp file created in /tmp.
I wasn't able to snag credentials for networks as root. But I am wondering if it is possible.

So far I feel comfortable using it still.
I can maintain it in the sense porting it to new devuan releases. What is required for a package to be added to official devuan repos?
I never really considered repackaging it due to refracta utils being so handy I don't have to re-install it ever. However, I might be able to re-bundle it with one less build dependency for other devuan users to make it easier to obtain.

Re: setnet.sh script depreciated?

Good idea. The next steps towards that would be to

  1. get the software held as a project at the Devuan Git Store, https://git.devuan.org, and

  2. enjoy and digest https://git.devuan.org/devuan/documenta … aintainers

The old devuan/setnet project is still there but it hasn't been touched for some 3 years and it sure needs a new, active maintainer. I would suggest you discuss details with LeePen over IRC at #devuan-dev on libera.chat.
