Did you try reducing the saturation on your screen a bit?

Do you have grayscale or rgb antialiasing when none order selected?

All the options are rgb.  But setting it to "none" avoids hints of color here.

I have never seen that on my screen but I do see some bleeding on screenshots with strong contrasting colors.  In Settings > Appearance > Fonts, I have Enable anti-aliasing checked, Hinting: slight and Sub-pixel order none.  Default font is set to Open Sans Semibold.  But then I have a really nice Dell IPS monitor.  Maybe reducing the saturation on your screen would help and reduce brightness a bit - I work at 70%.

If you actually used Devuan or contributed anything substantial my ears might perk up because then you'd have a point of reference from which to critique. I think you just come here when you're bored or having a bad day .

Footnote: cynwulf and I have a long and mostly amicable history so I know who I am chiding.  wink

Have you tried adjusting the acceleration/sensitivity of your mouse in Mouse and Touchpad from the main Applications menu?

Have you seen this thread?  There is a solution. Can't remember whether it's in that thread or elsewhere on this forum.  Sorry . . . not willing to go treasure hunting atm.  wink

Isn't there consolekit2.  There has been recent discussion. and also there are consolekit related packages in beowulf:
libpolkit-backend-1-0-consolekit
libpolkit-gobject-1-0-consolekit
etc.

You should probably be on the ML.

@Miyo . . . maybe you can put together a gimp team to keep the older version compatible with newer Devuan releases.  I do not use gimp often - still do a lot of work on PS7 LOLOL!!!!  But I do use it for specific tasks on occasion - like converting png to xpm - and would not be happy to see those functions disappear.

#2111 Re: Devuan » As an extensive user, GIMP 2.10.x is unusable. 2.8.x is great though! » 2019-02-16 20:32:55

This is not good news.  It might be easy enough to just keep an older version in the repos if the dependencies are compatible.  If not, the task of  sorting things out would fall to impacted users because the Devuan devs have their hands full and just don't have time to fix applications in user-space that take a wrong turn.  Would you be willing to maintain and package Gimp 2.8.x for beowulf and future Devuan releases?

#2112 Re: News & Announcements » Reporting bugs in devuan » 2019-02-13 23:04:01

Did you not see this in KatolaZ post above yours?

Also, the only way to submit bug reports to bugs.devuan.org is via email, so you need a working email account.

Try this method.

Maybe the last unavoidable systemd packages can be renamed to fake-$originalname_*.deb to make clear that they are harmless? Via provides $originalname dependices could be satisfied.

Would that possibly reduce the iterating questions about systemd pieces still present in Devuan?

Sadly, there are just not enough hands on deck to do the repackaging and long term maintainence.  Any volunteers out there?

Yes, I did first thing.  That is why I deleted the (other) systemd folders and files; they should not have mattered to the os.  However when the systemd folder in /run got recreated on reboot, I got kind of concerned.  Moreso, when I could not chattr +i that empty folder to immutable.  I know I can just reinstall and pay more attention, but there is little learning in that. wink

I wish we had a workshop of magic elves to remove those unnecessary systemd files but alas . . .

Thanks for all your trouble for me.

Best regards,

No problem.  No trouble.  smile  Really nice to see you back!

Here's an update . . . I FINALLY found a darker color that worked to hilight selected items.  It's only taken about 4 months.  LOLOL!  I revisited that option after the lighter version morphed a bit and I was unable to find an icon color that worked in the file manager as well as the desktop.  That's because color is fickle and can be perceived quite differently depending what is nearby.   It can drive one to madness . . . no kidding.  big_smile

jaromil is one of the VUA who decided to fork Devuan in 2014 and CEO of dyne.org the non-profit that sponsors Devuan.  He is a well-known public figure in the EU in many capacities.

This fairly recent video summarizes a few of the projects that dyne is working on.

IIUC, stable releases get bug fixes and security updates but not newer software.  Have you checked the backports repos?  That's where you'll find newer software built against stable.

gksu has been deprecated as you noted.  Use pkexec.  Discussion here.  I can now launch from panel and to custom actions. Bit of a pain though . . .

Also a recent update overwrote my working policykit backend.  Make sure the debian one hasn't slipped in.
