any chance of getting around it?
or just copy sda4 to sda3 then delete sda4 and expand sda3 if you don't have a backup medium. But you really should have a backup anyway.
thank you, hoas!
that was my idea, though, I was not sure which directories can be skipped.
btw, skipping some of the directories is just to save some time because the current installation is 8,5GB.
Hello everybody!
Several months ago I wanted to test Devuan and installed it on a small partition (sda4).
I liked and want to keep it but the partition is full.
So now I want to move Devuan to a bigger partiton (sda3).
I have already installed it on the bigger partition.
In order to skip all the manual adjustments would it be enough to copy (rsync) /etc, /usr, /home directories?
If that is not enough what else needs to be done?
Thank you in advance!
p.s. Regarding the packages since I don't have copies of all of them in /var/cache/apt/archives/
I guess I will have to manually install them, right?
Thank you!
Was not sure about dependencies and compatibility but your word was enough as a guarantee.
p.s. Works fine.
Logged into my Arch and tested both browsers 'vimb' and 'luakit' with 'fb' and youtube' and there is no such issue. There is no running processes left after closing either browser.
Sinse I am posting this from my Arch I decided to check 'webkit' version for comparison. (Just in case.)
~ # Qs webkit2gtk
local/webkit2gtk 2.34.3-1
Web content engine for GTK
~ # Qs luakit
local/luakit 2.3-1
Fast, small, webkit based browser framework extensible by Lua
Before logging into Arch I tried Artix's browser 'epiphany' (via usb) which is also based on 'webkit'. It did not have such issue either. All processes stopped running once the browser was closed.
Hello everybody!
I would like to suggest one package that is available for 'ubuntu' and 'mxlinux' to be adopted by Devuan and made available in the repos.
'foliate' - e-book reader with many features including highlighting and annotations, nice gui, reads most popular formats
Thank you for the excellent distro!
p.s. if this is not appropriate or not allowed, please delete the post.
that's kind of disturbing... anyway, thank you for sharing!
back to the original issue in regard to that new info...
I tested both 'luakit' and 'vimb' with 'fb' and 'youtube' separately and both leave 'webkit' processes running after closing the browsers - the difference is that 'fb' leaves two processes while 'youtube' leaves one process running... I hope someone knowledgeable will figure out how to address this issue cause right now I have to manually kill those processes every time I close the browser...
Hello everybody!
Got some freezes lately while using either 'facebook' or 'youtube'. Because 'moc' is usually runng I noticed it starts with chopping the sound and then the system freezes. Because I alternate 'luakit' and 'vimb' I wasn't sure which browser to blame for this. But today 'moc' wasn't playing and I got only 'vimb' open on 'fb' - one window on 'fb' and one window on another website. So I closed 'vimb' I checked the 'task-manager' and 'htop'. Both showed 'webkit process' still running.
Interestingly enough, after I opened 'vimb' to post here those processes are still running yet 'vimb' is working fine while 'moc' is playing.
How to proceed to prevent this from happening again?
@Head_on_a_Stick
'apt full-upgrade' works.

Hello everybody!
a couple of days ago changed repos from 'chimaera' to 'daedalus'
now 'apt upgrade' gives
# apt upgrade
Reading package lists... Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libwacom9 : Depends: libwacom-common (= 2.2.0-1) but 1.8-2 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
is this ok cause 'apt-get upgrade' works without warnings or issues?
well, it did not give any error messages so I thought there must be something wrong with the installation.
reinstalled everything and made sure all the engines appear in the engine window.
now it works.
p.s. this is the second or third time an app works differently in Devuan from the way I am used to it in Arch. probably my expectations are playing tricks to me.

Hello everybody!
Installed 'scid' plus 'phalanx' and 'toga' but still get 'phalanx or toga not found' message when try to play a tactical game.
Any ideas what else is missing?
Thank you in advance!
tried both suggestions on that page and with both get same output
$ vim newfile
vim newfile $
it also started adding the current folder after the 'user@domain' so all that was seen was actually the 'user@domain' which was not very helpful.
that's with 'xfce4-terminal'.
with 'terminator' it did not work at all.
so I copied the '.bashrc' from Arch and added
trap 'echo -ne "\033]2;$(history 1 | sed "s/^[ ]*[0-9]*[ ]*//g")\007"' DEBUG
it's not as good as I was expecting it to be but it's better.
Have just finished 'General's daughter', Nelson DeMille.
Excellent military detective novel.
Lots of suspects, lots of good dialog, plus some very clever observations from the two main characters regarding both professional and personal relationships.
"It’s a problem, you know, Paul, dealing with stupid people. You project your own intelligence and rationality onto a person who is a complete idiot, and he lets you down."
There is a movie based on the book starring Travolta but it does not match the book's quality.
p.s. it's for 18+ readers because of the details of the private life of the victim.
Hello everybody!
When I use 'vim' with 'xfce4-terminal' the name of the opened file doesn't appear in the title bar. Instead it shows either 'Untitled' or ' user@domain'.
When I use vim with 'terminator' it shows '/usr/bin/vim' but not the file's name.
Is it possible to show opened file name in both?
I already have 'replace initial title' activated in both.
p.s. Even when I open either 'terminator' or 'xfce4-terminal' as 'root' it doesn't show 'root@domain' but still 'user@domain'.
What is missing here?
Hello everybody!
'viber' asks for authentication via scanning qr code upon every reboot.
I don't have such problem on Arch.
How to make it permanent?
Hello everybody!
I use 'moc' to play radio streams. I have playlist with 'http' streams that works fine.
Recently one of the streams stopped working. I got the new stream address from their site but it's 'https' and moc cannot play it.
I installed 'cmus' cause in the past (on Arch Linux) it was working with streams that 'moc' cannot play.
To my surprise 'cmus' (on Devuan) couldn't play it either.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
p.s. For the record, I can play 'https' streams with 'mpv'.
Excellent article, written 10 years ago, very relevant
Your brain on pseudoscience: the rise of popular neurobollocks
The human brain, it is said, is the most complex object in the known universe. That a part of it “lights up” on an fMRI scan does not mean the rest is inactive; nor is it obvious what any such lighting-up indicates; nor is it straightforward to infer general lessons about life from experiments conducted under highly artificial conditions. Nor do we have the faintest clue about the biggest mystery of all – how does a lump of wet grey matter produce the conscious experience you are having right now, reading this paragraph? How come the brain gives rise to the mind? No one knows.
So, instead, here is a recipe for writing a hit popular brain book. You start each chapter with a pat anecdote about an individual’s professional or entrepreneurial success, or narrow escape from peril. You then mine the neuroscientific research for an apparently relevant specific result and narrate the experiment, perhaps interviewing the scientist involved and describing his hair. You then climax in a fit of premature extrapolation, inferring from the scientific result a calming bromide about what it is to function optimally as a modern human being. Voilà, a laboratory-sanctioned Big Idea in digestible narrative form. This is what the psychologist Christopher Chabris has named the “story-study-lesson” model, perhaps first perfected by one Malcolm Gladwell. A series of these threesomes may be packaged into a book, and then resold again and again as a stand-up act on the wonderfully lucrative corporate lecture circuit.
