I don't check .xsession-errors often and when I did a few days ago, it had grown to over 32mb. This is unacceptable. Is it possible to set a size limit or delete every x number of days?
Here are some of the offenders filling it up:
[31798:22:1026/153257.134355:ERROR:webrtc_voice_engine.cc(2678)] Attempting to get contributing sources for SSRC:507546440 which doesn't exist.
This is the worst offender by the tens of thousands. I thought it might be from jitsi but I just connected and there was no error recorded. Maybe it's triggered by incoming data from other users?
Then I poked YouTube. No action on the file.
Maybe incoming data is triggering it?
Then there is this pattern of long lists with different % of whatever . . . A search draws a blank on this one . . .

Other entries are repeated warnings and errors for GTK*, dbus*, xfce4*, theme parsing, application errors etc. I am surprised it works at all!
Please share your knowledge and favorite remedies . . .
Recently, FF has changed how to view PDF files from an internet source. Instead of opening in atril as directed and expected, they were actually being permanently downloaded to various locations in my home directory. ![]()
Thanks to DelTomix, there is a way to revert to the previous behavior by altering these 5 files in about:config:
- browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel - set to false
- browser.download.useDownloadDir - set to false
- services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.download.useDownloadDir - set to false (I don't sync)
- browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir - set to true
- browser.download.alwaysOpenPanel - set to false
Additionally, you might also want to double check the FF Settings options. It seems that FF would prefer that you open those documents in your browser rather than in your local environment and that 'local' option is getting harder to find. Sneaky!
I'll punt to DelTomix to fill in additional details.
/me doesn't often have to block an avatar . . .
That's just asking for frustration and pain . . .
. . . ensured I included the nonfree-firmware) . . .
If that is a typo, it needs to be corrected. If that is what you actually tried to install, try non-free-firmware instead.
@Charin795 . . . done. You could probably have edited the post yourself . . .
Perhaps this thread will be helpful?
It is not on the banned packages list so we must do something creative to transform it.
UnixMan1230 . . . What exactly do you mean by "systemd source". Are you talking about files like these?
From the Beowulf release notes. It's always a good idea to read them. ![]()
Changes in su
- The behavior of su has changed. Use 'su -' to get root's path or use
the full path to commands if you use only 'su'.
- There are several ways to get the old behavior. The easiest is to
edit /etc/default/su to add the line:ALWAYS_SET_PATH yes

Of course not but that's not where most of your posts should be. At least it seemed like most this morning were not help-related.
The person responsible for systemd now works for Microsoft after he wormed systemd into Linux. The Debian vote was a sham:

Reminder from https://www.devuan.org/os/packages lest you want a 'Franken-devuan'
Devuan package repositories are exclusive. Other repositories, including Debian, Ubuntu, Mint etc, should NOT be used directly.
@WDstudios . . . Please keep in mind that the main purpose of dev1galaxy is TECHNICAL assistance. Please keep nonsense posts like the ones greeting me this morning to a minimum. They just bloat our logs for no useful purpose. Please try to restrain yourself . . .
Necro-posting is a bit silly. Especially since HoaS has long since left the building . . .
/me yawns . . .
And here I was hoping you might want to jump in and take over the Devuan theming! LOL! Sorry . . . my theming days are over and if they weren't I would still only do tasks specifically related to Devuan not unrelated "wish-list" stuff. ![]()
Indeed, it is a special pond in which we all swim at Devuan. Welcome to our world!
As to the theming . . . all the past themes should be available in the Devuan repository but it is uncertain how much longer they will be viable. I am getting lots of xsession-errors because the gtk3 elements are being deprecated/replaced. I have been responsible for all the theming since the fork but someone else will need to take on that task going forward or we'll just recycle the old ones.
Welcome!
Send them to this page . . . https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=1925
Well done, zephyr! Congrats!!
Welcome to Devuan but please don't double post. Your duplicate in Off-topic has been deleted. Thanks.
I have added it to the beta staging branch. You can see it here:
https://beta.devuan.org/os/devuan-distros
I'll let someone else move it to the published site.
Thanks again for your contribution! See you next time . . .
Great! I have already added you to the derivatives list on this forum. Will add you to the list on WWW after b'fast. Cheers!
@grafiksinc . . .
I have been looking through the Peppermint site and collected a few points to include with your listing which I hope aren't too far off the mark. Feel free to make corrections and/or suggestions. Should the calamares installer be mentioned?
"Peppermint OS Devuan comes with an xfce desktop and essential core packages needed to run a system out of the box. This gives users an opportunity to build a system that best fits their needs. The Devuan build offers 64 and 32 bit versions as well as a choice of SysVinit (default), Runit or OpenRC."
Thanks!
Excellent! Expanding available options is always a good thing! Do let us know if you want to be added to the Devuan derivatives list.

Exhale!Hello there!
I am sure golinux wouldn't mind, because I was just doing some ghost writing...
xD O.o
zapper . . . iirc I have corrected you before on the assumption that HoaS wrote that text. He did not. That post was edited and the original text replaced by an administrator. This was the complete edited post:
