before starting a new thread(and potentially requesting it to be a frontpage sticky) i wanted to clarify something
(mostly to @fsmithred given admin/elevated-status/mod/etc. but @all as well)
if i understand this correctly there may be millions of live-cd/dvd/usb/etc distros existing out there globally.......
that.....
bork the booting of an uncertain number of machines owned/used by an unknown number of unknowing victims?
seems like the makings of a good commentary on arstechnic, hacker news, reddit, slashdot, etc...
hmmm.....
i'll be the first to admit that i was unaware that many/most/who_knows? of currently circulating live-distros(cd/dvd/usb/etc), claiming to be completely safe to boot up on any machine without changing _anything_ on that physical computer, instead...
bork it?
i do not think that the vast majority of casual live-distro users(past/present/future) are aware of this potential issue.
in other words, i guess i really want to be wrong about this. hoping anywho.
edited to turn it down a couple notches...squirrels and coffee you know...

EasyOS is by Barry Kauler(original Puppy Linux creator but has since passed the steering levers on to others) but IMHHO it is better

From a technical perspective, Void Linux is another great Linux distribution, but if you seek out Void Linux because you want a Linux distribution without systemd, you need to know that the Void Linux project is not hostile towards systemd. They actually used to have systemd, but removed it only because systemd doesn't support Musl. However, from what I understand, there are no future plans of going back to systemd.

note: to access the "Launcher" tab, right-click on the desktop icon and select "Properties"
(naturally only "launchers" have that tab in addition to the normal "General" "Emblems" and "Permissions" tabs)
starting in Daedalus the launcher has two additional settings under "Security:"
a checkbox for "Allow this file to run as a .desktop file"
and a checkbox for "Set this file as trusted"
my Daedalus desktop-live usb has three .desktop launchers "Install Devuan" "SMALLER FONTS" and "LARGER FONTS" and all three required the box to be checkmarked/selected for "Set this file as trusted" to operate as they had previously on Chimaera and Beowulf

If I learned anything, it was the following:
GNU/Linux is mainly for people who dislike Microsoft and corporate Unix.
GNU/Linux + systemd is mainly for people who loathe Microsoft but miss Windows.
macOS is for people who dislike Windows and are OK with throwing money at problems.
The BSDs are for people who actually like Unix.
I’m not hardcore enough for Plan 9, and that’s probably OK.

That is why any sensitive data should *always* be encrypted before being stored on any system you do not *fully* control. And *really* sensitive data should not even leave your systems, even encrypted, without a *good* reason.
