#28 Re: News & Announcements » Devuan 2024 financial report » 2025-02-25 13:59:34

@stopAI: I think it will be used to pay the devs. They deserve it.

I agree with this idea. That would be really right.

#29 Re: News & Announcements » Devuan 2024 financial report » 2025-02-24 15:18:53

Hello.
I would like to ask (out of curiosity). The financial report states that 54,008.30 euros were donated (total amount), and 4,680.55 euros were spent. And where will the remaining amount be used? I ask because nothing is clear from this report.

I wonder jwm and pekwm are the ones that dont follow the standard.

It is because jwm and pekwm is a very simple wm. It is like constructor, a.k.a. do it by yourself. By the way, you can try  menumaker  https://menumaker.sourceforge.net/

#31 Re: DIY » Announcement of the OpenMATE desktop environment » 2025-02-21 12:47:01

Making a desktop called gnome/2 isn't a problem - but once you try distributing it, your problems will begin. You may be outside of the US but your methods of distribution may not be.

I agree. It's better to come up with a name for your project and not have to deal with those COC lovers from Gnome...

Thank you for the answer.

And I think the most important thing is that software bugs are found and fixed. And as for these bugs, they have always been and will always be, because the Linux Kernel is a complex piece of software.

By the way, thanks for your project. It looks very promising.

#34 Re: Installation » Got wayland on gnome working(AMDGPU only, nvidia has problems) » 2025-02-11 13:33:23

Hello.

For this purpose you can use Gnome auto-starting mechanism.

Who's contributing to these buggy Linux/Debian kernels and why?

It would be good to hear from you, what problems are you having with the Debian (Devuan) kernel? Why are they buggy?

#36 Re: Off-topic » Thoughts on Pipewire » 2025-01-28 14:38:16

I don't know why everyone is attacking pipewire...personally it works for me without any problems. For auto starting pipewire, you can even not use any autostart scripts, but just use the DE autostart mechanism...works very well.

perhaps somebody with the initials L.P. ?

Perhaps somebody with the initials L.T. ?

#38 Re: Devuan Derivatives » GNUinOS - Libre » 2025-01-03 13:55:22

agreed. so where to go from here?

The solution is to contact the developer and wait for his explanation. And to be honest, such projects, although they seem attractive, do not inspire confidence in me...

#39 Re: Devuan Derivatives » GNUinOS - Libre » 2025-01-03 12:46:15

Having both privacy and a libre distro will be complicated.

Libre distros usually have security problems since they refuse to built the kernel with the microcode update feature (which is GPL). But the microcode isn't (but the CPU runs microcode anyways, just a older in secure version) Without updates microcode lots of CPUs have severely security problems.

Security is nessesary for privacy.

2. The interior of QT apps does not respect the system theme and it's colors. In VLC the menubar and all dropdowns and tooltips are glaring white which looks like crap in my otherwise gray-blue-black theme.

In newest version of Plasma these problems are solved.

#41 Re: Devuan » Xfce 4.20 released in Dec 15,2024 » 2024-12-27 14:02:28

any ideas from your end?

Hello.
Check FLTK.

#42 Re: Devuan » Xfce 4.20 released in Dec 15,2024 » 2024-12-27 14:01:13

Really wish stuff like VLC would stop insisting on QT.

The future of the graphical environment is QT. As for GTK, its future is unclear...

#43 Re: News & Announcements » Merry Christmas » 2024-12-27 13:58:33

Currently, Christmas is a commercialized capitalist holiday. I have no doubt that most people do not think about the meaning of this holiday....

#44 Re: Devuan » Xfce 4.20 released in Dec 15,2024 » 2024-12-26 13:27:50

Really sad...

Hello.
Just use lxqt. LXQT uses significantly less computer resources than xfce4. And it doesn't use gtk3 nonsense.

Yes, Devuan is a very good project. Long live Devuan!

#48 Re: Off-topic » systemd v257 requires the merging of /bin and /sbin » 2024-11-15 16:53:19

The biggest projects, including the Linux kernel, are now bankrolled, developed and staffed by corporations such as Microsoft, Alphabet, IBM/Red Hat, Meta and Amazon, to name but a few. Hence the arrogance - i.e. if you're not a corporation, or someone in the pay of one, your views simply don't matter - so you run along and develop your own OS.

Or just stop using Linux and use FreeBSD.

#49 Re: Installation » minimal X install » 2024-11-15 16:50:54

Hello.
You need seat and session management daemon.
Just install elogind.

sudo apt install --no-install-recommends elogind

Hello.
If a person wants to remain anonymous on the Internet (as far as it is possible on the Internet), is it not better to use Tor Browser? As far as I know this browser deletes the browsing data automatically after closing it.
