It is on my wishlist for decades.

Good to read.

What would it take to for Devuan to be a stand-alone distro that doesn't require anything from Debian at all?

Hundreds of highly active developers.

I hope there will be more cooperation between Debian and Devuan.
Otherwise too many things are solved by independent teams simultaneously.
That's a waste of energy.

#279 Re: Installation » Soon a fix for SSHFS and FUSE broken in the Devuan Stable Unstable ? » 2018-10-24 16:48:02

$ sshfs yeti@sdf.org: ~/mnt ; ls -l ~/mnt ; fusermount -u ~/mnt
yeti@sdf.org's password:
total 12
lrwxr-x--- 1 24249 500 19 Aug 17  2015 gopher -> /ftp/pub/users/yeti
lrwx------ 1 24249 500 14 Jun 15 19:03 html -> /www/nz/y/yeti
-rw------- 1 24249 500 37 Aug 18  2015 xtermtitle

Tested using ASCII/armhf on Cubietruck.
I don't get it.
What is broken?
I installed sshfs just some seconds before this test.
Maybe I'm still too undercaffeinated...

$ lsb_release -sir
Debian

$ apt download ffmpeg xserver-common
Get:1 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian stretch/main amd64 xserver-common all 2:1.19.2-1+deb9u2 [2059 kB]
Get:2 http://security.debian.org/debian-security stretch/updates/main amd64 ffmpeg amd64 7:3.2.12-1~deb9u1 [1532 kB]
Fetched 3591 kB in 2s (1458 kB/s)
$ ls -1
ffmpeg_7%3a3.2.12-1~deb9u1_amd64.deb
xserver-common_2%3a1.19.2-1+deb9u2_all.deb

It does not screw up Debian.
So probably its not a problem in Devuan too.

I see a V-H in my logs, so your configuration probably is correct.

Lots of IRCers stay connected to the chat(s) even while they are away or otherwise distracted. So sometimes a channel looks full while answers come with a huge delay... that's somehow normal... sometimes...

Give it a 2nd try with a bit more of patience...

Where will you be when Microsoft starts charging for github service?

My stuff is at GitLab because their conditions are better. So I have no private stuff to move away from GitHub. I will be forced to keep an account on GitHub by lots of projects for which I need to be able to comment on issues or PRs. :-(

GitLab already cuddles with Google and when they get more important, there might come some ugly changes too. Always include human's greed as one of the major factors into your projections!

In the long run, I will find a way to manage my stuff completely at home, maybe by by using "naked" Git without all the add-ons GitHub/GitLab have put atop of it or by switching to Fossil which is small and beautiful and most importantly does neither need PHP nor MYSQL which both reliably have proven over many years to be persistent security nightmares.

Are there other alternatives I am overlooking?
Some real P2P alternatives?

Systemd itself is not a mess.

Maybe.

I expect systemd and non-systemd OSes to diverge over the years, so that we even will have an own name for the new breed. An then all will be ok. Unixlike OSes will stay being what we used to love in pre systemd days and systemd based OSes will have an own digitope not interferring with the unix universe.

All current aggressions are side effects of the divorce like situation we have now while the community splits into systemd lovers and unix lovers.

Give it some time... peace will return... breathe... ommmmmmPtimism!!!
