Unfortunately, Xfce now pulls it in. I think it's a recommends though so could be removed with a little work.

Just reading the guide on for how to update from ASCII to Beowulf (https://beta.devuan.org/os/documentatio … owulf.html) I note that the text seems to imply that this would work to upgrade from Jessie too.
Yes, it is possible to upgrade from Jessie! Those pages were just updated yesterday. I'll be getting that straightened out on the Install page later today. beta website is still a WIP.

@golinux I assumed that sources.list would be read by Synaptic. I was wrong.
You will want to update synaptic every time you want to browse or install etc. so it can find the newest packages. You also need to do that in a terminal.
@rolfie So that's the way to specify a repository when installing. And backports makes sense now in the context of packages existing in testing, but not stable.
The -t is only needed because backports has some kind of magic pinning so everything from there doesn't get installed. I comment backports in my sources list and only uncomment when I want to install something specific.

Currently it can be disabled in about:config. But since I'm still on jessie, it's not a problem for me . . . yet. Cloudflare is a very-bad-idea (tm). There is a thread about this on the DNG mail list if you're interested.

Good that you found the culprit. It really isn't a good idea to have deb-multimedia in your sources. Especially uncommented. That could put you in a world of hurt.
One other thing . . . country codes aren't really available on Devuan. Besides that, there is no US mirror! The round robin at deb.devuan.org is the best option.
I shall lean to creating a git.

Not an expert but I wonder how it's pulled into the Beowulf installation that I am running. Probably a manual install I did loads it up in the package management...?
I wonder what is in your sources.list.
golinux, can you help with the team in porting veromix in future releases?
The Devuan team's job is to provide Debian without a dependency on systemd. Our job is not to port everyone's favorite app to Devuan. Users are welcome to do that themselves and share it on Devuan's git if they have an itch.

auto.mirror has been deprecated for a long time. Also Country Codes are not currently available for Devuan. Please try deb.devuan.org to see if that fixes things.

Yes, Devuan needs long-term commitment from its users if it is going to survive. That's not someone else's job. Every user should do their part.

Never EVER use Debian repos directly. That could put you in a world of hurt. Devuan package repositories are exclusive. Other repositories, including Debian, Ubuntu, Mint etc, should NOT be used directly.
Also Devuan recommends using the codename (jessie, ascii, beowulf, ceres) rather than the suite (oldstable, stable, testing, unstable) in /etc/apt/sources.list entries. Please go to Devuan Release Information for more details.
https://pkginfo.devuan.org/ is an excellent resource to discover what is available in the Devuan repos. Also https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/bannedpackages.txt for what will break Devuan.

pkgmaster is the source for all the mirrors. If it is used in sources.list, it will put on an extra load and could slow down the frequent mirror updates

There is no US mirror and County Codes (CC) are currently deprecated in Devuan. Use the round-robin pool of repositories at “deb.devuan.org” via http not https. The Beowulf installer has corrected this confusion.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at Distrowatch which did not include Budgie as a desktop, but then again Distrowatch is hardly definitive.
I had never heard of budgie till your post and I've been working on Devuan since the fork.
I found two ISOs that look promising, netinst and minimal. Is the latter an Openbox installation? I'd prefer to not install a complex desktop I will never use. Openbox is just enough to get around.

Note that there is an openbox theme in the clearlooks-phenix-darkpurpy and -cinnabar to coordinate with the release's default color theme.

OMG! That is from 5 years ago when we were just starting to create the signature Devuan graphics. That thread was concluded elsewhere because it was getting too long to load properly. You might consider that Devuan offers desktop images in these sizes to accommodate all screen sizes:
wide-large 2560 x 1600
wide-small 1280 x 800
narrow-large 2560 x 1920
narrow-small 1280 x 960

In Xfce Jessie the option is "anti-aliasing". I also use "slight" hinting and find it helps to use a semibold font like Open Sans.
