Did you upgrade ascii before changing your sources list to beowulf?
This is a comment not an answer to your question(s). I use synaptic most of the time. I also usually start from scratch with a new install so I don't have many upgrades under my belt. I know you have your reasons but I would never trust a dist upgrade to synaptic. I would do it in a terminal. Just my .02.
I hope it works out for you . . .
Thanks for doing this.
Did you send him a link to this post? IIRC, runit will not be officially supported until the Beowulf point release.
Please read the Beowulf Release Notes.
You should be ranting at Debian.
That's quite a rant but has no useful description of what you did to get to beowulf. Did you read the Release Notes and follow the installation documentation?
I cannot find how to post on this forum? I can reply but how do I post something myself?
Go to any forum topic for example https://dev1galaxy.org/viewforum.php?id=10
You'll see the forum title and under that pagination on the left and the option to post a new topic on the right:

Let's see a copy of your sources.list
Not really for dummies but very informative.
Just for the record. I have no mobile devices and all my devices are wired. I have not yet found a need for wifi which simplifies my life greatly (after it's hooked up).
Be positive: the OP wants to help.
I'm not so sure about that. But sometimes best just to ignore such rants an move on. The OP has the right to relinquish as much freedom as (s)he chooses.
@bimon . . . Thank you
Did you follow this migration procedure?
Why are systemd files present in Devuan?
That was before elongind replaced libsystemd. There shouldn't be any libsystemd0 in beowulf.
This problem is fixed in Chimaera and will be also in the Beowulf point release (coming soon) iirc
@pcalvert . . . Thank you for that rational and lucid explanation. Looks like you have contributed an import tool for Debianistas to regain their init freedom. Well done!!
Devuan Beowulf 3.0.0 stable release
Dear Friends and Software Freedom Lovers,
Devuan Developers are delighted to announce the release of Devuan Beowulf 3.0.0 as the project's new stable release. This is the result of many months of painstaking work by the Team and detailed testing by the wider Devuan community.

Anything in cli is a lot of work for me. I saw his post and glazed over. I'm really not that much of a techie. My "talents" lie elsewhere. That's why I was asking for some comparative Cliff Notes.
I wouldn't have posted this if I didn't have great respect for pcalvert. It's just that comparative discussion would be useful to me (so I don't have to figure it out myself . . . which is, in reality, a non-starter . . . LOL!).
Thought some of you intrepid d1gers might find this post from pcalvert, a long time Debian user, interesting or perhaps amusing?
Although written in the style of a tutorial, this document is not intended to be an exhaustive tutorial. Instead, the purpose of this document is to explain how I set up a Debian Buster system with SysVinit as PID 1 so that experienced GNU/Linux users can duplicate what I did. In addition, the system created by following this How-to should be considered experimental and not suitable for production use (until proven otherwise).
Seems like a lot of work to end up pretty much were the forks landed years ago but to each his/her own . . . .
I'd be interested in seeing some perceptive comments from the d1g rebels!
That information is all over devuan channels and documentation for those who care to rtfm.
Hi,
Just to say, in the mirror list to download devuan there is one with a "strange" name...
The name is : devuan.unetresgrossebite.com
https://twitter.com/_adriend_/status/12 … 9476157443
In french this mean "a big dick"....
Someone should probably remove that...
Good grief. We are well aware of that and it has been reported more than once. That mirror has been serving Devuan for many years and hopefully will for many more to come.
Try https://BETA.devuan.org/os/packages for beowulf
OMG someone pushed it to master! And there are things that still need to be done there!!
@larsH . . . Thank you for the feedback!
@larsH . . . Did you choose the "expert" install option? That's where most of the options are available.
