Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

I have been unable to find an iso as described in the thread title.  The only isos I have found are for the amd architecture.

I want to download direct from Devuan as the nearest mirror to me has an incomprehensible directory.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

486 UEFI? No way. There is no 486 CPU supported by any bios with uefi.

Please show:

inxi -Fz

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

doubtful that a 486 system would have enough ram for _any_ Devuan.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

Kernels are not built for i486 machines these days, no distro will work on it, (unless it specifically says so) - better look for another O/S to use on it.

Maybe try FreeDOS.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

I thought the 486 require a 16-bit BIOS to initialize hardware and boot. Is UEFI even possible with a 486?

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

The only isos I have found are for the amd architecture.

arch: x86_64

amd64 is for any x86_64, Intel or AMD. The port is named that because AMD invented 64-bit x86 while intel was still floundering about with Itanic.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

Thanks.  It seems, then, that the iso I need is devuan_excalibur_6.1.1_amd64_desktop-live.iso.

On reflection, Cinnamon seems like the better choice of DE. KDE6 is a mess.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

If you use the 'Desktop' installer .iso, you should be able to install your choice of desktop to install, directly to your drive.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

Thanks.  I do not know what SSID to provide.  The only examples my search has revealed would not apply to a home network.  Can anyone give me an example?  I have to use a wireless network.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

If you have a home wifi, the SSID is usually on it somewhere, maybe look underneath....

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

Thanks.  Underneath what?  The wifi modem is attached to the ceiling and is managed remotely.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

SSID is simply the "name" of the network you want to connect to. The installer has no "scan" facility, so the simplest answer is probably to check with some device that does.
It'll be either whatever you or the network admin set it to, or manufacturer default, usually found on a sticker on the AP.

You will of course also need the password or key.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

I have tried several times to install.  The installer did not follow the steps outlined on https://www.devuan.org/os/documentation … all-devuan.  I was not offered the option to choose a DE.

I accepted my lot and installed as best I could.  When I tried to boot, I had to use the command initramfs.  I could find no option for that which enabled me to proceed.  I ended up using 'exit' which resulted in kernel panic and a line with a line space on it so I had to shut down the computer.

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

I suggested using the Desktop .iso, not the Live .iso - the 'live' can only install XFCE, whilst the 'desktop' gives you the choice.

(I have found that using 'live' sometimes needs to be connected to the internet to be able to install the Grub boot loader.)

Thanks.  I used the Desktop.iso from this page : https://files.devuan.org/devuan_excalibur/desktop-live/

Re: Iso to install latest Devuan on UEFI

You used the desktop-LIVE iso that camtaf suggest you not use. Try one of the installer isos - either the netinstall or desktop iso found here: https://files.devuan.org/devuan_excalib … aller-iso/

The desktop iso has all the packages you need in case you want to install something without a network connection. The netinstall iso only has the base system and needs network to install other stuff. Both of those will use the network to pull packages from the repo when you install. Both of those use the debian-installer (for devuan) and will let you choose a different desktop environment.
