Excalibur - is it really stable?

I have tried to install excalibur on a new computer of my neighbour, who had used daedalus.

1. Download of the iso on DVD. Installing excalibur everything seemed to be fine, the disc was finally ejected, but too early. But no way to start with the new system, the installer hanged. Trying to force the reboot I got a non running system. I found a description of the problem, the announcing that the problem would be solved with version 6.0.1.

So I went this way: daedalus - usrmerge - excalibur

2. Excalibur was running, but I found problems with software packages:

Evolution: When trying to write a new mail clicking on the "new"-button, evolution crashes. Trying to reinstall it was without success. I found a message, that the reason might be systemd, the program would run under the corresponding verson of excalibur at debian.

lprng: Using a generic PS-printer without ppd and using cups forces borders, when printing from okular. When printing a line of 10 cm the length will be reduced to about 9cm. Using lprng and the command-line makes printing easy, and the measures of a triangle are correct.

But no chance to use lprng with apsfilter under excalibur.

3. Back to daedalus, no problems at all (okay, I lost some hours of work).

So I ask whether it was right to make excalibur stable. Of course the system is running, you can update from daedalus without any problem. But I think "stable" also concerns the software packages, and it would be a good idea to test the installation of an iso before publishing it.

To Evolution: I am using Evolution on Excalibur w/o any issues. My setup is an upgrade from Daedalus on sysvinit, LightDM and Cinnamon.

I have installed Excalibur from the netinstall into a VM and on real HW via a Ventoy stick, works fine.

Quite a few of the issues in Devuan came from a shoddy release from Debian:

Go to the bottom of that page and click on "previous" several times to get to the list of out standing bugs at release time. I could not find a more direct way to get to that information. They really buried it!
