Re: xorg-server 21.1.9 - Security fix release

Huh, nice to see Xorg is still being worked on upstream to some extent, in spite of some of the Devs working on wayland.

Re: xorg-server 21.1.9 - Security fix release

Wayland is much like systemd, in the sense that its being forced down people's throats when the better thing to do would be to send it packing. Bullies tend to force stuff down peoples' throats.

Systemd
dbus
wayland
pulseaudio
pipewire
avahi
networkmanager
java
etc...

When something depends on a library connected to the above yet would work otherwise if the devs weren't so stupid and made it a forced dependency despite not needing it, that is a sign that you are dealing with a bully trying to manipulate and control you into using what they want you to use when they should just get lost instead.

wink

No, it is not.

forced down people's throats

No one is forcing you to use it. And if it was decided by a transnational company like Red Hat, that's another matter.

Re: xorg-server 21.1.9 - Security fix release

It is like systemd in that its being pushed hard and its buggy supposedly too.

As for the more problematic parts of systemd, you are correct that wayland isn't like systemd in those ways.

Still, its mega buggy and for this reason, I will avoid it as long as possible.

If you don't think its being pushed hard, try to remove wayland and its libraries completely from devuan and see how that goes. Hint, it will remove way too much!

I have been using wayland for over a year on Artix linux with s6 init. I've also been using Wayland since the release of Devuan Daedalus. I can say only one thing - if you use open source video card drivers, there will be no problems. Everything works fine. And I'll repeat it again - Wayland is independent of systemd....
