After installing Devuan as a guest on virtualbox I can not get "share" to work.
Thanks.

Not a Devuan problem. What exactly do you want to achieve, and what have you done as preparation?

Installed Devuan 3.0 on Virtualbox 6.1.26
Made guest additions
Mouse and Video working well
"shares" not working. Not showing up
They show up on other guests
Thanks

You have to define the shared folder in the VBox Manager and then you need to mount it within Devuan. Refer to VBox manual.

It is configured in Virtualbox under guest (Devuan 3.0) / shared folders.
As I said this works on other guest systems.

I've just installed devuan from netinstall on Vbox. All share folders work fine:
in guest:
apt-get install build-essential module-assistant
m-a prepare
In my case headers were installed on this step
Attached guset cd, then
mount /media/cdrom
sh /media/cdrom/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
lsmod | grep vboxguest
if everything is ok, then
adduser <vm_guest_user_name> vboxsf
Done

What version of Devuan are you running on what version of Virtualbox.
I did actually what you laid out. No go. The version of Devuan I installed is Devuan beowulf 3.0 323mb.

I installed chimaera on 6.1.26 r145957 virtualbox.

and declared path to shared f. in Vbox itself with automount option. No changes in guest's fstab

The version of Devuan I installed is Devuan beowulf 3.0 323mb.
Just curious why not beowulf 3.1.1. Of course with a full upgrade you would eventually get there.

Thanks for your help. devadmin's procedure worked. It must have been the netinstall.
My reasoning for 3.0 was to get and older release to verify special software on.
