Dear dev1ers . . .
The Devuan ASCII 2.1 point release has begun. The installer isos,
desktop-live and minimal-live isos are currently available for
download here:
http://files.devuan.org/devuan_ascii/
Other images will be uploaded as they are ready.- The option to choose openrc is more prominent and no longer requires
an Expert install. You can't miss it.- If you would like to select an alternate bootloader (lilo) or
exclude non-free firmware, you must select one of the Expert install
options.- The recommended default mirror is now deb.devuan.org. If you would
like to use a country code mirror, please check
https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/mirror_list.txt to see if there is one
suitable for your needs. There is more information in the Release Notes:
http://files.devuan.org/devuan_ascii/Release_notes.txtSource: https://lists.dyne.org/lurker/message/2 β¦ ef.en.html
Once the point release is completed, we can focus on putting final touches on Beowulf.

That's good news!
Do you know if something has changed or is planned to be changed about the way how the embedded images are made (especially w.r.t. to using unpackaged kernels and bootloaders)?

That would best be discussed on #devuan-arm where the arm devs hang out.

Thank You for making this update available. That's some significant patch-age.
Lots of folks may not notice (other than the large amount of updates they're about to receive) but Since I monkey around a lot with some 'extra' hardware and VMs I appreciate the new isos.
2.1 iso running happily in QEMU now... 'All packages are up to date'.

I installed from the new iso (netinst) in order to check out the openrc option. It installed without issue, and openrc is working fine!

This point release includes all updates since the 2.0.0 release.

Thanks a lot!

Thank you! I appreciate all the effort the real devuaners do. I'm just a moocher.

I have a question about the package search page.
I'm sure when I was using it recently, that I could search and find a udeb I was looking for, but now it doesn't. Is this the case? Also would it be possible to put a link on the page so a package can be downloaded.

I was looking for choose-init, which doesn't appear in the list anymore.

Thanks goes to devs! Nice works, guys!
What economists call over-production is but a production that is above the purchasing power of the worker, who is reduced to poverty by capital and state.

As a relative newcomer to Devuan I have a question. Having received the notice about the 2.1 release, I note that many packages I have installed are at later versions than the ones listed in the announcement. I have updated regularly, and do so at least once a week; does that mean that I in fact have the 2.1 version of Devuan?
If that is the case, might I suggest that the file /etc/devuan_version be updated to indicate the current level of the system.
To conclude on a lighter note, typing this response prompts another question. Why does the Galaxy Forum spell checker query the word "Devuan" -- I like it!
